We did the Big Island Spectacular Tour on the EcoStar. This is a MUST!. Recommendation - Do not Wait until the End of your Visit to schedule your tour because the weather can be fickle. You want to have the option to reschedule if the weather forces cancellation. It happened to us and we were able to schedule for the next day. Blue Hawaiian was great. They offered several options - no strings. Toshi was our pilot - he did a great job.
We did the Big Island Spectacular with the stop at a waterfall. The tour was one of the highlights of our time on the Big Island. We were able to see Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Mauna Kea, Waipio Valley, live lava flows, and spectacular coast scenery. We landed at a waterfall and had time to wade in a stream, take pictures, and relax. The pilot volunteered to take pictures of everyone at the waterfall, and also with the helicopter. We had a chance to chat with the other passengers and picked up some helpful tips on what to do and what not to do with our remaining time on the Big Island. Definitely wear dark clothes, nothing light or bright. The gentleman in front of me (there were 6 plus the pilot on our trip) wore a bright blue shirt, and there were many pictures I took that had a reflection of his shirt. I think it might be worth paying more to be on a flight with fewer people. The seating is done by computer, and is by weight. Couples sit together. I had a window seat, but my boyfriend did not, and his view was definitely impeded. If you were a short person and stuck in one of the middle seats, I think you would be very disappointed. That being said, we felt it was definitely worth our time and money to do this helicopter tour!
This is a pricey deal, but worth it if you ever want to see a live volcano from above. Our pilot, Chris, gave an excellent presentation and answered all questions. The flight was smooth and comfortable. Headsets are provided which allow you to communicate with the pilot and provides musical interludes to dampen the helicopter noise.
Be sure to take the two hour tour. It is worth all the month and no motion sickness We saw hot lava and the Hilo side of the island. Along with the water falls.the pilot and crew that helped you in and out of the helicopter were great.
I will say this .Do not go by the Pictures they have on the website.BLOWN UP.I wanted to experience a front seat helicopter ride and thats what exactly what I got .Dont expect to see erupting volcanos and Lava all over the place. But it was still a really COOL EXPERIENCE.
The 45 min ride give you a good overview of the island and the sights are beautiful. Really worthwhile
Absolute greatness! We experienced the rain forest, lava and lush beautiful ocean side. We flew over waterfalls...simply unbelievable! It was worth every single penny and MORE!!!
My wife is afraid to fly, yet I was able to get her and our 6 year old son on the "Big Island Spectacular" tour. We saw lava bubbling in a crater, amazing waterfalls and had an incredible time. Our pilot, Shane was great. Not only did he give us a safe, smooth ride. But he was very knowledgeable about the area. I would definitely recommend this tour.
if possible, everyone should take this tour at least once. the views are spectacular, better than the post cards! takes you around the entire island
My stomach is a weak one but I decided to take on for the team because my young daughter wanted to go...at one point I thought oh boy here it comes....but I was able to hold off...they picked us at the hotel which was nice. Our pilot was great. I forgot her name.. Sorry.,. She was very nice and very knowledge of the island. told us where dog the bounty hunter lived..geez what else could ask for. But she made sure we all had good views of nice scenery. Going over PEARL....I never forget that view...if I got back I will do this again if my stomach will let me.
What an amazing way to see such a beautiful island! Blue Hawaiian staff and our pilot were extremely professional and focused on us enjoying our journey in the safest way possible. My husband, kids and I all loved this experience. Highly recommend.
Breathtakingly spectacular! It was our first helicopter flight and we couldn't have picked a better place or company to do it with. Our pilot Joff was so informative and friendly and made the whole experience just that little bit more special. There isn't a whole lot I can write as it's just one of those things you MUST experience in your lifetime. Kauai stole a piece of my heart from the sky!
All in all this was a great experience. The pilot, staff and scenery was exceptional. Our pilot, Gary, was not only highly skilled & conscientious of safety, but also gave wonderful commentary. Clearly he enjoys his work. ?. And the music during the flight was well choreographed. We only have two complaints. We requested front row seats and was assured we would get them because we were the first two of six to book this flight. To our surprise we were put in the rear of the helicopter, which normally would not have been a bad thing, because the views are still amazing due to all the large windows. But, they have a policy that everybody must wear dark clothes because if you wear bright colors it reflects very poorly off the glass which ruins your pictures and video. So who do they put up front ? A guy wearing a bright neon green shirt.. 90% of my pictures and video are ruined because they let this very important rule slide. Almost every one has a big green blur through it. If the owners of this company read this please make sure your staff makes sure this important rule is upheld as it makes for very disappointing photos. Once again a great experience but if they put some dude up front who wears disco clothing remind them of their policy. Don't take this review in a negative way though as we would do this trip again. It was amazing. Kauai is spectacular!! Everyone professional they even call day before to say not to wear bright colors interferes with pictures in the helicopter Scott the pilot was a great guide!
If you want to take a helicopter trip...this is the island and the company to book thru. Book your flight early in your visit...just in case weather delays your flight. Brody...is the best!!! He shares his love of the island and makes your flight unique and memorable. We had the best weather of the week so we saw the highest peaks and the beautiful pristine Napali Coast. Learned a lot about the island that helped us plan our week of sightseeing on the ground. Be sure to purchase the DVD to take home and show friends/family. As Brody said...anytime you have a stressful day or need a new perspective play the DVD and remember the aloha spirit you felt as you experienced all that Kauai has to offer.
