Mics didn’t work so the ride was silent the whole time, as we couldn’t speak or ask questions. We also wanted to buy the video recording just to learn that the recording didn’t work. Pilot was however very knowledgeable, but the experience was somewhat like a normal plane ride. Beautiful scenery but didn’t get close enough to really see much.
Alright. The Circle of Fire and Waterfalls Helicopter Tour from Hilo is an amazing experience. It's a great way to look at the volcano, and learn all the facts about the eruption that happened fairly recently. They circle over all the key parts of the eruption and an amazing view. If you do it, I'd highly recommend the "front of the helicopter" seats, as they ofter lots of photo experiences. The windows on the EcoStar are essentially covering the copter, offering great viewing. In the end, this is an amazing experience if you are going to Hawai’i. It's a thing you'd do once though, not every time you go.
Scratch this off the Bucket List! Had a great view from one of two very wide read windows - do not advise paying extra for front seat views, as you will have to look over the helo's console unless you get the right side seat (pilot has the left one). Got a day with reasonably clear weather in the rainy season so we took in the 2018 eruption area, including a great circling look of one of the most active calderas, miles of the over run land & residential areas. Also a nice side trip along the very lush waterfall strewn Windward side of the Big Island. Great commentary from our former active duty Marine pilot.
Best experience of our entire trip. We can’t recommend GREG (the pilot) and the waterfalls tour enough. Spectacular views, experience, professionalism and bang for your buck.
Great visit from start to finish. The team puts safety first. The pilot was knowledgeable and provided great commentary on Hilo and the volcanoes/eruption history. He also took us to see some waterfalls that are inaccessible by roads. And this is literally the only way to see the active lava at the moment. A definite highlight of any Big Island trip.
Great overview of The Big Islands Volcanoes. The pilot was extremely knowledgeable and made the ride fun. If you can book directly through Blue Helicopter Tours it is a much better deal- we discovered that we paid an additional $100 per ticket than the folks sitting next to us because we booked through a tour company.
Being able to see the volcano cauldron from the air is incredible. We had hiked down to the lava in the cauldron in the Volcano National Park a few days earlier so it gave an even deeper understanding of the volcanos on the Big Island. The pilot explained so much about the various volcano openings and circled around the larger ones so you could see into each from different angles. The flight was super smooth and highly recommended for an awesome experience.
Wesley was an excellent pilot and took us over craters and inactive volcanoes for views we would have never been able to see on foot. Not to mention, he paired the music with the scenery to make for an exceptional experience. While there were no active volcanoes and lava flowing, it was still a spectacular site. You can tell Wesley absolutely loves what he does. He and the rest of the crew make sure everyone feels safe and is able to relax and enjoy the ride. Absolutely recommend if you're on the Big Island.
First of all we booked one day and the weather did not cooperate and we were rained out after a short 10 minute flight, luckily we had more days on the big island and were able to find available seats the next day. I can’t say enough about the staff and their willingness to be accommodating it was absolutely way more than great customer service! Both pilots we encountered were knowledgeable, professional and first and foremost made sure we were safe and enjoyed the experience. The flight itself was spectacular! Again we had the good fortune of an active volcano so we could see the action and to top it off the weather on day two was perfect!!!!!!!!! we saw both Volcano peaks and a bonus waterfall fly by!!!!!!!!!! As I said staff and pilots are top notch definitely worth the price of admission!!!!!!
A tour of Kauai you'll never forget! We did this as a shore excursion via Norwegian Cruiseline. A must-do!
I always said that if I ever got to go to Hawaii I was going to take a helicopter tour. When I started checking into it I decided it was too expensive. When we got there we had decided to take a boat tour to see the Napoli Coast. We started getting concerned with the roughness of the water so at the last minute instead of booking the boat tour we decided to suck it up and spend the money for the helicopter tour. Wow! Are we glad we did. We aren't the person that spend much money on doing things. In fact we would have never been to Hawaii if someone wouldn't have given us this trip. So for us to say to spend the money to do it, that means a whole lot. I get motion sick easy. I took dramamine and wore my wrist band. Never once did I even feel a little bad. We saw so much more than the brochure said we would. Pretty much saw the entire island. It was so beautiful and learned so much by the narration from our pilot. Summarize this is two words .. . . DO IT!!!!
I had wanted to do a helicopter tour the minute I knew my family would be traveling to Kauai. But I couldn't convince the rest of my clan to join me; they all voted for a boat ride to see the Na Pali coast. So in the interest of family unity, I gave up and signed on with them. But then the boat ride was canceled. Whew! I immediately called Blue Hawaiian and made a reservation for myself and my husband who was skeptical that it would be as good as a boat ride. I couldn't convince the rest of the crew to join us and it was definitely their loss as my husband now admits he was wrong. We chose Blue Hawaiian after guide book said its aircraft had the best viewing space. And we were lucky--we got front row seats, next to our woman pilot Beth. (It apparently helps to be short and small to get those seats). The check-in staff was efficient and the safety briefing thorough. The ride was breathtaking; the only way to see the beauty of the entire island from the huge inland waterfalls to the Na Pali Coast (and it's mind-boggling 1-mile 8-inch hiking trail). One tip: On making our reservations, the company advised us to wear dark clothes to avoid the glare; we're glad we did, but I discovered belatedly in my iPhone photos that my light-colored iPhone case reflected the glare in many photos. So if you can, wear dark clothes and use a dark camera case as well.
Greg was our pilot. Neither my wife nor I had ever done a helicopter ride, but Greg put us at ease immediately. He engaged with each passenger and obviously loves his work. It was a 55 minute tour of absolutely spectacular beauty...places you could never see without flying over them. The headphones provided appropriate music, muffled the engine noise, and enabled us to ask Greg questions. Worth every penny. Our Hawaii trip highlight. We WILL be back to Kauai, our favorite island.
This was my 2nd time in a helicopter, the first being when I was 8, and this took my breath away. Seeing Kauai from the sky and being able to really get close to some of the canyons, craters and waterfalls was something that you don't experience everyday. Scotty Gee was our pilot and was funny, knowledgable and always engaging. He was always talking to people individually and making sure they're ok and enjoying themselves and seeing points of interest. Great tour and great experience.
Well worth the money to get to see the entire island from above. You already spent a lot of travel time and money to get to Kauai, to me it is well worth the money for this tour. The company is excellent to deal with, the pilot was wonderful, and the entire operation is very safe and professional. I personally would not go with any other company than Blue Hawaiian.
