Kauai scenic helicopter flight
Kauai - Lihue

This would have to be the highlight of my time in Hawaii. Brodie our pilot took us all over the mountain ranges and told all about his heritage and the heritage of the island. The scenic view was amazing. A must do.

WOW!
Kauai - Lihue

Our pilot (Shay) was fantastic! for a helicopter full of first-timers he was calm, informative, and a pleasure to be with. This was our first time and we saw sights that people simply cannot see from the ground. We HIGHLY recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tours.

A must do while visiting Kauai!!!
Kauai - Lihue

Our helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian and specifically pilot Geoffrey was excellent. They made sure safety was the number 1 priority. Pilot Geoffrey is a former Army helicopter pilot and he made sure we felt safe. He was very professional and gave us a wonderful tour with matching background music which I appreciated. Our tour came with the video of our helicopter ride. I highly recommend you purchase the video to keep as a souvenir. You get to relive the actual tour with the same conversations you had while on flight. You have to see Kauai and specifically the Napali Coast by air. There are other companies but I highly recommend Blue Hawaiian.

Top highlight of our 36 day cruise
Kauai - Lihue

We arrived at 6:30 and the ship has to go through the whole US customs ordeal. We were scheduled to disembark at 9:00 because our helicopter tour is scheduled for pickup at 10:00. Pick up was on time and then it was a quick 15 minute trip over to the airport. There are about four different helicopter tour franchises at the airport. Tom had scoped them all out a month or two before we departed on our adventure and settled on Kauai Eco Adventure flight = Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, mainly because they seemed to be the most professional with the latest state of the art craft that was specifically designed (big windows) for sightseeing. A second reason also was the ship also used Blue Hawaiian for their ship-sponsored tours. Interesting $ and logistic points here (for those interested): • The ship tour cost was $270 PP. • Our prepaid purchase ticket cost (we obtained via the internet from BH) was $210. • The cost if you walked up to the BH facility with no reservation (and they have an opening) is $235. • BH has six Helicopters. • Again we pre-purchased our reservation which carried a 24 hr. cancelation policy, plus they are very sensitive with issues should the ship arrival become a problem. • The other helicopter services are run out of tents with porta potties next to the airport fence, do not have a large number of craft, and those craft appear to be much older and not really designed (set up) for sightseeing. (Tom’s observation, only). • The BH group has a large, organized, modern and comfortable building. • You should not wear any bright clothing as such can reflect on the windows and ruin your pictures. • We took our standard High Definition video camera, and the Go Pro camera, but we had to remove the hand grip handle from the Go Pro (Even though the underwater handle we use on the Go Pro is small) as BH has standard rules about the size or any form of attachment to hand held cameras). • The Blue Hawaiian helicopters are air-conditioned, thus you have no issues with cabin temperature. • The Blue Hawaiian helicopters have inflatable float bags along their skids, should they need to be inflated for a water landing. • The pilot narrates the whole time, with each passenger (there were six of us on board) have earphones listening to his narration and Hawaiian musical background. Each passenger has a microphone where he/she can ask questions . • There are two cameras on the helicopter that captures the inside of the cabin and a forward view. A standard or high definition DVD video with sound is available for sale ($25) of your actual flight. The video is initially on a stick where the terminal people than quickly edit it and show parts of it in the waiting area (covers about 15minutes of the flight). It looks to be well worth it as the pilot’s narrative is included! We did not purchase one as our two video cameras ran almost continuously for most of the 50-minute flight. We viewed so much but it is almost impossible to find all the words to even start to try to explain what we viewed / experienced in our 50-minute flight around and over this beautiful island and its rugged interior. Neither of us have ever been on a helicopter before, but we both (even Tom) found this part of our overall adventure to be close to the top highlight of our trip. Outside temperature was a very comfortable 75F, with mostly clear skies, other than the very top of the extinct volcano (Mt. Waialeale) which is capped at the very top with a rain cloud most of the time. They say this part of the island gets over 400 inches of rain a year. 90% of this island is impassable to the average tourist other than via a helicopter tour. The flight over the remote Napali beaches was fantastic, followed by the flight into Waimea Canyon and its beautiful waterfalls, but the topper was the flight right up the curf in the volcano rim (where the lava use to pour out about 5 million years ago) and up towards the top of Mt Waialeale. It was weird to see these water falls that were litterly coming right off the tops of the mountain as there appeared to be no source other than the actual ongoing rain up there. It was obvious why so many movies have been made on this island (Pilot pointed out these locations)! We took a lot of video, but honestly, this is the type of adventure (flight) you may need to take more than once, as the sensory overload of our 50-minute flight overwhelmed us. One couple said that they were so happy that they had taken this flight over Kauai AFTER they had taken a similar flight over the Big Island, as the Kauai experience was so much more dramatic, and the reverse order may have proven disappointing to them on the big island.

Amazing experience all the way around
Kauai - Lihue

Blue Hawaiian was top notch all the way! Very professional staff, extremely smooth helicopters and our pilot, Shay, was awesome. It was our family of four (kids 7 & 10) first time in a helicopter. We were nervous but they completely put us at ease. After the debriefing we felt prepared and the ride was awe inspiring. This was our favorite activity while in Kauai!

Spectacular views
Kauai - Lihue

We had been told to take this ride if this was the only one that we ever took in our lives. This person was correct. The scenery was fantastic. The company was so professional and safety conscientious. They also made a flight video of our trip which was certainly a plus. We highly recommend Blue Hawaiian.

Best Way to See Kauai
Kauai - Lihue

We recently went on a helicopter tour of Kauai in Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. From the online reservation process to checking in on the day of the flight and to the flight itself, this was a fantastic experience. We booked on line and received a discount off the full fare. We then needed to change our date and I received a reply and a change in date within 15 minutes of my email. We arrived at the appointed time for our tour and were greeted by very courteous staff who gave us very clear instructions about what would take place that morning. I observed a staff member handle a customer who was acting very rudely in a very professional manner. This same staff member conducted the safety briefing and tour orientation without a hint of what he just had to deal with - the disgruntled customer was present for the orientation and safety briefing. Our pilot, Geoffrey, is a native of the island and he gave an excellent tour. It is very obvious that he enjoys his work and that he takes a great deal of pride in how he represents the company and his state. This was the coolest thing we have ever done when traveling. This is truly the best way to see the island as much of it is inaccessible by car. The views are beautiful and often breathtaking. Kauai is truly the garden island. It is best to keep in mind that this is a sightseeing tour as opposed to a photography tour. Try not, as hard as it may be, to not see the sights on this tour through your camera. It is inevitable that you will get some glare from the aircraft windows on your pictures. This is impossible to avoid, but can be minimized by following Blue Hawaiian's advice to wear dark clothing. We found it best to wear something short sleeved instead of sleeveless, and without a logo. They do have dark shirts to borrow at no cost if you forget, but you may have to compromise on the size. The helicopter is spacious and air conditioned. No need for a jacket. Seating is based on your weight and that of the others on the tour. The helicopter seats 7 including the pilot. It is not necessary to sit in the front to get a good view. Those sitting in the 2 middle seats in the back may have to lean over the person next to them a bit, but the windows are large enough to get a good view even from these seats. Our pilot did a very good job of rotating the helicopter so that passengers on both sides could get equal viewing time of the main sights. Passengers are given microphones for 2-way communication and you can request that the pilot turn the helicopter so that you can get a view of something that may be on the opposite side of the aircraft. They are very accommodating in that way as long as it is safe to honor the request. Blue Hawaiian offers a video, for purchase, of your flight. It will feature pictures of you and the other passengers in the helicopter and includes audio of the pilot's commentary and that of the passengers (so be careful what you may say as it will be included on the audio). The video is available on DVD, BlueRay, and on USB in HD. The USB is priced slightly higher than the other 2 options. We purchased the USB version and it was worth it. It is very well done and makes it worth focusing on the tour as it happens rather than focusing so much on taking pictures. Finally, it is made known up front that you will receive a confirmation email. Be sure to check this over for the correct date and time of your tour and contact Blue Hawaiian immediately if there are discrepancies noted. This will prevent any problems from occurring on the date of your tour. Also, be aware that camera cases, iPads (used as cameras), purses and other large items are not permitted. There are storage lockers available in the office or you can store these things in your car if you drove to the heliport. You are permitted to bring a water bottle on board the flight. But since it is climate controlled, you may not not need it. All in all, we were very satisfied with the tour we had with Blue Hawaiian and would recommend them without hesitation to anyone considering a helicopter tour of Kauai!

Best Way To See Kauai
Kauai - Lihue

My advice would be to take this tour as early as possible so that you can get a lay of the land. And of course the helicopter takes you to places you otherwise will not be able to go. The tour was well organised, our pilot professional and you are encouraged to ask questions and make comments. It was a pleasant flight without any problems and I can safely recommend this tour.

Must do!
Kauai - Lihue

I was told to go early in the morning and early in your trip. I did just that and the weather turned bad and they cancelled our flight 5 min before takeoff. They were quick in re-scheduling for two days later. When the day came, it was GREAT! beautiful sights with island music in your headphones. Waterfalls, rainbows, canyons and blue water. Get ready for a memorable trip! Spend the $$ and do it! We bought the video after for $40. good times.

Volcano tour
Big Island - Waikoloa

Pilot was knowledgeable. This was a great overview of how volcanic activity formed the Hawaiian Island chain. At this time, helicopter tours are the only way to see actual lava flowing since it is not visible at the visitor center. Price was high end but they did pick up & return us to our hotel.

Great Ride!
Big Island - Waikoloa

This was my first helicopter ride. I am not a fan of heights. Staff was very professional and not pushy but lock in your reservations quick. We called then drove over within 1 hour and most spots were sold out. You have to take the two-hour ride from this location if you want to see volcano due to distance. No other way to experience and take in the island than by air! Prices where high but well worth it. Our pilot Eric was very professional and informative. I felt very safe knowing he had many prior years of flying in previous jobs. Would recommend this place to everyone.

Best way to see the Island of O'ahu
Oahu - Honolulu

This was my first time in a helicopter and was an amazing experience. Staff made sure that you feel completely safe the entire time. Pilot Julie was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and made sure the flight was fun, informative and interactive for everyone. Would highly recommend this company to any visitors to the island of O'ahu. Definitely a great way to see the island and very reasonably priced also.
