The best time ever.
It was fantastic, great pilot (Brandon) and the organization is well run. Thank you
Very good audio visual tour! Good interaction between the pilot Wesley and ourselves, and he was courteous, polite and happy to answer any questions we had. The flight was very comfortable and entertaining, we would recommend it to anyone and come back again if we were ever here again.
Great experience. Pilot was very knowledgeable. Able to see the redness of the flow. Perhaps an improvement would be that the video could be in high-def
Wes was the best and is a mad dog! :) 10/10 would recommend!
wes is a legend and needs a raise
Wes is a mad dog.
Westley was awesome! Best heli-tour guide there is! Very funny and knowledgable
We really enjoyed our flight today and our pilot, Greg O was wonderful to fly with. We were thrilled to see the volcanos, lava and sea entry, rain forests, even a slylight over the lave fields. Then to come to the waterfalls and wet side of the island was breathtaking. Thank you for a lifetime memory and experience we'll never forget. We loved our landing by the waterfall and felt special getting to step out into such a tropical paradise for a few minutes. Aloha from the Lassen's.
Had to reschedule twice but everyone was so pleasant and helpful. We were so excited to end our trip with this experience. Thank you!!!
(visited October 2014) In two hours you will fly over active volcanoes and lava flows, lush valleys with 2600 foot waterfalls, and everything in between. The staff and pilots are professional, courteous, and entertaining.
Greg G was our pilot and what a great tour of the island. Worth well more than the price of the tour. You cannot see much of what you see on this tour any other way. If we did not have a completely booked week, I would go on another tour.
We flew into Hilo at 5am and experienced rainy, cloudy, windy conditions all morning long. Knowing that we had a helicopter tour scheduled out of the Waikoloa heliport, I called Blue Hawaiian to ask if the tours were still a go for that day due to the terrible rainy weather in Hilo. I was told that there was no way of knowing until 15 minutes prior to departure. I accepted this answer not knowing that not a SINGLE tour departed for their tour prior to my phone call. I understand weather is unpredictable, but I feel that if not a single tour had taken off, and with a 80% chance of rain during my scheduled tour, Blue Hawaiian could have at least had the decency to let me know that there was a high probability that the tour would be cancelled; and, at the very least, offered to reschedule the tour for a later date. Instead, over half of our first day on our vacation was wasted by needlessly driving from Hilo-Waikoloa and back to Hilo (4 hours roundtrip in pouring rain!) due to a cancelled flight. A complete bummer! Luckily, our rescheduled trip took off without a hitch! My honest opinion about this helicopter tour: I was not all that impressed... perhaps I am just hard to impress? I just had high expectations for a flight, especially at $400/pp. We flew in an eco-star, which had large panoramic windows all around..that was nice...except there were 7 paying customers plus the pilot crammed like sardines into this helicopter. I was seated in the back row, middle seat, and had two people to my right who took up the entire right side window, and one person (my partner, luckily) to my left, who I had to rely on to take pictures/videos. Needless to say, the people in the back middle seats are not given the same $400 experience as everyone else and should either have the option to fly at a reduced rate, or at least be compensated by getting the video for free... which leads me to my next gripe: Blue Hawaiian records the entire trip with 4 high-def cameras. It's even advertised on their website as: "Whether you choose one of our Eco-Stars or sleek, customized A-Stars, you’ll enjoy: 4-camera digital DVD in-flight recording..." that's partially why I chose them. I was under the impression that the video was included in the tour price.. except, it isn't! If you want the video, it'll cost an additional $40. This is especially disappointing to those who are stuck in one of the back row middle seats. Not only are they are given mediocre seats, and miss out on a good portion of the actual flight due to obstructed views. They also have to pay an additional $40 for a video that they aren't even featured in (there's only one interior camera, and it is focused on the front row only!) just to get the full experience that they paid top dollar for! Unfortunately, it's very evident that Blue Hawaiian focuses more on turning a maximum profit than they do customer satisfaction, and that is very, very disappointing. In regards to the actual ride itself, I did enjoy the parts that I could see. Our pilot Jason was very personable and knowledgable. We started the trip by flying over the lava flows of Kona, and right through Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa en route to VNP. We were given a brief history of the lava flow, as well as quite a bit of information about the area we flew over. All very good information! We were also able to fly over Halemaumau Crater, but due to FAA regulations it was at an extremely high altitude. My favorite part of the entire trip was actually flying over the Puuoo crater and viewing the lava flow into the ocean... that was honestly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! After VNP, we stopped at the Hilo airport to refuel - that was something that wasn't advertised, and I wish they would have told us at booking, because it added an additional 20-25 minutes to the tour time, which we weren't expecting.. but then again, I would rather be safe than sorry! After departing Hilo, we headed up the Hamakua coast, and flew into one of the Valleys. All the waterfalls were spectacular, but honestly paled in comparison to the Jack Harter doors off helicopter tour we did in Kauai. One thing that did separate Blue Hawaiian from Jack Harter was the fact that Blue Hawaiian played music during the tour. It really added a little bit of flair, especially when flying through the valleys. It was very tranquil and serene. Overall, I rate this experience as average at best. The staff at the Waikoloa heliport were all VERY friendly and top-notch... we just had a series of unfortunate events (the cancellation of the first flight, as well as mediocre seating arrangements) to rate this VERY EXPENSIVE trip any higher. If I were to do another helicopter tour on the Big Island, I would totally skip the "Big Island Spectacular" and just go for one of the tours over VNP.
very very good
Brandon you are good at flying a helicopter. Love the extra time spent at Sacred Falls! An amazing time! Would recommend to anyone!! ...
