We did this as our shore excursion for this island and it was a good decision. I takes awhile to get picked up, driven by shuttle to the office where you have to watch a safety video and get some instructions, put on a "blackout" t- shirt and strap on a neon floatation pillow, then get driven out to the helicopter pad at the airport. They load the helicopter by weight and I was hoping for a seat that I could take pics from. I got my wish and got some really great shots from above. The pilot was experienced and had an interesting narrative during our almost one hour tour of the island from above. Jurassic Park's famous helicopter scene where they are flying toward the double waterfalls was filmed here as well as scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Fantasy Island. We flew in and out of craters, atop non active volcanoes, saw farms and cattle on top of some of them, grazing happily on clover, and I got a shot of a half raimbow in the water. Unusual. This was truly a great adventure and I'd recommend it to anyone of any age.
I highly recommend splurging the money on this helicopter ride. The views are breath-taking and it is a good way to view the Northern part of Kauai. We saw the Napali Coast, some awesome waterfalls, and lots of lush mountain scenery. Jurassic Park was also filmed around here...and you see where parts of Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed! I felt a little nauseous, but it was definitely worth the ride. It is a once in a lifetime experience! Our pilot (which I forget his name) is from Alaska and he was very funny!
Ten stars! One of the best experiences of my life. Jimmy's narration was fantastic, and the soundtrack added to the flight beautifully. I want to go again right now!
This was our first helicopter ride and all can say is wow!! It's definitely worth the money. You get to see a side of the island that's only available from the air. Our pilot Vincent was very good and knowledgeable about all aspects of the island. They play music through the headset which adds to the experience. If you can splurge a little I would highly recommend them.
Our pilot, Vince, was amazing. Extremely professional, knowledgeable, charming and entertaining. Will return next year for another fantastic flight with Vince at Blue Hawaiian.
We flew with Blue Hawaiian in early February on their standard Kauai tour. We booked online before arriving and took the tour on our second day on Kauai. We found the pickup location to be a bit difficult to find, its on an interior facing retail space inside a two story retail/office complex. There was a quick safety video and orientation, then we were off to the van to be taken to the Helipad. Seats are pre-assigned. We had the front and it was probably the best views but the tightest fit. Joeff (sp?) was our pilot and did a good job touring the island. The bulk of the visit was 15 minutes in Wiemea Canton and 30 minutes inside the Napali Coast and some interior waterfalls. I wish I had done some additional research on tours, as I would have enjoyed spending more time going around the island and seeing the coastline, beaches, the lighthouse, and the coastline near Kapaa. Overall, the tour was nice and the company/pilot were top notch, but I'm not sure it was the breathtaking experience I was expecting. I found similar views from the end of the Canyon's road later on in the trip, and on some of the hiking available on the island.
I went on a 55-minute Blue Hawaiian tour in Kauai with my husband & son (age 15). I've been on helicopter tours in Alaska in the past, and wanted to see Kauai from above. I was one of the two passengers in the front seat, and I was not disappointed by the phenomenal view and the professionalism of the pilot. However, I must give this tour a mixed review because I strongly feel that the seats in the back/left are compromised and not at all comparable in value to the front seats and back/right seats. My son had the left/back window seat, and my husband sat next to him (left/center in the back). The tour proceeds clockwise around the island. So, the two passengers on the left in the back seat are already at a decided disadvantage. The pilot does make an effort to turn the helicopter around to give direct views out the left side on occasion, but it was not consistent. And, for the passenger on the left/center (with no direct window), the experience is not that magical. Views are obstructed. There's a lot of neck-stretching to try to see what everyone else is oohing & aahing at, etc. I could sense this during the flight as I turned around in excitement to gauge the reaction of my husband & son. It was clear they were not privy to the same experience as mine. My husband was definitely disappointed. I think those seats should be meaningfully less expensive than the others. I felt badly that my view out the front & right was so magnificent, and their's simply was not. Bottom line, if I could be assured a seat in front or on the right, I think the tour is worth it. Otherwise, it just is not worth the VERY expensive price of a ticket.
Very professional and organized. Worth every dollar. We covered the whole island while the pilot narrated interesting facts about what we saw.
We really loved our helicopter tour. Blue Hawaiian is a touch higher priced, but when you get to the heliport and see the other outfits copters, it becomes obvious BH is worth it. Their Ecostar copters are much nicer than the others. A first class business all the way. Tour & narration were great. Its Kauai, so sometimes you may get clouds/drizzle, but it makes for better waterfalls and rainbows. I almost cried when I saw the beauty os Mt Waialeale. BH is worth the few extra bucks
We visited Kauai this past March and stayed at the Hyatt. When we made our reservation, we were asked if we wanted to book any attractions before getting there. This was a very smart move especially if you are going to only be there for a few days. The Hyatt took care of our reservation which ended up costing less through them than through Expedia. There are several helicopter services to choose from HOWEVER different types of helicopters are used. Blue Hawaiian is top notch and was even recommended on TripAdvisor by a pilot that flew in Kauai. I suggest booking an early flight in the day as the weather tends to be nicer in the morning. Also, book it for one of the first days you are there because if the weather is bad and you cannot fly that day, you can rebook and not lose out on seeing the beautiful island by air. There are so many things you can't see on the ground or appreciate the magnitude of beauty unless you are in the air. We were fortunate enough to see whales playing in the ocean as well. You felt very safe in their helicopters and started with a safety video. Our pilot was so nice and answered all questions that people asked. Don't miss out on this island highlight.
Words can not describe the beauty you see on this island. You MUST experience it yourself. Our pilot Geoffrey was very informative and fantastic pilot. My husband and I will be taking another flight on our next trip !!!! Totally worth the monies spent
Beautiful scenery was everywhere we turned! Our pilot, Nathan, was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed his commentary. We went from green valleys, to cliffs, to waterfalls, to spotting whales in the ocean. So breathtaking! I was a little apprehensive about riding in a helicopter because I've heard from others that they've gotten nauseous. My mind was quickly put to rest after we took off, and we experienced a smooth ride. The helicopter itself is very comfortable, and almost entirely all windows, so good views abound. I saw other tour company's helicopters, and they don't have near the amount of window space that Blue Hawaiian does. Blue Hawaiian is a little more expensive but definitely worth it!
After carefully researching helicopter tours on the Big Island of Hawaii, we chose to take the fire and water tour with Blue Hawaii. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every cent. It started with a very professional ground crew who were all the very nice to us and concerned with our safety. Our pilot, Tim, was very cordial and extremely knowledgeable about the area. We had 5 in our party and everyone had a great view out of the helicopter. I would recommend this tour which was out of Hilo to anyone that wanted an up close view of the Kilauea volcano eruption which can no longer be reached by car since the Chain of Craters road was covered by lava a few years back.
Thought the trip on the big Island was amazing. This one was so much better. Totally fabulous. What a trip. Vincent was extremely professional, fun and very knowledgeable. Bryan well ....... what can we say. An asset to your Company. Thank you all
My husband and I went on this tour in early March 2013. I was rather apprehensive about it since I have a fear of heights, but really if you just focus on the beautiful scenery and listen to the soothing music, it helps tremendously. Nathan was our pilot and hearing that he flew Black Hawks for 13 years also put my mind at ease. This really is the best island for a helicopter tour and it's well worth the expense. Nathan shared interesting facts and history as we flew. The view as as amazing as you would imagine. I do have a few complaints which prevent me from giving this experience 5 stars: When you get to their office, there is no sign in the parking lot and we were quite unsure we were in the right place in spite of our GPS's instructions. Even when we began walking around the shopping center, it took us awhile to spot their office. Better signs would really help! Once we found it, we found that the office was very disorganized. People who were waiting for their flights milled about with people who had just come off a flight and were waiting for their videos. There were two counters and no signs indicating which one to go to for check in and no one welcoming us or pointing the way. It was crowded and the outdoor bathrooms were crowded and not very nice. I think a better location would be more suitable. Because their office is not at the airport, you have to take a shuttle with other customers to the airport and back. This ends up taking more time out of your day. On our trip there were 5 full helicopters departing at once which led to some confusion as they got everyone organized. They seem to have that part down pretty well though and the wait was only a few moments. I was disappointed that i didn't get to see whales or mountain goats on our tour, though many people do and or course that is a matter of luck. There were a couple of whales which some people in the helicopter were able to see, but I couldn't see them from where I was sitting. I was really thinking we would see Hanalei Bay and Princeville, and I was looking forward to that since I knew we would not be driving there on this visit, but the pilot turned inland right before we got there so we didn't get to see those areas. The beaches that we did get to see were breathtaking. The glare from the helicopter windows is even more of a problem than I expected after reading about it in our travel book. It caused us to have to expend a tremendous amount of energy adjusting camera angles to try to defeat the glare. That caused me to miss seeing other things. I still lost about half of my pictures due to glare even though I have a very nice camera. A doors off tour would eliminate that problem and I might work up my courage to try that next time! In spite of those problems, I found it to be a very spiritual experience, marveling at the creation on this beautiful island!
