This was the highlight of the trip. We had 7 people on one heli. Yes it was expensive$550+ a person. It was worth it. Listen to the instructions the people who schedule the trip give you. It will make sense when your in the heli. We did the two hour tour and went over the lava and volcanoes into Hilo. Then we toured the coast back. Amazing!
It's expensive. Let's get that out of the way. We debated about this aspect but in the end did it and I am so verybgrayefyl. The sights are amazing, you can get a recording of your flight, and you see parts of the island you can't see any other way. Our pilot was great. Be serious about not wearing white. It contributes to glare. If you can afford it, do it.
Although not inexpensive, this is a must-do when on the Big Island. The pilot/tour guide was excellent at showing and explaining things we overflew including the fresh lava flow and the active caldero. Another party on our flight were locals and he made special effort to allow them to find their home outside Hilo. Highly recommended.
We took our boys, ages 13 and 16, on the Big Island Spectacular, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! If you are already splurging on the helicopter trip, you MUST go all the way, and book the optional waterfall landing!!!!!!!!!!!! The helicopter lands in front of a huge waterfall, and you are surrounded by jungle on all sides, very "Jurassic Park", very secluded. Our pilot was Greg, he was wonderful, very personable, and knowledgable... we certainly tested him with lots of questions. Buy the flash drive of your trip, the cameras on the helicopter, both in and outside, capture the entire trip, and all of our facial expressions and comments (they edit it before giving you the final copy). Watching it is like taking the trip all over again, and they put it to music, the same music that is piped in over our headphones in flight. This was the highlight of our vacation, we will remember this forever, mahalo, Blue Hawaiian!
The 2 hours flight is a MUST DO on Big Island. It surpassed my expectations by far! Spectacular view into the lava lake of Kilauea and Pu'u 'O'o Crater. Amazing close ups of the lush, green valleys and incredibly high waterfalls up in the north of the island. Super friendly and knowledgable pilot Toshi. Carefully selected music added to the majesty of the sights. We were super lucky with the weather. Clouds seem to often change the itinerary a bit. But in any case: DO IT :-)
We kept seeing these helicopters go by our hotel balcony and decided that the best way to see the island was from one of them. Blue Hawaii has the best, quietest, most comfortable choppers. Pilot was excellent and the tour superb. If we wanted to go closer he took us in. Good value at $230 including transport to and from the airport. If you buy a usb stick record of the flight make sure it has got sound on it, mine didn't and it's a long way to go back.
One of the most enjoyable activities on Oahu. Blue Hawaian provide a top class super professional experience.
We went on an early morning flight to the volcano national park it was great scenery. Our pilot Dale made sure we seen as much of the lava as possible. The only thing was our side of the chopper didn't get to see the coast line we only got to view it past the other passengers.
Friendly pilot with very professional staff. Very nice comfortable helicopter just like the pic shows! Would do it again and recommend to all.
My wife & I Teresea flew this island with Julie our pilot...and two other couples. The view of the island was Spectacular. Julie was cool as a cucumber at the helm & showed us a great perspective of the wonderful landscape with a explanation of each major sight. No worries if you book...you will never forget the experience.
I have been on a few flights in recent years and this one had some good things going for it. Most flights are short due to operating costs but this one was almost an hour. It goes over all the interesting features and geography of Kauai. Miguel was our pilot and he consistently spoke to each person on the flight by name. That was a really nice personal touch. I felt engaged, it was personal. Good job all around and of course the views are excellent.
We had an AMAZING TIME. This is our second trip with blue Hawaiian helicopters. It is outstanding. I was not sure what to expect. It's like sitting on your sofa with an incredible view. We flew over waterfalls ,into the canyon and over knife edge ridges. We were shown and told about historic Hawaiian sites. We saw where many movies have been filmed. I could have stayed up their all day. Go up with Blue Hawaiian helicopters if you get the chance. You'll love it! There is no reason to be nervous at all. It's really cool.
The views are breathtaking, but for me the whole thing was worth it just for the helicopter ride. Lots of fun. The musical choices were sort of campy, though.
Greg O was an excellent pilot and made me feel very safe (I was very nervous about the flight!). We saw the lava flow into the ocean which was a bucket list experience! Equally as amazing was the trip into the canyon to see the waterfalls. Beautiful! Great trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour today with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. Prompt pickup at Hilton Hawaiian Village and a useful safety briefing before the flight. Julie was knowledgable and friendly as our pilot. This is well worth your time.
