With this tour you get to see parts of the island that is only visible by air. Their equipment is state of art with cameras music and a/c. It was my first helicopter tour and I must say we had a great time it was a smooth flight and our pilot instantly made us feel comfortable. He was very knowledgeable about the island and all the locations he showed us, and did a great job at circling the helicopter so everyone could get a good view. We saw so many waterfalls and beautiful coastlines. It was a little cloudy and misty that day but we still wound up with some great photos. We purchased the video of our tour which was a great memento to have, the quality was fantastic. They exceeded my expectations in all areas. I can’t wait to do this again the next time I am in Hawaii.
The windows give a really bad glare. Most of our pictures have our reflected faces in them. Go with a helicopter company that does the door less option.
This was by far our favorite activity of our trip to Kauai. The facility is top notch: air conditioned lobby, water and coffee refreshments, clean bathrooms, comfortable seating, and a small gift shop. The staff were very friendly and we appreciated how seriously they take their jobs. They strictly enforce their policy of no selfie sticks or go pro sticks, which we appreciated as people next to us wanted to use them. They give you loaner black shirts if you aren't wearing dark clothing. We flew in an EcoStar which provided fantastic views of the island. The pilot was very knowledgeable and provided a great flight. We purchased the thumb drive video of the flight for $40 afterwards. A few tips: it gets hot in the helicopter especially if seated in the sun so do not wear a sweatshirt or jacket. Also, I wish I wore those lightweight black gloves with touchscreen ability so my hands didn't show up in the reflection of a few of my pictures taken on my phone (one of the reasons we bought the video of the flight!). Highly recommend this with Blue Hawaiian - well worth the price!
Best thing to do on your first couple days on island. Especially if this is your first visit. Gives you a great overview of the entire island. We actually decided to not do the drive to the canyon this trip as the views we had from the helicopter were amazing. Felt safe and thoroughly educated about the island. Can't recommend this tour company higher.
This is the best way to really see the island of Kauai. It is spectacular and our pilot was wonderful and informative!
If there's anything that deserves a 6th star, it's Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. We took a 55 minute trip around the island. It was by far the most spectacular activity we've had on the island or perhaps anywhere for that matter. Marty was our pilot and he was outstanding. Be prepared to pay as this is an expensive trip, but do it as it was well worth the cost of admission. Highly recommended!
Our 7am departure on the Eco-Star for the 2 hour Big Island spectacular has been the highlight of our trip. Our pilot Shane was friendly and knowledgeable. He knew when to provide commentary and when to let the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen speak for itself. Not only were conditions perfect, we also had a great view of an active lava lake. Nothing could prepare us for the breathtaking scenery as we entered the majestic valleys with their waterfalls cascading 1km down the side. The soundtrack that accompanied the flight was perfectly selected by Shane and the evocative and transformative power of music added another dimension to our experience. Thanks to everyone at Blue Hawaiian for the highlight of our holiday.
This was very cool! Get up close to a volcano and we were able to view the lava! You fly over the island and it gives you an outstanding appreciation of the diverse nature of this young island and how it was formed and the growing rhat is still occuring. Sure it costs to use a chopper; if you want a holistic view big island with full commentary, get on this! Thanks to our pilot 'Jason'!
Very professional set up including pick up and airport transfer it offers a pleasant alternative to see the island in a spectacular way at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and knowledgable pilot who provided ongoing interesting comment about the sites and some history during the flight. Highly recommended. Includes a free DVD of all the islands from a helicopter perspective.
We booked the tour through Expedia and found the desk easily. Friendly and professional people there. Everything from briefing to handling was absolutely fine. We departed into southerly direction and flew over the active volcano which was really awesome. Our Pilot, Coleen, told us everything you need to know and was very entertaining. Thanks for this. What we soon realized was that our copter was always the one at the highest altitude of all. There were "Blue Hawaiian" helicoptes which were way lower than we've been all the time. When I asked Coleen if there would be a chance to proceed at a lower altitude to enable picture-taking closer to where the lava flows into the water, she said that's not possible. So I was a little disappointed cause I'd expected the flight to be close enough to the flowing lava to be able to take breathtaking pictures of the site. But at an altitude of 1600 ft above sea level wie were just too far away from that. I've used a 105mm zoom-objektive and in the end I can only estimate on the pics. Sorry, this was nothing.
A truly unforgettable experience. You have to spend some time going through the safety briefing, and are then asked to put on dark tshirts so as to minimise screen reflection in photographs. My tip would be to enjoy the ride and not take your own photos - the whole flight is videoed from internal and external cameras, and for $40 they will sell you a professionally edited copy on a usb stick; this is your actual flight with the commentary from your pilot and the recorded comments of your fellow passengers, excellent value, buy it. The helicopter had six passengers plus pilot with a bubble cabin so everyone had a good view. My wife did not join me as she has some mobility issues and in the past has had problems climbing into helicopters - she should have come, it was one easy step up with grab points and assistance by the ground staff where necessary. The flight itself lasted just under an hour, spectacular unspoilt scenery, close up views of places which would be inaccessible by other means, and an excellent commentary. If you visit Kauai this is a must, not cheap but worth every cent. A true vacation highlight, my fellow passengers were still high on the minibus back to our hotel, I recommend it with out hesitation.
This was awesome. Great narration along the ride to VNP and back over beautiful scenery to Hilo Airport. Wear dark clothing to reduce glare on ride and your pictures/videos. Looking forward to coming back when the flows are really going strong!
We had done the Big island Spectacular 2 years ago and loved it. We decided to come back to Big Island for a special birthday celebration and wanted to do it again because they have now added on an optional waterfall landing. I booked a few weeks in advance to make sure our group of 5 could be accommodated, and it was really nice because we had the helicopter to ourselves. Our pilot Greg Oldham was very informative and was able to tell us about changes in the lava flow over the previous weeks and was very good at showing us what was new. He knew the flow well enough to identify when a lava tube was collapsing which made for a spectacular sight. Our previous trip had been good but the lava flow is much more evident this year. We were also able to fly over the lava flowing into the sea which felt much safer than the boats which looked to be too close to the flow for safety and comfort. After that we flew over the Hilo area then took in the Waipio valley and sea cliffs. We realised that we were descending and suddenly we were landing in the middle of nowhere next to a stunning waterfall. We were all speechless with wonder at the whole experience. We had plenty time to look around and take photos and Greg was very helpful at taking pictures of the whole group and also in advising on using our phone technology effectively. After that we saw a group of waterfalls that are among the highest in the world and then flew across the top of the island and back to the heliport. It was the best excursion we have ever had anywhere in the world, and although expensive it is worth every penny for the experience of a lifetime.
We had originally booked with Genesis Helicopter because of the no door helicopter tour, but that got cancelled so we booked with Blue Hawaiian. Their Helicopters look very modern and clean. They are very safety conscious and did a nice job at being very professional throughout the process. Our pilot Julie was very helpful in identifying landmarks and making sure that she rotated the helicopter for anything that anyone would want to photograph. She spotted some whales down below as well. We were glad we ended up going with Blue Hawaiian. I sat in the middle and was still able to use my good Canon camera to get outstanding photos.
I did not go on this trip myself but I listened to my family rave about it. They loved it. The pilot was very informative, the weather was beautiful and they came back very well informed on activities and island life. The pictures they took and the video that they purchased from the tour place were amazing. My grandchildren loved the trou as well.
