we thought this would be the best way to have a look around the island and were not disappointed! The safety was great, the check in was easy in fact the whole experience was first class. the pilot was a bit of a hard man and my wife was pleased to learn he had over 22 years experience flying Black Hawk Army helicopters. i had a look at other companies but this one looked the best and i am sure it is. A must do!
A very professional operation and we felt very safe. There's nothing like seeing a place from a helicopter. Our pilot, Jason, was knowledgeable and could answer every question we had, including the amount of rainfall Hilo gets annually. We've been to Hawaii several times, and finally took the helicopter tour. So glad we did.
Amazing views from the air on the Hawaiian Spectacular tour. Pilot Greg was great - providing interesting commentary and answering questions along the way.
We did The Big Island Spectacular in the Ecostar; our pilot was Ian. It was a great experience. But let's start by setting expectations. First, you will not get to choose where you sit. Seats are assigned by weight to balance the aircraft. And yes, they weigh you. The view from the front is indeed much better. If you get bent because you end up in the seat behind the pilot where I was assigned, you will have wasted your money. Just relax. It is still a great trip. Second, this isn't Joe and the Volcano. You will probably see flowing lava, but it might be different than you imagined. It is still amazing to see. I found Ian to be an engaging guide and a terrific pilot. From the air, you can see how the island was formed and still is being changed by volcanic activity. Seeing lava in the caldera was amazing. Watching trees in flames from the flow was as well. But the Kohala cliffs were the most moving to me. Incredibly beautiful. My wife and I both were teary-eyed. Yes the price is steep. And there is no guarantee you will get the best seat. And sometimes people (and company websites) exaggerate with grand hyperbole; a friend described this excursion to me as "life-changing." Even so, this trip fully met our very high expectations. We bought the video of our flight and it was well worth the money. Just do it!
Seeing Big Island special attractions from above is almost a must. There are different tours Blue Hawaiian offers. You can find a trip below 200$ or, if you want to real thrill you go for the big tour for around 490$. And if you still want to have more they now fly you to a 'secret waterfall' where you can't drive or hike to. It's a 20min extra stop there and it's just awesome. And there is more! Beautiful waterfalls (incredible feeling when your pilot hovers in front of a vertical cliff in between two waterfalls), flying in between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea and then heading towards the most fascinating place on Big Island, the Kilauea area! If you want to see the lava lake inside the Halemauma crater or inside Pu'u O'o, only the helicopter can take you there. And the pilots do their best to give you the best views! We felt very comfortable with Blue Hawaiian and we even chose to fly with them a second time from Hilo. A trip we'll never forget!!
Great staff, very accommodating and professional. I was chicken, but they made me feel secured. Julie our helicopter pilot dud a great job of keeping the tour moving, explaining where we were and made sure that we could see Oahu. The island is beautiful, so go see it.
Myself, husband, and teenage son spent most of our trip in Maui but flew into Oahu for one day and did the Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour. Our tour guide was Julie and she was awesome making sure to point out wonderful things on Waikiki beach, including movies and shows (Gilligan's Island & Magnum PI) that had been filmed here, Diamond Head, surfing spots, shrimp and pineapple farms, and beautiful falls. It was breathtaking. I was a little apprehensive because I had been on a very rough boat ride a couple of days prior and got sick, but this ride was very smooth. I had no issues at all and every seat is a good one, although I was really happy that my son got to sit next to Julie and got some amazing photos. Loved this part of our fabulous vacation. Highly recommend it!
After having hired a car and driven around the island, we took the Blue Hawaiian Helicopters tour to see it from above. It was stunning. You get to see so much more that cannot be viewed any other way and our pilot, Adam, was friendly, informative and entertaining. Highly recommended.
This is a splurge but if you can afford it is undoubtedly worth it. Blue Horizon provides an hour long tour of the scenic highlights of Kauai in a small helicopter (7 passengers). The tour guide we had was knowledgeable and observant (he spotted a humpback whale and took us over to follow it (from a respectful distance and height)). He also ensured that everyone in the helicopter had a chance to see whatever sight was on the agenda (there is no concern about figuring out the "best" side). After the flight I had a much better sense of what much of the geography of the island was about. My only regret was that we did not do it at the beginning of our trip rather than the end.
Breathtaking views! Gorgeous scenery and we loved the Enya tunes that played along the way. Thanks for the ride, Miguel! (Attention COSTCO members: you can purchase giftcards for this attraction in Lihue.)
A bit of a splurge, but definitely recommended! Pilot Joff was an amazing guide. I can't speak to how this compares to other helicopter places in Kauai, but a few things about Blue Hawaiian I really enjoyed: - Huge windows on the helicopter: we sat in the front so got even better views, but the windows in the back as well. The plane seats up to 6, and they make sure that at least one person in your party (most were couples) gets a window seat - Very professional: somebody called us the day before to remind us of details, including wearing dark clothing to minimize the glare for photos - Interactive pilot guide: our pilot, Joffrey, is an island local and was great about telling us what we were looking at, giving us recommendations, and pointing out spots where we had gone. - Video for purchase: you can buy a video of your ride for only $25, which is much more reasonable than usual places that have a video/photo that you couldn't get yourself (skydiving, swimming with dolphins, etc) We booked the 9:30 tour because we heard that morning times were best, and it was definitely amazing! The morning clouds had just cleared, the sun was perfect, and we had plenty of time to do some hiking and surfing afterwards.
Absolutely spectacular and Brody was very informative. Well worth a look. Island was really great as weather was fine on our day.
Seeing Kauai by helicopter is a must! Blue Hawaiian was a great experience. The helicopters are new and comfortable and out pilot/tour guide Brody was a great pilot, keeping us smooth and steady against awesome cliff walls. He was also a local with excellent insight and historical knowledge. These aircraft looked much sturdier than those next door at the airport. It was a great experience and I recommend this company if you are planning to see the island this way.
We treated our parents to a Christmas present of a helicopter ride our first day on the island. All the staff we met and encountered were professional, friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable and safe. Our tour guide Miguel made the ride smooth and informative. The views are stunning and a memorable way to see the the island. Easily one of the highlights of our trip! The helicopters are spacious and comfortable, well maintained and made for a stable ride. Our family would highly recommend using Blue Hawaiian for your helicopter experience!
Phenomenal views of the erupting volcanoes, coasts, and breathtaking flight up through the valleys of the big islands. Weather permitting, this will be the highlight of your trip.
