You MUST take a helicopter tour!!! I am afraid of heights and afraid of flying...but this was nothing like I expected! Staff was great, pilot was experienced and entertaining! I LOVED it! Worth every penny!
Our tour of West Maui and Molokai with pilot Mike was the highlight of our recent trip to Maui. We were impressed by the Blue Hawaiian staff who booked and rebooked us due to rain, and were overwhelmed by the tour that pilot Mike gave us of remote Molokai and the beautiful West Maui mountains. We whale watched in the channel between the islands, watching a mom and calf and later an enormous male who was an incredible turquoise blue just under the ocean surface. We saw a large group of manta rays on the reef and enjoyed the dramatic scenery of the cliffs and ridges on Molokai. Mike shared some great info and stories. We would highly recommend these nice people and their professional operation. Mahalo!
Must do helicopter tour when on Maui! Had an awesome pilot named Glenda! Definitely worth the value! Try to schedule in advance. Telephone reservations are a breeze to make.
This was my first helicopter ride. We weren't able to see Hana and Haleakalabe because of clouds. They offered us a trip to Molokai and it was fabulous. We had great customer service, a great experience, and Eric the pilot was great. He was informative and a professional.
Starting off they say there was a charge for parking, but when we arrived there was not. You arrive 45 minutes early and take a safety demonstration as well as a video. The ride itself is 45-50 minutes. We were fortunate in that it had rained a lot. There were many rain fed waterfalls on both West Maui and Moloka'i. This tour is the favorite of the employees, or so they told us. You start off going over the west part of Maui. The coast line is rugged and has a lot of the famous red dirt. Then you cross the channel to Moloka'i. The sea cliffs on Moloka'i are breath taking. Then back to Maui, over Lahaina and Kapalua. Through the West Maui mountains and back to Kahului. If you can spare the time, this is a great ride. We did the eco-star. Very quiet and roomy.
Linda (the lady pilot!) was a knowledgeable and friendly guide who showed us the island in an hour. A must see.
We did the Maui to Molokai run and it was well worth the trip. The ground crew was professional and the pilot was excellent
we booked a 50 min west Maui & Molokai helicopter tour and it was very easy to book through the web site. Our second week in Maui was a bit rainy and we received a call stating that they needed to reschedule due to rain. Staff was very accommodating, rescheduling us for the 5th of March, before we were to leave the island. Our pilot was outstanding and made us feel very comfortable. I was afraid of motion sickness but had no issues due to his smooth flying. We were 6 guests in the helicopter and were lucky enough to be up front, having the best views. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that we bought the DVD of our flight but the DVD keeps freezing. I emailed them on the 15th and again last Sunday but have yet to receive an acknowledgment of my email. So great bucket list item for sure but beware of skipping DVDS.
Blue Hawaii Helicopters is located just minutes from the main Maui airport. If you are renting a car, note that you will have to pay for parking once you get to the heli-pad. We signed up for the 65 minute tour but there is a shorter and slightly cheaper tour you can take. The route we originally signed up for was the full island tour including Hana and Haleaka but due to cloud cover, we were redirected to the West Maui and Moloka'i route. The company was good about offering to reschedule/refund if we had our sites set on the Hana route which was nice to see. We decided to do the West Maui route and weren't disappointed. The helicopter we were in was able to carry 2 passengers plus the pilot in the front/first row of seats and 4 in second row of seats. When you arrive, they weigh you and you are assigned seats so no point in rushing to try to get the front seats. All of the seats are great and the pilot does a great job of circling around so everyone can see the sites. After a brief safety video, putting on the fanny pack style life preserver, buckling up and putting on the BOSE noise cancelling headphones, we were off. We saw some fantastic waterfalls and valleys as well as whale pods in various spots. The rock formations and views were awesome. All the while the pilot is conversing with the passengers, giving interesting tidbits of information, as well as talking to flight control and other helicopters in the area which were many. He got really close to the waterfalls! We did the 2:15 flight with a check-in around 1:30. If you get motion sickness, you might want to consider an earlier flight. I don't generally get motion sickness but the updrafts in the afternoon heat were a bit jarring. It was hot the day we went, so wear something appropriate for the weather and you will be fine. Bring cameras, sunglasses and some sunscreen if its sunny. Overall it was a great experience. The Blue Hawaii crew were very professional and it was clear this company was a cut above the rest. A definite must experience.
I would prefer to give a 4.5 as our guide was more than adequate and the helicopter experience speaks for itself. Best advise is to have lots of questions and don't be shy about requests. Our pilot had only been in HI for 4 months, but he was knowledgable and engaging, but not overly gregarious in his narration. He wasn't able to take us to the far side of Moloka'i due to cloud cover, which was our main interest. So 4.5 would be perfect, but bump to 5 was no complaints just wishes for more forthcoming thoughts on Hawaii.
Spectacular adventure with Blue Hawaiian Maui. Did one-hour tour. East end of island was covered in clouds so we had option to either cancel or do west end plus Molokai island. So glad we did this! Molokai is sparsely populated and has sharp cliffs with plentiful waterfalls- never would have had opportunity to see this stunning scenery otherwise. Glenda our pilot is very experienced, skilled and knowledgeable about the islands.
My family was excited to go on this trip/tour. We booked the entire island tour but because of rain/clouds we weren't able to go to Haleakala side. It was decided to to to Molokai instead. I would honestly say at the end they were very disappointed. It was enjoyable seeing the things not easily observed but seeing the crater would have been much more enjoyable, I think. Agree with many of the other responses the guide/pilot is what would made it much better. Our pilot did not say much except what was asked and the standard things were pointed out. There were many moments of extended silence. I haven't quit decided whether it was worth the cost for that hour tour--a bit steep. I doubt we will be doing this again.
We took a 6 person helicopter ride to Hana from the heliport. The helicopter was comfortable, and the pilot pointed out many interesting sites and shared local stories in the way. Definitely a first rate service! Highly recommend!
We booked the Maui Spectacular 90 minute tour over the phone and it was very easy and employees were extremely nice. Unfortunately, we got a call a half hour before our check in that weather was not allowing us to travel and view the East side of the island which included Hana and the crater. This was a HUGE disappointment but understandably not their fault. We were given the option to get a refund, reschedule or replace the East side with Molokai. We didn't want to reschedule as we weren't sure the weather would be any better another day. Plus we got rained out on our trip 8 yrs ago so we replaced it. They said we would still see waterfalls and we did but not the lushness of Hana with the waterfalls or the greatness of the crater. The rest of my group was still pleased with the tour but I was not. The pilot was good but he did repeat himself several times.
Start to finish, this was an experience unlike any other. The staff were professional and the ride itself was perfect. We had perfect weather, which made it even better. We saw the Haleakala crater and the road to Hana in way less time than we could see them on land. We bought the DVD of our trip and the commercially produced video as well. The advice I have is to ask when booking which helicopter had HD video capability. Ours did not, but was still fine. I would have preferred HD.
