I admit upfront the cost for this 2 hour flight on the Big Island is pricey & one I balked at but reluctantly gave into. Thank God I did! This helicopter tour was THE BEST thing I did while in Hawaii and the most moving vacation experience for me - ever! We had a beautiful sunny morning for our flight. Wearing Bose noise-canceling headsets, we were able to communicate with our pilot and co-passengers while in flight. Leaving from the west side of the island, the first half of our flight provided aerial views of lava flows and fiery red & smoking craters. As awesome as these views were, our pilot said his favorite part was yet to come. We landed in Hilo to refuel and take a bathroom break. Back onboard we flew over the ocean and were lucky enough to view whales swimming and surfacing below. We arrived at the rainforest side of the island and flew into the first valley. Music, befitting the experience, greatly enhanced the views we began to see. Anticipation filled me as we approached the first crest. Topping the crest, it was like the whole world opened up. It was awe-inspiring! Lush greenery, deep gorges and cascading waterfalls greeted me. The cresting experience happened over and over again as we flew onward. Not until I was actually there, listening to the accompanying music on my headset with all my senses engaged, did the FULL impact of the moment hit me. I will never forget this experience and how wonderful it made me feel. At the end of the flight, my husband told our pilot he was nearly in tears as we flew over the rainforest. I had no idea he was as deeply moved by the experience as I was until he made that comment. All I can say is, the Blue Hawaiian helicopter flight on the Big Island is well worth the cost. Thanks for the memory.
Decided to use this helicopter tour upon recommendation of our Pleasant Holidays representative. She grew up in Kauai and had taken the tour several times. The people working at Blue Hawaiian Helicopters were very friendly and professional. The pilot, Geoff, was personable and knowledgeable of the island. Plus he was a very safe pilot. This was a first time helicopter ride for both my husband and me. Will most definitely try again should the opportunity arise.
Took a two hour helicopter flight from Kona. Booked through our resort. Got picked up early from our resort by bus, pick up was included in the flight price, as was return by bus. Pleasant driver and staff the whole way through the boarding procedure. Clean and tidy building and surrounds where the helicopters are based. Was able to have secure storage for our personal items while on the flight. A beautiful calm day to do the flight in one of the bigger machines which takes 6 passengers. Views of the active volcano were totally amazing and our pilot made sure there was ample photo shooting time while flying over volcano and surrounding area. The scenic portion of the flight was also worth seeing, big lush valleys with amazing waterfalls to boot. Would recommend up grading to the bigger machine and definitely pleased to have taken this trip. One tip, take the earliest flight available in mornings as less chance of cloud and wind as some of trip not accessible with cloud for obvious reasons!!
They do an extremely thorough tour, even going into the island's volcano callers, past the Na Pali cliff, and next to the Jurassic Park waterfall. After the flight, you can buy a video of the trip that you just took.
The stars were aligned for our ride with Blue Hawaiian over the Big Island. We took the 2 hour ride which isn't cheap but the weather was perfect and it was a thrilling trip. Greg, our pilot, was wonderful and we were very appreciative of his piloting skills as we hovered at a 45 degree angle over the very active Mt. Kilauea. It's always a bit of a lottery for getting good weather on the whole of the Big Island so if it works out then you'll remember it as one of the highlights of your trip, if not THE highlight.
A fantastic 45min trip over the lava fields and active lava flows with waterfalls on the way back to Hilo airport. We were in an eco star helicopter which is well worth the extra cost. Our pilot Tim was very knowledgeable. Was approx 1.5hr drive to Hilo airport from Waikoloa beach resort. Parking at Hilo airport was only $7. Highly recommend
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters live up to their good reputation. My experience exceeded expectations. Pilot Brody was a fantastic guide. The only thing that I would have loved was "no rain" but at 3 pm in the afternoon in this climate you're likely to get a little. At least we had sunshine for the spectacular western and north shore views. I wish I had taken this trip early in my visit. The perspective it gave was absolutely brilliant. Well worth the money!
Upon our visit to Oahu it was recommended by friends to take advantage of the opportunity to see the island from above. We pre booked our flights on line by visiting the easy to use and informative website. You can book for any island you are visiting and there are a multitude of different tours. The staff at Blue Hawaiian is very professional and courteous. They made certain that you are aware of all of the rules, guidelines and safety regulations. Adam our pilot was really informative and friendly and a good time was had by all. Big Recommend, a must do.
Wonderful way to experience the beauty of the islands. Very professionally run operation. Our pilot Brody was very knowledgeable about the island.
This is a very professional group of people with safety first and foremost. Due to weather our first planned flight was cancelled and rescheduled for the following day. Yes, we did get to go on the rescheduled day. If you think Kauai is beautiful from the ground, trying viewing the numerous waterfalls and canyons from the air. I highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. Our pilot, Goeff, grew up in Kauai and was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Though our pilot was safe, informative and friendly, I'm not sure this is worth the money. Kauai is beautiful from the air, but equally from a boat or automobile.
This is a late review, but here goes. My husband and I went to Kauai for our honeymoon and I'm so glad we decided to go on the helicopter tour. There is just so much of Kauai that you can't possibly see by foot or car (the Jurassic Park waterfall, for example). The windows not he helicopter are nice and big so you get really nice pictures of the landscape. It is an expensive experience, but I thought it was worth it. Our tour guide was very nice and informative. The entire trip is recorded and you have the option of buying the dvd as a keepsake. I highly recommend this excursion to anyone who is visiting Kauai for the first time.
Amazing views of lush waterfalls and valleys! Very comfortable and professional. I highly recommend!
My wife and I, and my in-laws were in Kona, HI to celebrate my 48th birthday, our upcoming 10 year wedding anniversary in July, and my in-laws 45th wedding anniversary. We decided to splurge for a helicopter tour and after doing our due diligence online, we decided upon Blue Hawaiian Helicopters and the Big Island Spectacular. We could not have been happier with the choice we made and the pilot, Ian, the company paired us up with. We also opted for the newer helicopter model for the tour, The Eco-Star, and once again, we made the right choice- it was impressive, roomy and allowed for great views. Back to our pilot, Ian- he was "Phenomenal" We couldn't have asked for a more professional, personable and knowledgeable pilot. He put us all at ease right from take-off by telling us what to expect over the course of the next 2 hours and his music soundtrack that was piped into our headphones seemed like it was timed perfectly with the changing landscape and topography. We saw active lava flow in several different spots and witnessed a forest being burned down and devastated because it happened to be in the flow path of the lava. We landed in Hilo for fuel and to stretch our legs and we couldn't wait to get back to the flight because we knew Ian had more in store for us. Well, needless to say we were not disappointed- he took us along the Hilo coastline before going inland to view majestic waterfalls. Unfortunately, the trip had to come to an end, but not before Ian flew us over expansive fields with grazing cattle and other farm animals. Although it was expensive, it was well worth the money and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the Big Island. Not sure if you can request a pilot, but if you can, ask for Ian- you won't be disappointed.
We took the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour over Kauai for my BD!! The trip was FANTASTIC and the views are absolutely unbelievable. The help we rode in was the same one they filmed Jurassic World in and we flew over where Jurassic park was filmed! We toured much of the island of Kauai and its the only way to see much of the island! We saw a volcano crater, the shoreline, the vegetation and even a whale!!!! Captain Joffrey was a fantastic pilot and the pilots pick their own music. He played typical Hawaiian music, music from Jurassic Park and even our wedding song "Its a wonderful world" from Israel K. This trip was better than flying over the Grand Canyon!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
