Fantastic Experience
Big Island - Hilo

This was my first time in a helicopter and I will admit, I was a little nervous before the flight. I had inquired with other companies for the same tour, but chose BH merely on reputation. Although BH was pricier than the other companies, I somehow felt more relaxed and reassured by booking a reputable company. The check in at Hilo Airport was very quick and the ladies working the front were nice and very welcoming. After a brief safety video and issuing of life jackets, we were on our way. We walked out to the helicopter and the pilot helped us get in. Our pilot was " Kimo". He provided us with a very smooth and informative ride. I was surprised at how "smooth " the ride in a helicopter was. The trip to see the volcano was awesome. We had the opportunity in 2005 to hike from Chain of Craters Road and see the lava flows up close. I knew before our arrival that surface flows would not be accessible by foot, thus the decision to fly over. We did see lava breakouts on our trip and it still is a sight to see. If you have an interest in seeing the world's most active Volcano, you can't miss this. What's another $200....you are most likely on vacation and have spent a bundle so far.lol Remember to take your camera for pictures, but sit back and enjoy the experience .They have a DVD of your ride which you can purchase after. Have fun.

Pricey, but worth it!
Big Island - Hilo

This was our first helicopter trip and we really enjoyed it. We chose the two hour trip that pretty much covered all of the Big Island. The whole operation was classy---from the service to the maintenance of their building and helicopters. Safety was a high priority and their approach definitely created a high sense of confidence that you were in good hands. The pilot was extremely friendly, knowledgable and professional. He was outgoing and tried to engage everyone on the trip. We got great views of the Volcanoes, the coast and deep valleys with AMAZING waterfalls. Views you would likely never see----even if you are the most avid hiker/explorer. It was quite pricey, but the person we booked with on the phone offered a discount. One note---if you, or anyone in your party, are over 250 lbs. you will have to pay an additional 1/2 seat charge. They handled this very discreetly and it did not seem to be a big deal at all. Some of the seats were cramped---especially on leg room. If you have big issues with circulation----you might want to mention this to them in advance. They may not be able to do anything about it---but there are several choices of seat assignments that could possibly be altered depending on the other people on your flight. We enjoyed it immensely. Well worth the cost for a one-time experience.

Fabulous Views of Big Island
Big Island - Hilo

They provide a very professional yet engaging experience. The Staff was excellent. Ruby was very helpful and friendly. Toshi was an excellent guide and very accommodating. We toured the whole island and saw lava flows, active vents and wonderful waterfalls. Everyone had a good view and Toshi made sure to turn the helicopter around so all could see the really cool stuff. Lot's of 'WOW' experiences. We highly recommend Blue Hawaiian.

Nice but not what exactly what I expected
Big Island - Hilo

I took a trip a few weeks ago over Hilo. It was raining in the early morning and I called ahead to see if the trip was cancelled or not. The lady said that the fog and rain was just local to Hilo. Once outside of Hilo just north we saw a few waterfalls, but not nearly as close as the pictures show. We then went south and didn't get too much of a view b/c of the fog and we circled around some of the steam and lava sites, which was real nice but it wasn't near what the website shows. It was a nice trip but not for the $180 p/p !! We were expecting to see lava pouring right into the ocean and swooping close to the waterfalls but we didn't get to see either. Like I said it was nice but not at all what either of us expected. I understand they don't control the weather but they should have cancelled the trip or rescheduled or cut the price since we didn't see many of the attractions. I would recommend this trip but with a grain of salt and not expect the beautiful sites you see in the pamphlet.

Great lava views
Big Island - Hilo

Our pilot offered us plenty of photo opps as he came around to the lava flow more than a couple times. James AKA Kimo was really great. He had plenty to tell us & put up with our questions very graciously. This is a must to consider if a helicopter ride is on your itinerary.

GREAT TOUR - FROM EVERY SEAT
Big Island - Waikoloa

Mike, our pilot, was an AWESOME tour guide!! He gave a really interesting narration as we flew and gave every single person the opportunity to see and take photos of everything from lava, to the valleys, to waterfalls to the towns we flew over. Thanks Mike & Blue Hawaiian for making our first helicopter ride something we will never forget!

Awesome ride
Big Island - Waikoloa

We chose the 2 hour tour, Big Island Spectacular in the Ecostar, over the volcano, up the East coast and up into to valleys with waterfalls with gorgeous weather. Awesome! We had a great pilot Jason who made it very entertaining and was very knowledgable. The gals that check you in etc. are as nice as they can be.

The experience of a lifetime!
Big Island - Waikoloa

Let me just start off by saying this: of ALL the things I did on this two week vacation this was certainly #1! Not surprisingly- it was the most expensive too! There are a few different tours and two different types of helicopter you can b00k. I opted for the Big Island Spectacular on the Eco-Star helicopter. I really feel this was the way for me to go, as it allowed me to take-in the whole island- Seeing the volcanoes, flowing lava, waterfalls, and even a lone humpback whale! The pilot was a former Coast guide helicopter pilot. He was very friendly and full of info about what we were seeing. He even encouraged us to talk and be an active part of the trip. very interactive. As I said, I knew this would be expensive, and it was, but it was worth every penny. And doing it again would be a "no-brainer" for me!

Once in a Lifetime
Big Island - Waikoloa

Friends cautioned us against touring the Big Island of Hawaii by helicopter because of the possibility of crashing, but we got so excited about the possibility of photographing this incredibly diverse island from the air that we "threw caution to the wind", literally. We were given the option of doing one of two 45 minute flights, or we could do a single hour and 45 minute flight encompassing the south eastern part of the island, the eastern coast and the northern tip. We decided this was a "once in a lifetime" event and went for the long flight .... and we're glad we did. We signed up for the first flight of the day which would leave at 7:00 a.m. so we got to the heliport by 6:15 a.m., dressed in black, so no light clothing would reflect in the windows and ruin photographs. The morning was beautiful on the western Kohala coast of the island, the side that is made up of large a'a lava fields, dry ranch land and tropical shores with white sand beaches. The sun was shining brightly and the sky was clear blue, with not a cloud to be seen. As we flew south toward Mauna Loa, we could see a solid layer of clouds below us stretching to the east for as far as the eye could see. It hugged the eastern base of the mountain which is where we descended into and then below the clouds - entering an entirely different atmosphere. We were now flying over dark black and slate-gray lava fields and could see volcanic gases spewing from a sizeable fumarole - ominous and foreboding were words that came to mind. As we continued northeast, the darkness and gray gave way to light and green - lush farm land, macadamian nut farms and the island city of Hilo. North of there is some of the most beautiful and dramatic coast line with steep cliffs and deep valleys, hiding waterfalls amidst their forests. Beaches on this side of the island are rocky and black. Cresting the Kohala Mountains, you see the lush greeness of the northeast coast on one side of the mountain and the arid beigeness of miles and miles of ranch land on the other. The contrasts on this island are amazing and truly a "wonder to behold" especially from the air. This excursion is not inexpensive, but we both feel it was worth every penny as well as the possible risks. Were we to do it all over again (given the recent crash on Molokai), we'd still make the decision to fly around the island with Blue Hawaiian.

Excellent, got lucky, lava lava and more lava
Big Island - Waikoloa

Flew on Dec 28, 2011. Out of Kona. Large lava flow moving fast past the subdivision, burning trees, windows into lava tubes, and ocean entry in multiple locations. One spot looked like a red waterfalls dumping into the ocean. Pilot gave everyone fantastic views. Spent lots of time there. Then off to the unbelievable water falls. Will remember the views and trip till the day I die. Pilot was very good and made sure all sides had excellent views with detail info. Highly recommend this, but check the government web site first to see how active the flows are. If no lava, I would still recommend it for the waterfalls. You can't see this from a boat or on foot. This Will Be Your Trip Highlight
Big Island - Waikoloa

In two hours you will see spectacular places on the Big Island that you can't see any other way - it's just not possible even if you're a serious hiker with several weeks to crawl through incredibly rugged terrain. This is the trip that will blow away those with whom you travel. All the superlatives in the other reviews are correct, such as 'experience of a lifetime.' We had Greg as our pilot and flew in an A-Star aircraft. Greg was an excellent pilot, a personable host making everyone feel part of the adventure, and the 'mature ladies' on our flight referred to him as sexy [what do I know?]. Here's a few recommendations: - book online and get the online discount. - if you have the extra money go with the Eco-Star; but, the A-Star gives you the same tour over the same sights - you won't miss anything. - go for the two-hour Big Island Spectacular flight. Yes, it's the most expensive; but, are you going to come this far and go to all of this trouble and miss some of the amazing sights to save a few bucks? Come on, you'll only do this once. - buy the $25 DVD after your flight; it's a relatively inexpensive souvenir you can use to bore your friends and family for years to come showing the scenes you saw and including the audio of you talking with the pilot about what you're seeing. - schedule this flight early in your stay for two reasons: 1) weather can postpone flights for more than one day; and, 2) it helps put your time on Hawai'i in context - everything else you see and experience during your stay will be from the perspective of what you saw while flying. - take your camera, even if you plan to buy the souvenir DVD. You'll get incredible shots to upload to Facebook [and, Tripadvisor], and you can pose for a picture before/after your flight with your group and pilot that otherwise wouldn't be on your DVD. Finally, while I wouldn't force anyone to go who might have strong fears of such activities, I would suggest you strongly encourage those who are just tentative. My adult daughter was uncomfortable, if not nervous, both before and during the flight; but, felt afterwards that everything else we would do during our island visit would be anticlimactic - she really thought it was great. Enjoy your stay on the Big Island.

Don't miss this trip - best thing on the island
Big Island - Waikoloa

Went with my grandson, as a birthday present from my son. You will not forget this almost 2 hour trip. You see sights not possible any other way from the red-hot lava flowing into the sea in the south to the valleys in the northeast. We went after a week of heavy rain, so all the water falls were superb. Our pilot was Tosi, who was very friendly got everyone involved; also very experienced, who previously trained helicopter pilots in San Jose, CA. It is not low cost, but you can save by booking the lower cost helicopter (A-star) which is more than a $100 cheaper than the ECO helicopter. It turns out that most of their helicopters are ECO, so we went anyway in an ECO (very comfortable with good views). Also you can save another $50 if you book on-line in advance.

Tim was a great guide and pilot
Big Island - Waikoloa

Everything was fantastic except for one factual misstatement. 150 people do NOT die each year from falling coconuts! Had to look that one up! Overall it was exhilarating, educational and entertaining. A must do on Maui.

This is something you don't want to miss doing in Hawaii.
Big Island - Hilo

This was one of the highlights of our Hawaiian Vacation. Our pilot took us out over the ocean where we saw 8 humpback whales swimming. We then circled back to the land where he flew us over waterfalls and flowing lava fields. The pilot was very knowledgeable and informative. Airsick bags are available for those of you who may have a problem while flying. The whole flight is recored by cameras in the cockpit and on the outside of the helicopter so you can buy your experience on DVD after you get back for $25. This was a great adventure for myself and my family.

AMAZING VIEWS!!
Big Island - Hilo

So I wasnt sure what to expect at first. I was a little nervous being in a helicopter and not sure. Let me start off by saying I felt safe and relaxed the minute I got into the helicopter. We did the 2 hour tour and was amazed at everything I saw. The view you get of the volcano is nothing less than amazing and magical. The water falls were breath taking also. Our guide filled us in on everything we were seeing as well as some great information about the island itself. If you are thinking about doing to helicopter tour I would definitely tell you to do this one!
