We booked the Big Island Experience flight and yes it was very expensive. But from the moment we took off till the moment we landed the flight was an amazing experience which was definitely worth the cost. Our pilot (Greg/GO) was friendly and informative. We loved the volcano cone and lava flow but were blown away by the beautiful Kohala Coast. It was so beautiful we were moved by the experience of seeing it from a helicopter. The flight was also enjoyed by our 9 and 7 year old kids.

Our pilot Brian was a lot of fun and the ride was outstanding. The only reason we give 4 stars instead of 5 was the DVD quality - looks like it's from the 1990s and fails to capture the magic of the tour.

This is an amazing experience and a fantastic way to see such a picturesque island. There is no way you could see as much from land, so I highly recommend this tour. Our pilot was Scott T (from Texas), he was extremely knowledgeable and engaged with all of the six passengers in the helicopter. We had great weather for our early morning flight and even got to see several humpback whales. Our group all agreed it was totally worth the price we paid. The Blue Hawaiian base is conveniently located at Lihue airport, the cost of the video is good value at $40 and it comes on a USB drive. Passenger placement is based on the weight of the individual, I believe. Best views for taking your own photos/ video is either seat 7, seat 2, or seat 3... As these place you next to the window - much more convenient than having to lean over the person next to you.

Done a helicopter tour on Kauai (definitely worth it) so wasn't sure about spending a lot of money on another tour, but glad I did. Helicopter takes you out above the lava fields and across one active crater (not the big one) and the point where the lava flow meets the ocean. Impressive to see from above! Pictures can't capture the magnitude of it all. Don't expect massive eruptions of red flowing lava from the crater. That's only in movies. The waterfalls they include in the tour after the lava fields are by far not as impressive as the ones you get to see on Kauai. Would not spend extra money on those.

Our pilot Brian was very nice and had lots of information. He took us into the 'valleys of the island and made sure everyone, no matter where you sat, got to see and take photos. The flight was very smooth and at points I forgot I was in a helicopter. I really recommend this trip to anyone wanting at different view of the island. You can't even comprehend how green and untouched most of this island (Kauai) is until you fly over it. Mahalo y'all ;)
