This is a professional operation through and through. We figured helicopter maintenance and safety were not the optimal places to save money during our trip, so we chose Blue Hawaiian based on their reputation for being the best. We were not disappointed. The helicopters appear to be a cut above the competition's, and our pilot (Trevor) was smooth, friendly, and informative. The tour was a highlight of the trip.
Fabulous your with our tour guide Barrett. Great way to see the entire island. I'd recommend doing early in your trip so that you can plan to get some of what you see into the rest of the trio. Wear black, even pants, if possible. The reflection of my white legs is in half of my photos!
Great ride, great pilot, beautiful views. Plus you get a DVD/thumb drive of your entire experience!
AWESOME RIDE AND PILOT(Marty). Mauna Loa was unable to accommodate my husband and I because of our combined weights. All other tour providers(Jack Harter, Sunshine, etc.) were able to make it work, even with a special 'comfort' seat and/or higher price--which we would've gladly paid for. We certainly don't want to encroach on the comfort of the other passengers. They made no effort to accommodate, just sent an email stating we couldn't fly with them due safety reasons. We ended up going with Blue Hawaiian and it was AWESOME! They even waived the fee for the extra seat and my husband and I were able to sit together. They were very nice and discreet. Highly recommend BLUE HAWAIIAN! They had a nice air-conditioned office, offered lemon water and moist towels after the ride. They seemed really on top of safety and comfort of the riders. Experience of a lifetime!!
This was our first helicopter ride and the experience was great! I got a little anxious before we got into the helicopter but once inside the pilot made us feel completely comfortable with his knowledge and ease. It was amazing flying over Kauai and seeing the whole island with the beautiful scenery and waterfalls. The "Jurassic park" waterfall was a highlight of the flight and we were able to see all of the sights from every seat in the helicopter.
Our family of four embarked on our first ever helicopter ride and Blue Hawaiian was a great introduction to the experience. Their copters are comfortable and we found our pilot James ("Jimmy") reassuring, given that we were all a little nervous as newbies. The operation was smoothly run and everyone was very friendly (except for the lady who initially checked us in and got our weights; maybe she's been doing it for too long). We did have to wait a while after our ride for the staff to download and make copies of the digital video footage from inside and outside the copter so that the passengers could see a preview and decide whether to pay the $25 for the dvd (they were having some additional technical difficulties in our case and we ended up getting a copy of the dvd for free, which made the extra wait worth it). I highly recommend the overall experience, as you will get to see vistas of this gorgeous island that are otherwise inaccessible (and don't worry about wind or rain -- they're used to it and you can still see so much despite the conditions).
This was honestly the coolest thing I have done in my life, which could either mean my life has been horribly boring up to this point, or that it was so fantastic it can't be beat. I assure you it was the later. it was amazing how much of the island can't be seen from the road or hiked too. Our pilot Vince was great, he even took some extra time to hover above a small pod of whales. The water was so crystal blue it looked like they were floating beneath us. A+, and I would do it again in a heart beat.
stormy and I love helicopter tours. They can be an amazing highlight to your trip. But I'm giving this one only three stars because I was the only passenger in the airship with a camera and I got seated in the absolute worst seat (middle back) to take pictures. Nobody asked if I'd like a side seat and when I asked about changing was told that places were computer assigned. So much for bringing my fancy digital SLR. Had a good ride with a nice pilot but I'll be more careful next time.
On a second attempt to get in the air, Miguel provided a great tour. It was the first time almost all of our group were in a helicopter and there was definitely no fear! He provided great information about the island, engaged everyone by name and provided views to every seat. Did I mention a second attempt..... Book this early in your trip. Our first attempt was rainy and he Napali coast was closed. I appreciate that they saw this as an important part of the tour and cancelled the trip for our safety and enjoyment. They quickly rescheduled us for our last full day and it was worth the wait! Best way to see Kauai!
Fantastic experience! Well run and no complaints. It was $450 for 2 people and worth every penny. Seeing the Na'pali coast was amazing and "Jurrasic Park Falls" was excellent. We got a great birds eye view of our resort too. Get the DVD it's worth it.
Highly recommend this, especially if you're only on Kauai for less than a week. It's a great way to see the whole island in less than an hour. It'll also show you places you can't actually reach by foot. Groups of 2 are seated by weight using some magical formula. You are weighed when you check-in (they won't announce your weight, don't worry!) and the "lightest" couple, I believe, gets to sit up in front with the pilot. Everyone else sits in the four seats in the back. There are 6 total seats. Boyfriend and I got to sit up front with the pilot and the view was wonderful! Definitely don't forget to wear dark clothes (they will lend you a dark t-shirt if you forget!). I wore a dark shirt, but also wore shorts. So, my legs actually reflected off the glass in some of the pictures. So, if you have light skin, I would recommend also wearing long pants and sleeves. We got to see everything from Waimea Canyon, to the beautiful NaPali Coast, and even the Jurassic Park waterfalls! If anyone is scared of flying a helicopter, I'll tell you that my friend and I were also pretty scared! But our pilot, Scott, did a wonderful job of being calm and informative throughout our tour. So, even though the helicopter tour will put you back almost $200/pp, I would highly recommend it to anyone!
I never thought I would do a helicopter trip as I get motion sickness very easily. I ended up being fine but took two Dramamine ahead of time. My mom unfortunately got sick during the whole flight. I would think twice about doing this if you get sick easily. If you don't get sick, definitely do this if you can afford it during your vacation. Its not cheap but well worth it. Other than my mom being sick the whole time, it was truly a great adventure. We rode on the Eco Star helicopter which seats 7 people. They seat you by weight so you don't get to pick where you sit. They give you headphones and a microphone as its very loud inside the copter. You have great views though no matter where you site. They take you all over the island - Waimea Canyon, Napoli Coast, Princeville, waterfalls, up and down canyons, Mount Waialeale ( the wettest spot on earth). The views are just beautiful. Lots of great picture taking. I don't know that I will do a helicopter ride again but at least I tried it once and really enjoyed it.
Great flight. Miguel was our pilot. Perfect combination of great pilot and great tour guide. I've been in several helicopters and these were clean and by all appearances very well maintained. Well worth the time and money spent.
The Kauai helicopter tour was one of the coolest things I've ever done! Blue Hawaiian was very professional and friendly. Our pilot was very interactive and gave interesting facts throughout the whole tour. He encouraged any questions or comments. I will recommend Blue Hawaiian to any friends or families looking for an exceptional helicopter tour of Kauai.
This was hands-down the HIGHLIGHT of our Kauai trip, and one of the best things I've ever done in my life! The views were absolutely breathtaking! I've heard that a helicopter tour on Kauai (since approx 75% of the island can only be seen by air!) is a must-do, and I'm so happy we chose Blue Hawaiian! At first I was nervous about even flying in a helicopter, but Pilot Scott put my fears to ease right away. The pilot's informative narration of the sights is combined with relaxing hawaiian music, which makes the experience seem so surreal! Also, Blue Hawaiian heli's looked a lot safer and newer w/bigger windows, than other companies on the same helipad. We got the kamaaina local discount which was approx $175/person, and this discount was even applied to our friends visiting from the mainland! Our friends sat in front with the pilot, and I got the left window while my husband got the middle. My seat made for awesome pics, while the front seats were an overall awesome view! Recommend wearing dark clothes and dark pants, as light colors/your skin will reflect off the windows and it will affect your pictures! The highlights of our tour: 1. 360 degree Rainbows (which can only be seen from the air!) 2. Flying over Jurassic Falls with the Jurassic Park theme song playing in our headsets!! 3. Spotting whales swimming below as we flew over the coastline. 4. The majestic NaPali Coast and Kalalau Valley 5. Clear views of Waimea Canyon (we had gone to the lookout the day before, only to be disappointed with clouds and fog!) All in all, this was THE PERFECT experience to wrap up our Kauai trip! Thanks Blue Hawaiian and Pilot Scott! :)
