My wife and I did the West Maui tour on our honeymoon. We loved it. Her father was a helicopter pilot during Vietnam and we wanted to do a helicopter ride for us, but also to tell him about it, because he would like to hear about our ride. We wanted to pick the best and Blue Hawaiin is the best. It was a great ride and experience!!! We did the Eco-helicopter ride because the Eco has more windows than the standard helicopter. We sat in the co-pilot's seats (when you book ask to sit in the front...they say they seat by weight, but if you ask they sort of overlook that in my opinion). There was a bit of a rocky point during our ride, but our pilot handled it well. He knew a lot about the island and had a sense of humor. He also is a helicopter veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars so we knew he could handle whatever was thrown at us in the air - which made us safe and made our experience a better one, when tie-ing in her father's past.
I've seen too many episodes of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" where there is an obligatory helipcopter date each season. So of course, this was one of the things I had to do my first time in Hawaii. I scheduled it for my first wedding anniversary. I was not disappointed. My guidebook recommended the West Maui and Molokai tour, so that's what we did. Great guide. He really knew his stuff. The views were breathtaking. Words will not do it justice. There were headphones for asking questions (and our pilot knew how to answer them), but I just wanted to breathe it all in and not talk. It was also fairly easy to take photos. At one point, another passenger asked the pilot to loop around so she could get one more photo, and he gladly obliged.
I’ll reiterate the sentiments of many others here by stating that a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour is a pretty neat experience. We were scheduled to take the Hana/Haleakala tour, but inclement weather resulted in the staff suggesting the West Maui/Molokai tour as an alternative. We were very pleased with the results. We had spent the previous two days touring Haleakala NP and driving the Hana Highway so we were interested in seeing it from the air, but accessing remote, roadless canyons in West Maui and seeing the incredible cliffs and waterfalls of Molokai was a spectacular opportunity to witness things we never would have experienced otherwise. The Eco-Star helicopters are very nice and the informative, friendly pilot possessed a great wry wit. My wife and seven year old daughter sat right up front, and while I was in the back there were enough windows throughout the helicopter that I had terrific views of the surroundings and was able to take some good photos. Despite usually declining the various add-ons by tour companies, we purchased the video as a keepsake and have already enjoyed reviewing our tour back at home. Although they were offering special prices during our visit, these tours are still quite expensive and the irony that our 50-minute helicopter ride was only slightly less costly than our 9-hour flight (each-way) from the mainland US was not lost on us. That said, if you have a hearty stomach and a little extra disposable cash you will be well rewarded with the experience and memories of a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour.
The pilot did a very good job of making our flight smooth. We did the West Maui trip and it was lovely to see this part of the island. All the staff were very friendly.
We had a great time on this tour (we did the complete island). The only problem we had was one of the microphones (ours unfortunately) stopped working right after takeoff. The tour was fantastic though and the pilot was great. Saw many views and places that I would never see any other way.
You can't get a much better location than Hawaii to do a helicopter tour but this was just spectacular. The pilot and intro crew were all very nice and helpful. The pilot was knowledgable about the entire trip and pointed out the entire island. I would definitely recommend doing this on your vacation if you can afford it!
Our tour of West Maui and Molokai was breathtaking. The staff was courteous and very pleasant. Our pilot, Eric, was very skilled and a delight. He offered great commentary and had a very good sense of humor. We would definitely recommend Blue Hawaiian to anyone looking for the best in helicopter tours. Thanks Blue!
We took this helicopter tour in Kauai and we loved it. Our pilot Kevin gave us a very explanation of various regions in Kauai, the beautiful waterfalls, the Jurassic park scenes, the beautiful beaches with blue waters and lovely sand, the beautiful coast of Na Pali. The whole tour took about 1 hour. This is the second tour I have taken on a helicopter. I was a bit jittery initially as the copter made it up the mountains. Within a few minutes, I started enjoying the scenery. This is great tour but truly gives an excellent overview of the region. I would recommend this prior to driving anywhere on the island.
We had booked a tour of Haleakala and the south side of the island but it was too cloudy so we agreed to the tour of West Maui and Molokai. I was disappointed but it was still scenic. The staff was very nice. Erik, the pilot, was safe. I wish he would have talked about the Hawiian culture and history. We booked a 45 minute ride and it turned out to be about 60 minutes. This is an expensive attraction but worth doing if you have never done a heli ride in Hawaii. You can also purchase a video of your excursion for $25.
We so enjoyed our trip. our Pilot was awesome. we had a great time. I could have stayed up there all day. will definately do it again. Love Bue Hawaiian Helicopters
We took the Complete Island tour of Maui on their Eco-Star helicopter. It was a 65 minute tour and cost $335 each plus tax. We did this on our first full day in Maui. It was us and two other couples. My wife and I were able to sit next to each other in the back. She was next to the window and I was next to her in the middle. This was the first time that either of us had been in a helicopter. Even though I was in the middle seat, I had a very good view out the windows. As another reviewer said, it was a little unnerving when we went thru a pass in the West Maui Mountain, where the ride was bumpy. Other than that the ride was comfortable and it gave us a very good feel for the island. One of the the highlights was flying over the Road to Hana and seeing the waterfalls and the road itself. Our pilot Glenda was very informative. I was disapointed that we did not go near the Iao Valley or closer to Haleakala, although I have a feeling it was because those areas were close to the airport and the airspace was restricted. When we landed, we purchased a dvd of our ride.
We did the West Maui and Molokai tour in the Ecostar. I was so excited, as I had heard fantastic things about the tour, and I thought it included seeing the Iao needle. As it turned out, we saw a few nice views, but it was of course distant. We did not go to Iao Valley. I will probably never do another helicopter tour--I would rather spend my money (and it was A LOT of money) on something I can really feel and experience--a hike to a waterfall or scenic point, a boat ride, a horseback, etc. It was pretty, but just way too much money for an experience that was just pleasant. Most of the tour was along the coast or over the water, and of course we already saw plenty of water flying to Maui.
My husband and I booked the Maui Spectacular tour in the eco-star for our 10th anniversary. We really enjoyed the views and our pilot Eric H. was very informative and had a great sense of humor. We wanted to kick ourselves after we landed though. When the flight started, our pilot mentioned that he would take requests as long as they were reasonable. There were some falls that we went over too fast to get a good picture. We could have asked to turn for another look and possibly get closer. Don't forget to make a request if you have one. The discription of the flight we took was a little misleading we thought. It says that you land at a ranch and are served refreshments. We landed in the middle of nowhere (with an awesome view) and the only refreshment offered by our pilot was champagne (my husband and I don't drink). We still loved being able to land and getting some great pictures of the views around us. We even took a shot of all of us up there with our pilot and the helicopter in the background.
My wife and I were so excited to go on a helicopter ride when in Maui and Blue Hawaiian didn't dissapoint. The flight was smooth and the views were breathtaking. Our pilot, Nathan, was very knowledgable of the island and offered a wealth of information during the tour. The entire flight was video taped and we decided to purchase the dvd as a souvenir. We did the tour of the entire island and were able to see the lush rainforest, Haleakala Crater, Hana, and many places that are inaccessible by car. Highly Recommended!! Vince and Mary Quakertown, PA
We really enjoyed our helicopter experience. We booked the West Maui and Molokai tour. It was very enjoyable, the ride was quiet and smooth and our pilot made rainbows over the ocean with our helicopter blades. The ride was over all to quickly, but I loved it. Next time, I want to take a volcano tour! Higly recommend this tou operator. They are very professional and the helicopters were really nice, wich large windows, so everyone has a nice view.
