We decided to do the helicopter tour on this island and we loved it!!!!!!! When you get there, they weigh you in. (If you weigh over 270 you have to purchase an extra seat) Then they take you over to a safety video. 7min long. Then off to your helicopter. You can purchase a video for $25 after the ride and it shows you and your party in the helicopter and everything you see. The people sitting in the front will get most of the camera action. You cannot choose your seats as they are assigned by weight. I suggest going through them directly and book. It will save you about $80. If your start time says 12:30, you will start an hour later because of weigh in and safety stuff. Make sure to wear dark colored shirt, because the windows in the helicopter Will have the color bounce back on you. They have extra shirts there to borrow or for sale if you forget. It's def worth every penny.
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, very professional. We were greeted as we arrived. Safety briefing next, answered all questions about the flight. Pilot was wonderful, took us around the island, into the canyons, along the coastline. Detailed explanation on all trails, rivers, waterfalls, and the history of the island. I took over 200 pictures. If you're a photographer, this is the tour for you.
This is a very professional run company that will show you a very beautiful and informative tour of the island of Kauai. A lot of the places you will see can only be viewed from a helicopter. One piece of advice I would give would be to take an airsick pill if your prone to motion sickness. Our ride was a bit bumpy.
This is a must do for anyone who visits Kauai. The access to pristine and untouched natural wonders is unparalleled. The pilot was extremely knowledgable and had extensive experience flying. The whole experience from arrival at the heliport to touch down and getting a high def DVD of the flight was first class.
My husband, and a couple friends did this 55 min tour around the island. We did this during their rainy season, so I was a little apprehensive about the weather conditions and being in a helicopter. No worries ! Our Pilot was very skilled, knew the island and where to go and when to go. We flew around several waterfalls, and even had pouring down rain, hitting the windshield of the helicopter, but not big deal....the rain didn't last for more than a minute, and we were out of it. A couple times you could feel the copter "move", and did give my stomach a little jolt, but it was over quickly. It was a beautiful tour and was happy we did it. Would highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tours. We had done one with this company last year, on Kona. Equally awesome !
Aloha from a different viewpoint Spectacular two hours spent seeing this amazing island from a different perspective. If you can, splurge and take the Eco-star out of Waikoloa. Marco, our pilot, was personable, informed and a talented lead. The entire staff was dedicated to the safety, comfort and enjoyment of the customer. Nicely done So varied, the topography and sights...it's cool beginning in the airid lunar-like fields and traveling over Coastline, tropical rainforests...on and on. The lush waterfalls on the Hamakua coast were gorgeous. The volcano with its steaming vents, active flow and bubbling cauldron amazing to witness! A dynamic trip - with lighting and weather conditions ever changing it will appear different every trip. All in all, a memory maker / if you can, GO!
We booked the island spectacular tour. Were picked up at our resort (5 people) and driven out to heliport. Welcomed with fresh coffee ( 6 am). We booked the ecostar helicopter for its size. The ground crew gave us a video to explain safety info and compact life jackets. Our pilot was Karl who broke the ice and any fears right from the get go with both his humour and technical information. The music started ( which must have taken a lot of thought as it was appropriate for each second of our flight) and we took off. Saw lava flows. Mountains. Cliffs and amazing valleys with too many water falls to count. It's expensive to do...but worth every dime! Note: spend the money on the video of your flight. .memories.
This was an amazing tour. We took the 45 minute tour. They picked us up from the hotel. I was going to the rental car center by the airport after the tour and they did take me there while driving my wife and son back to the hotel.
Wow...what an amazing experience!!! This was our 1st helicopter ride and it was truly magical! The copter ride itself was smooth, our pilot Jen was funny and very informative and our 3 yr old enjoyed it too (so smooth she fell asleep the last 10 min). The whole thing was top notch and would highly recommend to anyone visiting beautiful Oahu
Everything about this trip met my expectations - friendly staff, professional, comfortable atmosphere, safe environment. I had read that others weren't thrilled about the DVD from some companies, but the DVD footage was awesome. I ended up buying it. I'd highly recommend Blue Hawaiian. It made the trip!
This was the only company that did not charge full price for two seats for a person over 250 pounds. They charged a seat and a 1/2. My husband and I had two seats between us so we both got a side window. The views would have been fine for the middle two seats in the back, but picture taking would have been difficult. The people in front had great views (two chairs next to pilot - lower than back seats so that all can see) It was raining when we started so visibility in the front was worse than the sides. We got good pics in back. Front people did not. It did clear when we got to the West side of the island. We got great pics. There was glare even though they made us wear black shirts if we didn't come with dark clothes. I have a lot of arm glare in my pics (I edited it out) Pros good for larger people comfortable aircraft (never felt in danger) Nice pilot, very knowledgeable Beautiful! You really get a great view of parts of the island that most people never see. Company was professional and has a very nice waiting area. (If you get there really early before the first flight, you may have to wait for someone to let you in) Tea, water and coffee was available. Nice restrooms. We bought the video. It was worth it. They took a nice picture of us in front of the helicopter. Reasonable price Cons shorter ride than other companies (it was still pretty darn good) no open air helicopters glare (it will happen) Would not be good in pouring rain. It was fine with mix of drizzle and sun.
Extremely Professional and very considerate. I wasn't sure how I was going to do since I get motion sickness very easily but, I had to see more of this beautiful island. I did get a little dizzy but it was SOOOO worth it! You must take part of this beautiful tour! You could possibly see hikers hiking in the mountains to your right and whales swimming in the beautiful ocean to your left as you encounter beautiful rainbows continuously all throughout your journey. It's truly an unforgettable experience.
With only 2 days on Kauai, we asked friends what we should see and do. Their reply was to take a helicopter flight. Great! Not my favourite mode of transport. Because my husband really wanted to do this, I agreed. We chose Blue Hawaiian and were not disappointed. Their reputation and professionalism is unsurpassed. After the safety briefing, we met our pilot and boarded the helicopter. He explained where we would be flying and gave us a superb description as well a great view for all passengers. Most of Kauai is inaccessible and the best way to see it is from the air. This was definitely a highlight and I will happily do it again.
For the second time we have flown with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. 15 years ago on the Big Island, this time Kauai. So glad we took trip. Not cheap but worth every penny. Professional pilot; great aircraft; good safety and trip prep before flight. Very nice video available for purchase after flight. The views during the flight and the background info from the pilot made this the highlight of our trip. We were very fortunate as we had minimal clouds and rain - very unpredictable. Recommend earlier flights as clouds build up more later in day - per locals.
We truly loved our Blue Hawaiian helicopter experience, it is the only way to see the entire island, and we saw it ALL, waterfall after waterfall, the Na Pali coast, the Kauai Crater, and much much more. We got so close to the waterfalls and mountains that we felt like we could reach out and touch them ... but our amazing pilot Barrette had us feeling completely safe and sound the entire trip. Now the caveat, we were told we could get a video of our adventure so we didn't take as many pictures and we were excited to pay almost any premium they would charge, but when we got back to base the quality of the video was AWFUL. Only to find out that we had the only helicopter in their fleet not retrofitted with the better cameras. It was so bad that there was no way I would pay a dime for it ... they should have given it to us for free so we could at least do a little advertising to our friends. We really wanted to bring a memory home with us but not that piece of garbage. 5 stars for the experience and 0 stars for the video, averages out to 3. Our recommendation, do it, just make sure you get a chopper with better video system.
