Very recently, my daughter and I took the West Maui and Molokai tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. Our woman pilot was very professional, the 'state of the art' eco helicopter was impressive and the commentary was interesting. I was, however, a bit disappointed by two things. One was that, on a number of occasions, during the Molokai waterfalls and sea cliffs part of our tour, serious window glare prevented me from taking a photo. This glare was in spite of the fact that all four of us in the back seat were wearing black clothes and the pilot manoeuvred the helicopter in order to give all six passengers the best photo opportunities. My second disappointment was that I would have liked to have seen more of Molokai's incredible sea cliffs. Sadly, we only got to see the very beginning of them and only very briefly. When the 2001 Space Odyssey Opening music came over our headsets, the most spectacular sea cliff scene imaginable suddenly come into view and, just as suddenly it was gone and we were given no photo opportunity to capture it. Why? Shouldn't the very best be savoured for at least a few minutes? Since taking our West Maui and Molokai tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, I have learnt that Air Maui Helicopter Tours offers a slightly longer West Maui and Molokai tour that flies further along Molokai's truly amazing sea cliffs. It is too bad that Blue Hawaiian Helicopters does not offer this. The waterfalls and sea cliffs of Molokai are stunning. They should not to be missed!
My husband and I went on a helicopter tour once before in another country and had a great time, so when we saw the opportunity to do it again in Maui, we were excited. The first time we tried in March of '11, the flight was cancelled due to weather, and we didn't have time to reschedule. This time, we made it out. So, I recommend you schedule your flight early in your vacation in case there are weather issues. Also, morning time tends to be less windy, so you may want to suck it up and get up early. Now, the first time my husband and I were in a helicopter, the helicopter involved duct tape. This time, we were in Blue Hawaiian's Eco Star. It was absolutely amazing; like a Rolls Royce by comparison but really nice in its own right. Great windows, modern equipment, extremely smooth ride, nice headsets. My husband and I ended up being placed in the front. If you want to take pictures, you may want to pay the extra $$ to get a front seat. I am not so sure it would have been as awesome from the back, but maybe! We didn't pay extra, it was just a happy coincidence. Our pilot Mike was really, really fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable, and he treated us like humans rather than tourists. I know that may sound strange, but Maui is very much a tourist destination and folks on the island are clearly used to just dealing with tons and tons of tourists. It often shows in their interactions with people in a bad way. Mike was a pleasant exception. I'm sure he's talked about the things he showed us a million times, but you didn't get the sense that he was bored with it, tired of it, or had heard it all from passengers. You got the sense that he loved his job and loved Maui. Overall, I really have no complaints.
Hawaii is great, this is the best thing to see the island. Wonderful waterfalls, forest and sometimes hidden forest. Sitting in the middle is one set back. No view.
Our Pilot Sean was polite, knowledgable & friendly, answered all our questions well. His choice of music was great durring all aspects of our flight which we continue to enjoy on our dvd of our flight made that day showing us in the helicopter (our grand kids think wer'e movie stars now. The falls were spectacular al though it was becoming dusk & harder to see. our 4pm flight was changed due to some problems with the mic's we would use to communicate but they upgraded us to the better viewing copter, gave us a free dvd of our flight and moved us to 5p. we sat in the back with an awesome view except the man in front of me did not listen to them and wore a light tshirt (reflections not good for pictures so be sure you wear dark colors) the front seat people said the son was in their eyes a lot but not for us in back. I had been up in copters before but to have good viewing the doors were off making me fearfull & it was noisy!!! not so in these copters they were awesome, quiet & your headphones & mic make you feel like the co-pilot as your pilot explains what you are looking at & what caused it, also allows you to speak to the 7 others in your copter. i can't wait to back to another island in 2013 and i'll go back with this copter tour for sure!!!
From beginning to end Blue Hawaiian gets 5 stars. Our Pilot Eric was awesome, friendly and funny. He made sure we got all the pictures we wanted and explained everything in great detail.
Having read the reviews prior to our trip, I chose Blue Hawaii for our helicopter tour and was very pleased. We love deals, but going up in a helicopter is not the time to pinch pennies! They were very professional all the way. Emery did a great job as our pilot and narrator - we learned a lot of interesting facts. We chose the West Maui tour of about 30 minutes, the shortest one, because we had never been in a helicopter before and weren't sure what to expect. Couldn't believe how smooth it was - wish we'd had time to do one of the other tours. We arrived extra early - I asked if it would be possible for us to sit up front - I know a lot depends on the sizes and weights, but we were pleased when they honored our request - it never hurts to ask:)
One thing in all of the reviews you read is that Blue Hawaiaan is a first class Act. First, they are safe, their equipment is obvious ally maintained and our guide was a local who could pull stories on just about anything we saw. I typically have a motion problem but not in this. Motion tablet the night before and that morning and no issues. Since the Kawai we also did the big island with as good a luck. I sat in the rear once and fri t seat once and with the window set up I found both good
My sisters and I so enjoyed the whole island helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. On time, courteous and made us feel at home and welcomed! Our pilot, Emery, was such a professional and made our trip so interesting with all his knowledge of the island. He gave us all microphones so we could ask questions and would fly closer to something we expressed an interest in. We were lucky to have chosen Blue Hawaiian as we found out later that they are the "Cadillac" of helicopter tour companies. They were such a class act and we all highly recommend them.
By far our favorite part of our honeymoon vacation! Best way to see the island. Jonathan was great tour guide / pilot! Highly recommend!!!
My wife and I took the complete Island tour on Maui with blue Hawaiian helicopters. We have a great time, it was a beautiful day and spent an hour or so enjoying all the great sites around the island. If you're looking to do a tour this is a great company to go with, professionally run, and the pilot to great job of guiding us through the tour.
We booked this trip through our travel agent's recommendation. They were on time, courteous, and efficient. The pilot was very kind and informative. The views from the ride were spectacular. Best way to see all of Kauai that is so hard to get to. For a reasonable fee we bought the souvenir DVD of our ride.
Really enjoyed our look at Maui from above! Blue Hawaiian has a first class operation. Extremely professional to allow even the nervous to relax enjoy the trip. We booked the 1 1/2 hour whole-island tour and loved every minute of it. Amazing sites from a perspective that you usually don't get. We saw Haleakela from the air so we didn't bother to spend half a day driving up to the top. Our pilot was extremely informative and knowledgeable, sharing stories which made the trip interesting. The stop at the ranch is a nice touch, along with the bottle of pineapple champagne (which was great as we didn't get a chance to go to the winery on our trip). Well worth the money if you can afford it. Something you'll remember forever and it's not like you'll do it every year. I would say you're better off doing it towards the end of the vacation, that way you know what you are looking at after days of exploring the island. We did buy the DVD of "our" trip (cameras inside and outside the helicopter record everything) for $25 which isn't outrageous, but it would have been nice if they included it in the price of the expensive whole island tour. Will definitely use them again when we visit the Big Island.
Wow! what an experience to fly over a volcano and see the active lava and the Blue Hawaiian helicopters were fantastic. Our pilot Roger was excellent, professional and shared the history of the volcano, Hilo and surroundings so clearly. Roger our pilot ensured that all passengers were able to see the highlights such as the lava sleeves, the steam coming off the hot earth and the magnificant coastline. Blue Hawaiian helicopters were organised and staff settled us into the helicopters ready for a flight of a lifetime. What a fantastic idea to have cameras on the helicopters inside and outside and for a reasonable price you can purchase the DVD of your flight that shows you in the helicopter and the wonderful scenery and volcano we flew over. Great work Blue Hawaiian and many thanks to our Pilot Roger.
Just flew on Blue Hawaiian Helicopters in Maui! I've been on several other flights with Blue Hawaiian and have enjoyed all of them thoroughly! Tim, our pilot was outstanding and did a great job explaining all of the history and various sites that we flew over in great detail! He's a keeper for sure!! I highly recommend!!
We flew with Blue Hawaiian October 15 and loved the tour. We had booked the eastern route, but due to the low cloud ceiling were offered either the western route, re-schedule to another day, or refund. Obviously safety and an enjoyable tour for the customers are Blue Hawawiian's first concerns and we appreciate that. We, of course, opted for the western route and couldn't be more pleased with the entire flight. We can't say enought about our pilot, Emery, an excellent pilot who pointed out all the points of interest and gave us interesting history and highlights of the islands. Thanks to him and the entire staff at Blue Hawaiian for a great trip!
