On Thursday, April 18 we had the best experience of our 12 day stay on Kauai: a helicopter tour around the island that was wonderful in every way. We chose blue Hawaiian because of its good reputation and reviews, and the fact that the tour would be in the Eco Star helicopter, which is very comfortable with great viewing. The weather had been variable so we waited to book 2 days ahead for a 9:30 am flight, hoping for a clear morning over Waimea Canyon . We were lucky, it was a perfect morning for the interior and the NaPali Coast as well, with the right mix of cloud and sun to emphasize and highlight the spectacular canyons and cliffs and beaches. Our experience was enhanced by the enthusiastic and informative commentary by our pilot, Nathan, who obviously loves this beautiful island. As well his professionalism, experience and competence would reassure even the most nervous passenger. He hugely impressed my husband who, because he was himself an airline pilot, was watching closely. Indeed everyone we dealt with at Blue Hawaiian, from the desk people to Brian, the comedic bus driver made it clear we were in good hands, that safety was the first priority, and that we would have a wonderful experience. Which we certainly did!
We had heard great reviews of touring the island by helicopter and Blue Hawaiian Tours did not disappoint. Employees were friendly and Nathan was a great pilot and narrator had a great mix of music for flight. Transportation time between office and landing pad was a little long however they will be opening up a brand new office right at the airport so this will not be an issue anymore. Bring your Go Pro and Camera as anything to capture the beauty of the land is a necessity! I would recommend buying the video of your personalized tour.... it's only $25 and when else are you going to do this :) Flight is pretty smooth however if you get air sick take something beforehand just to be sure!
Everything from the flight briefing to the service was top notch. The pilot was very friendly and knowledgeable. The entire staff was friendly and courteous. We saw things that will stay with us for life. We also bought the DVD of our ride (which was reasonable for only $25). Highly recommended!
This was amazing. First off this company is top notch! The EcoStar helicopter is incredible and rides very smoothly. The windows offered amazing views no matter where you sit. It was just my family of four so it seemed like a private tour. Started with Brian who gave us safety lessons and then drove the van to the heliport. He was so funny and we enjoyed the drive! Then our pilot Marty took over. He was talkative and told us all about the island throughout the ride. He was entertaining and was a fantastic pilot. I would highly recommend this tour. We rode a very small helicopter in Alaska and it made me so sick so I was very nervous about motion sickness. I did take Bonine before going but don't think I needed it. The ride was so very smooth. Well worth the high cost. We have a DVD that they made for $25 as well as videos I made with my Go pro. MAKE SURE YOU WEAR DARK CLOTHES TO LESSEN REFLECTIONS AND USE A CIRCULAR POLARIZER ON YOUR CAMERA
This is a must do for anyone visiting Kauai. It is the best way to see the whole island. You won't believe the beauty until you have done it. This was the first helicopter ride for my wife and I and we felt comfortable throughout the whole ride. Our pilot Brandon was excellent and made us feel at ease with his flying experience. I took a ton of pictures, but you have to take your eye out of the camera to make sure to really enjoy the views. From the moment you go up, until you land is just amazing. The only drawback for me, was that the seatting was arranged by a computer, putting me in one of the back middle seats. I was still able to take pictures, but not as good as a window seat. Also, the man that was in the front window seat wore a bright blue hawaiian shirt, which left blue reflections in a lot of my pictures. I had a lot of good pictures wrecked by this. They recommend that you wear dark clothing so this doesn't happen, which I did, but unfortunatley this man didn't read it. I made a comment to the nice girl working behind the desk about this, when she asked how our flight was, and she was nice enough to offer our video for the inconvenience. They should make people wear a dark colored jacket or shirt to ride these, because most of us only get one shot at this in a lifetime. Otherwise this trip was amazing!!!
Our flight was beyond our imagination. Our pilot, Dean, did an outstanding job of providing a wealth of information about everything we were seeing, and balancing it with humor (Go Redneck!:) This trip is truly the best way to see all of the beauty Kauai has to offer and has definitely been the highlight of our trip thus far. The staff at the Blue Hawaiian office were really wonderful to work with, and Leilani in particular was very helpful in giving us information about the island to plan the rest of our stay. Highest recommendations and thanks for a great experience:)
My 90 year old mother and I recently had one of the most exciting experiences of our lives. The staff did everything to make this a memorable time for mum. We flew over towering waterfalls and into amazing canyons and finally beside the Napali Coastine. The commentary was excellent and at the end we had the option of purchasing a copy of a DVD of our actual flight. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Hawaiian holidays.
Barrett was a great pilot and tour guide! Had a wonderful time, and would highly recommend this tour for everyone.
We took the doors on tour. All I can say is Wow! Kauai is absolutely gorgeous! Our pilot, Vincent, made sure both sides of the helicopter got to see the same views which was appreciated. I had never been in a helicopter before and was amazed how smooth the ride was. And the windows are so large you can see so much. Not a bad seat. I highly recommend this company and this fantastic way to see Kauai!
Pilot Brandyn took us on a 50 minute flight around the island and was very knowledgable about the island, its history and the movies shot on Kauai. The helicopter took 7 passengers (3 next to the pilot and 4 in the back), but even though I sat in the backseat in the middle I could see everything well. If you can, book through Expedia (they had an office in the lobby of our hotel) so you get a free t-shirt and a nice DVD of Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
A must do! Taking the ride was awesome. The views of the island were unbelievable. The waterfalls were the best. A must do if you visit this island. The service was good - very good pilot. Gave lots of info.
We decided on a helicopter ride over a plane ride, and i am very glad we did. My wife and i had never flown on a copter before, but it was relatively smooth. The interior is not roomy, but for an hour flight, it's comfortable. I am 6'2" some I am used to being cramped on any flight. Our pilot was Brandon. He was knowledgeable and provided good descriptions. The copter can get into canyons and hover to give you a much better view of the falls and topography. The seats are assigned by the computer according to weight so don't bother asking for a particular seat. I had a middle seat and I was not deprived of any views. My wife had the window.
My wife and I took the tour over Kauai this morning with Captain Marty, he was fantastic and the experience was the highlight of our trip so far. Every aspect of the trip was top notch, well organized and friendly. The helicopters look like new and are very comfortable with everything we needed. Our first tour was cancelled due to rain but they were very helpful in finding a new date and time the next day, the way they handled this spoke volumes about their customer service. Captain Marty was knowledge and engaging during the trip, he was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend using them for your trip!
We saw so many waterfalls on Kauai. The tour was amazing and our pilot was so knowledgeable. He pointed out where different movies had been filmed and played the Jurassic Park music as we flew up to that waterfall. It was amazing! He even told us that Hunger Games was being filmed on the island. Take the helicopter ride!
We took the Kauai Blue Hawaiian Helicopters tour as an excursion with Norwegian's Pride of America cruise. The views, the accompanying music in the headset, and the non-intrusive descriptions by the pilot make this experience everyone should do once when on Kauai. We flew close to large waterfalls on sheer cliffs, over the bright colors of Waimea Canyon, and some breathtaking beaches. Worth every penny.
