helicopter tours are one of those splurges that are totally worth it. the pilot was fantastic and the scenery was spectacular. we flew over the active volcano and you could see the river of lava flowing down the side of the volcano.
Have never been to Hawaii before or been on a helicopter ride but I can say this was one of the highlights of my life. Of course the island of Kauai is stunningly beautiful but you can't see most of it unless you take the helicopter ride. Booking the ride was easy with super friendly, personable staff. When you arrive they have a pleasant waiting room/gift shop and then they give you a thorough safety briefing. Our pilot Brodi is native Hawaiian and his knowledge of and reverence for the Island made the trip wonderful. He answered all our questions and even added a little personal information about his youth on the island. At no time did anyone on the chopper feel uncomfortable or scared so those of you who might be afraid of helicopters don't miss this view of Kauai. He takes a video during the trip that contains what you see, what he says with our questions too and has views of the passengers reactions as they see the incredible sights of Kauai. It is well worth the purchase price.
This flight is definitely worth the money you have to fork out. The scenery you get to experience during the flight is incredible and will take your breath away. As a first time visitor to Kauai It was good to be able to hear the history of the island and see some of the main features i wasn't able to get to during the trip. Its a super easy process to check in and you are well looked after before, during and after the flight!
Debated doing taking the tour as it is quite expensive. So glad we did as it was amazing! Hard to describe just how breathtaking the views are. Marty, the pilot, did a great job of narrating the tour but didn't talk so much that you couldn't enjoy the views. Hats off to Marty! The staff and crew were very courteous and professional. This is a well run operation. We had requested front seats for two of our family and they said they would try but no promises as it goes by weight. They did get the front seats where the views are incredible. Two of us were in the back seats and we were still able to see everything. Truly one of those experiences you will remember for lifetime!!
There's no other way to experience the actual breathtaking beauty of Oahu than on a helicopter tour of the Island. We had an amazing experience with Blue Hawaiian that we will remember for a lifetime! They have a very gracious welcome center, and your excitement starts to build while waiting for your flight. The safety briefing was very professional. Our helicopter was so spacious and clean, with huge windows that made for easy viewing. The pilot, Jeremy, had customized music for his tour and his narration was interesting and informative, not over done, so you could soak in all the beauty that you were witnessing. We flew along the coastlines, into valleys and over extinct volcano craters and saw beautiful waterfalls and rainbows. So hard to put this in words that justify how special this was. A MUST DO!
My wife and I spent 9 days in Kauai and this was by far our favorite activity that we did. The staff was outstanding and the views were fantastic. It was our first time on a helicopter and the ride was so smooth. This is a must do!
We had a great flight to view the flowing lava. Our pilot was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. I'm so glad we splurged on this adventure.
We were a little disappointed with Hilo but knew it was just a stopping point to see the waterfalls and volcano. We drove to Kilauea park in the morning and explored everything there (steam vents, lava tubes, trails, Crater chain road and viewing points) which was educational. However, this helicopter tour was the highlight of our trip and a really cool way to see the action at the volcano as well as private waterfalls that blow Akaka and Rainbow Falls out of the water. The helicopters are new and well air conditioned and our pilot Wesley was fantastic. He gave a lot of information as well as being personable, humorous and getting us close to all of the action. We were lucky with our timing as the lava was flowing into the ocean which was pretty cool. We loved seeing actual glowing molten lava as opposed to dry craters that you see from the ground. Then he took us to the source of the lava flow where we could see the molten lava, it looked like a stage show with smoke machines turned to full blast! It was quite spectacular and moving. After the volcano we got to see some beautiful waterfalls. Another bonus was the full circle and double rainbows which Wesley went out of his way to catch/find for us as I said I loved them. I highly recommend booking this tour, you won't be disappointed. This was my 10th different helicopter tour (I've done others at various places worldwide). Wear dark colors like they advise to not spoil other peoples photos.
Blue Hawaiian is a fantastic company, very professional. The heliport area was modern and clean and the staff all extremely friendly. The trip itself was so amazing. We had already been around the island by catamaran and car and ending our trip with the helicopter tour summarized our vacation perfectly. We got to see things that are unreachable except by air and many locals have never seen. Geof, our pilot, an Army helicopter veteran was excellent, providing a smooth ride and lot of interesting facts along the way. He is also a native of the island and you could hear his genuine love of it in his voice.
Went on the two hour tour with a stop at the waterfall. The pilot was really great and gave us lots of info during the flight. Seeing the lava flow into the ocean was simply amazing. The pilot gave both sides of the helicopter two fly-bys to see it. Also got fly-bys on both sides for the active pu'u. The fly through of the valley was gorgeous, but almost too short and was over before I realized it (we had put a telephoto lens on our big camera to get some closeups of the coast and didn't swap it fast enough to shoot in the valley). Would have been nice to have a second fly through. Added on the stop at the waterfall. A little pricey, but so beautiful. You stop at the bottom of a huge waterfall. It had just rained that morning, so all of the waterfalls were very full. I would give this a 5, except for the price. If you can, drive to Hilo and pay less with the same company. But overall, I definitely recommend Blue Hawaiian. Be aware that where you sit may matter. There are only 4 window seats on the Eco. Two people sit in the middle in the back. You can still see a lot from those seats, but the window seats are definitely better. Being on the right side is good for the flight down to the lava. But the left side is better for the waterfalls. The second half of the trip, the right windows looked out on the open ocean.
I had high expectations having done several helicopter rides in many other cities so may be a tad jaded in my review. It's certainly scenic and you will get some pretty shots, but with a tiny speck of lava there wasn’t much to see on this one and looking back I should have simply done a Volcano Park hike and ditched the helicopter ride. I assumed I would see it all in the sky but alas it was not to be. Aside from the tiny lava, a small speck of waterfalls and view of the ocean (a similar view can be had flying in to the island), it felt lackluster. Still, Ethan our pilot, was very pleasant and informative and answered all our questions and we had a few on the lavas/eruptions/zoning etc. I requested the front seats which are not guaranteed as its due to weight restriction, but was certainly chuffed to have my request granted. It isn’t cheap and if you are going to take flight you certainly should do this in the AM so you can have enough time for the 40 minute drive to the Volcano national park where you can take a hike, learn much more about the various Volcanos and have lunch/drinks while there.
WOW.... WOW... This was the best helicopter tour I have been on, we were collected from our hotel by courtesy bus and then off to the airport, the staff are friendly nothing was a bother. The pilots knowledge is amazing.. The entire flight is breath taking.... If you want to see Hawaii this is the way to do it... I highly recommend this tour, you won't be disappointed... There was 5 of us on this tour and we had the helicopter to ourselves. Simply amazing!!!
I absolutely loved this helicopter tour. I highly recommend it as a way to see every part of the island of Kauai. All the staff was very professional and our pilot Miguel was great (and funny!). It is expensive but I am very happy we decided to do it.
Unfortunately we missed seeing the volcanoes because of cloud cover. Instead we went to the seven valleys and saw some amazing views. Copter driver was very knowledgeable and fun. Other than missing the volcanoes this was an excellent experience.
The noise makers were well cared for, maintained, everyone was safety conscious, crews were experienced, were well acquainted with great viewing locations as well as gentle and smooth on the controls. This is another "must" on your list. Plan ahead, be on time, and have an enjoyable non-whiteknuckle experience. Enjoy, Aloha. ??
