My wife and I took our very first helicopter tour, with Blue Hawaii and we so happy. Our pilot, Barrett, was very knowledge and friendly. The helicopter was clean, roomy and a/c worked great. Barrett did a great job explaining everything. Mentioned us all by name during flight. Great, great company. When in Hawaii, I will choose Blue Hawaiian Helicopters for any flights.
This was my first experience in a helicopter. Tim quickly made us feel comfortable. His knowledge of history & the environment was exceptional. Even though the weather prevented us from viewing the Haleakala crater he took us over to Molokai to view the coastline, spectacular cliffs & waterfalls. I would go again in a heartbeat.
My husband and I loved the helicopter tour of Molokai and western Maui. The views of the waterfalls and reefs in Molokai were breaktaking, and the beautiful vistas of Maui were awesome! Our pilot was informative and professional, and we loved every minute of this incredible experience. This experience was unforgettable and so much fun! Ask to be seated in at the front of the heliocopter when you book your flight. The views there are outstanding.
We flew out from Hilo airport for the 'circle of fire' tour and it was fantastic. We had a great pilot, Ethan, who made sure we got great views of the erupting lava. There is no way that we could have seen this detail from the ground. We also got the DVD which was a great record of our helicopter flight.
My husband and I decided to tour the island via helicopter. It was one of the best choices we made! We went with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters and were extremely happy! The views of the island and waterfalls were amazing. Emery, our pilot, did an excellent job of explaining all the history of the islands we covered and made it fun and we felt like family. Remembered us by name and included us in the conversation. Loved the flight and would do it again in a minute... only I'd take the longer flight!! Thank you Emery and thank you Blue Hawaiian!! xoxo
We flew on the Maui Spectacular tour. The staff at Blue Hawaiian were without exception excellent, being friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Our pilot Tim's breadth of knowledge and engaging manner really made the trip for us, not only during the tour but he was also keen to give us information on other places to visit to make sure the rest of our holiday was as good as this trip. We liked the trip so much we got engaged. Good work Blue Hawaiian.
We booked this trip out of kona on the big Island and Scott was our pilot. The trip was almost 2 hours and took us over the kilauea volcano sites and then over a macadamia farm through the pu uomi valley where we viewed high waterfalls across the parker ranch, one of the largest ranches in Hawaii. The trip was awesome and my wife and I enjoyed it alot and can say if was a first class operation. Was very costly but worth it for the value received and pictures we got from the trip as we probably would not have seen this any other way.
What a wonderful and outstanding trip this was! We rode in the Eco-Star, a French-built helicopter that was quiet, with a really smooth ride, thanks in great part to pilot Anna. She was very skilled as a narrator, too, and she served us 'champagne' or juice during our short stop high in a meadow on the slopes of Haleakala overlooking the south side of Maui. She flew us over the west Maui mountains, deep valleys, wateralls, coffee plantations, sugar cane fields, rainforests and the spectacular sights atop the dormant volcano Haleakala. We saw sights you'd never see from the ground. Flying over Maui was a true delight for us. Thank you, Anna!
Ok, I like mountains and the outdoors. Due to limited time and logistics, I opted to do a helicopter tour. Although I would still go for trekking and camping as I want to feel, smell, and not just see the outdoors, I figured, riding a helicopter can still be something you can do once in a lifetime right? And why not do it in Hawaii! And ride I did. We chose the Maui Spectacular as this will bring you around the whole of Maui for a few more bucks. And it did not disappoint! It was a visual feast! We chose the A-Star chopper. Couldn't complain, I think it offered enough unobstructed views. I don't think you need to pay extra for Eco-Star for the extra windows to get the full experience. Make sure to wear dark clothes to get better pictures. You don't want your pictures with your reflection on it would you? Too bad we just saw a glimpse of the Haleakala Crater. We didn't fly over it. It was probably my mistake for not bringing it up with our pilot who, by the way, did well by engaging us with Hawaii's history and culture the whole time. Good thing the weather was perfect. And the ride was smooth. Don't expect to see lava flows as these are only seen at the Big Island. Good thing I did the tour. It made my visit to Maui more worthwhile.
I hatook us places you just dove done other hellicopter tours. But after this I know what I was missing. Took the West Maui Mts tour oh my,our pilot Emery was a wonderful host.He took us places you don't see on the ground, and more infomation than you can absorb.
If you want to see Maui the right way, take a heli tour!!! We had 5 days on Maui, and we wanted to see everything possible and maximize our vacation. We booked with Blue Hawaiian and we are thrilled that we did! The heli tour was no doubt the highlight of our trip. Our pilot, Tim, was awesome! He was a great pilot, and he provided some even better commentary. We had never been in a helicopter before, and any apprehension we had was quickly forgotten once we saw the obvious skills of our pilot. The views were amazing, I can only imagine taking a tour during whale season! I would highly recommend Blue Hawaiian and our pilot Tim. The price is well worth the unforgettable memories!
Absolutely the best thing we did during our visit to Maui. You tend to think "it's a whole lot of money," but by the time the trip is over you'll know you made the right choice. One can never experience the amazing diversity of terrain by driving around in a car. And, this is the only way to see the rainforest and waterfalls on the east end of the island. Blue Hawaiian's Eco-Star helecopter is the best. Spacious and quiet, no other aircraft can provide such excellent views to everyone on board.
This was the most fantastic thing I have ever done on a holiday. My wife and I did the tour around Kauai for our anniversary. We were lucky enough to sit in the front seat but even if not, the pilot rotates so every can see. From check-in to touchdown, it was all first class. Jordan weighed us to make sure we weren't underestimating ourselves ;). We watched a safety video and then took the van to the take-off area. Pilot Brandon was simply superb. He has a great narrative voice and an excellent knowledge of the island. He spun around inside a crater and we saw so many waterfalls. We bought the DVD and that was the only disappointing aspect of the trip. The quality was not very good most of the time due to the sun reflecting on the camera. The camera needs to rotate to stay out of the sun and a blueray would have been awesome.
My wife and I booked this excursion on our cruise ship figuring this is the best way to see lava flows due to a short 6 hours in Hilo. We were not disappointed! After checking our bags and a short safety briefing, we were in the air. The clouds, usually found on the north east side of the big island, broke long enough for our pilot (Ethan) to find breakouts and vents, and to our surprise, a filling caldera of fresh spouting lava at the top of Kilauea. We were treated to an hour of flying low over the lava fields and rift zone as well as a waterfall near the port of Hilo. Ethan did an excellent job of telling us what we were seeing and did all he could to get us close for on board pictures. Best part was the video of our flight made available for purchase when we got back to the airport. Try to get an afternoon flight as the sun is best low in the sky to see breakouts and flows. Also, you can only bring a camera on the helicopter, so leave you hats, backpacks, food and drink in the car or check them with the reception staff. Enjoy the flight. We saw things our friends couldn't see as they drove to and from the lava flows.
My wife and I took the Hana/Haleakala tour on their ECO-Star helicopter, and the conditions were bright and clear for our tour. This was the most expensive thing we did on Maui ($260/person for the 50 minute tour), and while it was very enjoyable, if I had it to do over again I would at least do things differently. The biggest thing I was looking for on the tour was to see waterfalls that would otherwise not be accessible. I knew the waterfalls were less active in October, but I was surprised by how little we saw on the trip, maybe only 4 or 5 falls on the tour. This is no fault of Blue Hawaiian, but I would only do this again in the spring when the falls are more active. My other recommendation is to take a tour of an area you don't plan to see from the ground. We had been to Haleakala for sunrise two days earlier, then stayed to hike around afterward, and two days later we drove the road to Hana. I wish we had taken a different tour, maybe the West Maui/Molokai since we did not visit either of those areas. I think I would have felt better about the expense if I was seeing something new. All that said, we had absolutely no complaints about the tour itself. The ECO-Star is all windows everywhere, and even from my seat in the middle of the back row, I had no problems seeing everything. Our pilot Eric was very professional, gave us a smooth ride, and gave good information during the trip. You can ask questions throughout the flight through a microphone and headphones that everyone has access to. You can also purchase a DVD of your flight ($25) that shows what you saw, and includes all the conversation during the flight. I recommend this, as we saw a couple of things on the video that we didn't remember seeing live.
