Barrett was an awesome pilot! NO roller coaster butterflies on this flight. What a view. Local man with a dream job show visitors his homeland and loving it! Get the Video! ($41) We have watched and showed others. We enjoy the banter and music during the flight.
Highly recommend the Blue Hawaiian Mokihana Helicoptor tour. ours was just the air part (we didn't do the Heaven and Earth). It was 45 minutes of amazing views. Our pilot flew for the Army in Afghanistan and has been with Blue Hawaiian for 3 years. He grew up on Kauai and even pointed out where his high school was and showed where a previous hurricane had hit the island. He flew into the valleys of the peaks and gave amazing narration. I can't explain how breathtaking the views are. We did this excursion on Friday, and that Friday evening we were sailing back to Honolulu. We flew above the Na Pali coast on Friday in the helicopter and then cruised by the Na Pali coast during sunset as we headed back to Honolulu. It was great to have such wonderful views from the air and from the ocean. the Helipad was about 3 miles away, and then you do a safety video before you board. Also, they recheck your weight to make sure they place everyone evenly in the helicopters. Also note that it holds 7 people, 3 in front and 4 in the back. I got a window seat and my husband was next to me. We both got good pictures, but I certainly got better ones. Wear darker clothing to as not to get a glare on the windows! You can see my legs (I wore shorts) in many of the photos which I deleted, as I got so many great ones.
If you can only do one activity on Kauai, it should be a helicopter tour, and I highly recommend Blue Hawaiian! I will never forget our tour. It was beyond amazing. Blue Hawaiian is located right at the airport, so you don't need to take a shuttle there like other helicopter companies we saw during our drives around Kauai, which is very convenient. You're seated based on your weight but they seat couples together. When you check in, you stand on an X on the floor, which is apparently where the scale is. No one sees the actual number other than the person checking you in. When making your reservation, request either a front seat or at least a seat on the right ride for the best views. They can't guarantee a spot but we asked to be in either of those spots and we were in the back on the right side, so they seem to take your request into consideration. My husband was in the middle right seat (I was by the window) and he said the view was still amazing. We had an 11:30 a.m. flight and though it had rained about an hour before, it cleared up for our flight. The number of waterfalls we saw were mind-blowing, and flying right into the crater of Mount Waialeale was amazing. It rained when we flew in there (not surprising since it's one of the wrest eat places on earth!) but it didn't obscure the views. They also record each flight, including shots from inside the copter and a recording of any questions passengers ask, and then you can buy a copy of it. However, our video didn't record properly, so we couldn't get a video of our flight, which was a huge bummer. I would have already rewatched it so many times! But it was not the end of the world because I took a ton of photos. They ask you to wear dark colors to prevent glare and they hand out black T-shirts to anyone who doesn't wear dark colors. I had glare in some photos still, but the majority of my shots were amazing. Also, at the end of your flight, they will take your photo in front of the helicopter with your camera, which is a great keepsake! This tour was the highlight of our trip and we did a lot of other amazing things on Kauai, so that says a lot!
My husband and my 20 yr old and 15 yr old went on the helicopter ride. They said it was a must do to see the island. Absolutely beautiful. I stayed behind with my 21 month old boy at the beach/resort. When my kids have fun I have fun! Pilot was wonderful!
By blind luck we picked Wednesday morning to do the Eco Adventure tour, the weather all week had been patchy, so it was a gamble. We went early morning and the conditions (in my eyes anyway) were perfect. Did the safety briefing and we were on our way with Miguel, who was great just the right amount of commentary and engagement. The flight itself smooth, great views with hardly a cloud in the sky. Good close looks at the canyon and waterfalls, the coast line look was the highlight for me knowing this is the best way to see it. Many thanks to Blue Hawaiian from check in to pilot a happy and welcoming group, amenities at the base are first rate too. Its interesting to see these guys are the only ones with permanent infrastructure at the airport of significance (an we didn't know that when we booked), the others operate from portable shelters (not suggesting the others aren't as good just an observation)
If you really want to see paradise, this is the way. The only thing I could think of to describe it was how it must look in God's eyes.
We booked the Big Island Spectacular - the views were impressive and you really get to see the entire Big Island in ways that are impossible to see from the ground. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The only down side is that we waited almost an hour to get on a helicopter after we arrived on time for our flight. Not sure why the delay, but it was pretty long. Also, if you get motion sickness at all, take something before your flight. If a two hour helicopter ride is not something you do regularly, you will want some sort of relief for motion sickness.
We were a group of 6, with 2 kids under the age of 7 a nd everyone LOVED it. The pilot was very knowledgeable of the island, helped us see every highlight and we were lucky enough to spend time seeing whales! The whole experience is worth every minute- really got a feel of the island as a whole and the flight itself was so smooth! Julie was our pilot- highly recommend!
We were hesitant at first to go on our 1st helicopter ride because our car rental person advised us to avoid it due to the high instances of travel sickness. We are glad that we didn't take her advise. The flight was very smooth and the views were out of this world. Everyone who visits Kauai needs to take advantage of this activity. This is the best way to see the entire island, of which nearly 85% is not accessible by car. It is a little pricey, but once you've been you'll understand why. Our pilot, Shay, was EXCELLENT. He was calm, relaxed and very knowledgeable about the island. He made our 1st helicopter ride an experience of a lifetime. Thank you Shay!
We did the West Maui/Molokai tour in a Eco-Star helicopter piloted by Rick. It's nigh impossible to describe how amazing this experience was, so I won't try. Just picture soaring cliffs, beautiful valleys, stunning waterfalls and you'll get some idea. Rick, our pilot, was low key, informative, and exhibited the perfect aura of cool confidence that set our group of helicopter neophytes at ease. Plus, he provided everyone in the aircraft fabulous views no matter where seated. Outstanding experience...just do it!
We scheduled a helicopter tour for our daughter's 10th birthday. Unfortunately the weather was not good and we had to reschedule a few days later. The staff was kind and accommodating. The wait was worth it! Our pilot Geoff did a great job making it a special birthday for our daughter. It was a smooth ride! Our highlight is when Geoff flew us 360 inside a canyon. It was epic! We bought the video to capture the moment so we didn't have to snap as many photos during our tour. Mahalo!
We couldn't wait to go on our helicopter tours (Mom and 2 daughters in early 20's). The orientation was helpful but frightening...ie how to jump out, etc! The ride was amazing until the cabin got warm and the copter swung up, down and sideways. The pilot seemed fine but we were all nearly too nauseas to enjoy the last 1/3 of the flight.
Bite the bullet and pay what it costs to take this helicopter tour. Blue Hawaiian does a top-notch job with their orientation and overall tour. The helicopters are in perfect shape and our pilot was fun and entertaining. Kauai is so beautiful and this is the best way to really get a feel of the island. It was so exciting to fly in the gorges and over the peaks and waterfalls. We noticed another helicopter tour company next door to Blue Hawaiian who had a tent and porta-potty for their passengers. Blue Hawaiian had lockers for personal items, cold lemon water and coffee at no charge and real bathrooms!!! They also were able to accommodate a passenger who used a wheelchair. This was the highlight of our trip to Kauai!
My Husband and I flew over live volcano during February 2016. Our tour was "Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls". The ride was comfortable and fun. We have about 6 people in the copter not counting the pilot. The Pilot was very knowledgeable and he gave us lot of information about the volcanoes and the history of the Island. We flew during the day. We saw lava flowing in the crater and lava burning the trees on the ground. It was unreal. I was expected to take pictures but it was hard due to the movement and also windows were small. Although viewing was ok. So if you are planning to take pictures/ video like me, you will be disappointed. There were not many waterfalls that we saw mostly volcano.
Very inforamtive on the history of the island as well as an overall fun experience! We were nothing but smiles after this great tour. Not to mention we saw whales! Our pilot was amazing! She made sure we all got to see the mother whale and her baby! Mahalo blue hawaiian!
