This was my first time in a helicopter and it was amazing. Our pilot was great and the views of the volcanoes and waterfalls were astounding. This truly is the best way to see Big Island.
From beginning to end, our family of 6 was treated with professionalism, enthusiasm and friendly fun attitude. This fantastic experience was heightened by the pilots (Dale) continued efforts to make our flight the best most memorable since this was the first time in a helicopter for all of us.
Many thanks to Rowena and Mikala for making this wonderful experience even better - the front seat was totally awesome. It was worth every penny we paid to see such magnificent views. The lava flows, the valleys and the waterfalls are even more spectacular when flying over them. Thanks Scott for a great ride. I would recommend any person visiting Hawaii take one flight in a helicopter. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters were more than accommodating and provided us with a great service. Ngaere
Scott was fabulous, the scenary and commentary exceptional. Definitely the best way to see the Island. Thanks for the ride!
Took my wife and 10 year old daughter on this tour for Fathers Day, and we had a great time. The pilot, Helicopter Steve, was not only knowledgeable and skilled, he was entertaining as well (lots of silly jokes for my daughter seated next to him). The views were breathtaking and impossible without taking a chopper to see then. We sprung for the ecostar helicopter and aside from being safer, it was very comfortable and afforded the best views even from the backseat. Be aware that seating is based strictly on weight so you may not get a window seat as you hope but that's ok. The DVD of your actual tour they offer at the end is an awesome keepsake as well and I highly recommend it. Try to enjoy the ride instead of obsessing over photos/video, it's a once in a lifetime experience and photos through the windows likely won't be as great as you hope anyway.
As of my tour, there wasn't much you could see from the air. Yes, we saw a little bit of red lava and a couple of waterfalls, but both of these are better in person. Drive yourself to Rainbow and Akaka Falls and you'll have a much better experience. Also, if you're fit, look into hiking to the lava. It's cheaper and gives you a much better opportunity to see what the lava looks like.
My wife and Itook the 3 hour tour on her birthday and it was amazing. Helicopter Steve was a fantastic guide with unlimited knowledge and respect for the Hawaiin culture and history. His sense of humour was dry and perfect. He even got everyone in the helicopter to sing happy birthday to my wife! The dvd was well worth purchasing as this is something that we will never forget. I highly recommend Blue Hawaii Helicopters. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Brett, my adult grandson, and I took this tour with an extraordinary pilot named Scott. I admit, I was nervous about this flight. ( I found out later that Brett was, too.) Scott was friendly, personable, a great narrator, and played really great music. The music was a great distraction for all of us, especially Enya, my favorite. This trip was worth the time, energy and money.; The views were spectacular and Scott made sure that everyone had a chance for photos. By the end of the tour I was feeling great and had decided that I would move to Hilo and become a helicopter pilot! The staff and pilots are excellent and I I would definitely recommend this tour.
What an awesome tour. The views of the volcano and lava flows were spectacular (even though it rained a bit). I highly recommend both the tour and Blue Hawaiian. Our pilot, Scott, was so knowledgeable about the island and the volcano that it was a great learning experience. The ground crew was great and the whole experience was wonderful.
It really is 5 star - but one taken off because of lack of lava flow! Tim was an excellent pilot and guide. He took his time to ensure we all saw everything, and gave a good commentary. Great experience. Thanks - Ian and Mai Young, Almonte, Ontario.
Incredible! Jeremy provided us with a once in a lifetime experience. We are sure to recommend Blue Hawaiian to anyone coming to the islands. Mahalo Nui Loa
My husband and I enjoyed the Big Island Spectacular tour. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and friendly and encouraged participation by asking lots of questions. This was my first time on a helicopter and it was wonderful. Everyone at Blue Hawaiian was very friendly and accommodating the moment we walked in the door. I definitely recommend a tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
We chose the Big Island Spectacular tour from the Waikoloa Heliport on my 57th birthday! A special shout out to our pilot Greg who (even on his "day off") made this adventure the coolest thing ever! This was amazing right from the start. We chose the A-Star version as it was our first helicopter ride ever and did not want to spend even more $$ than we were already paying. While I cannot state if the Eco-Star version would have been worth it, I cannot imagine a better view/experience. The narration by Greg, the soundtrack playing in our headsets, the comfort of the seating, and the views were all impeccable! The first half was great (actually saw lava oozing out of the East Rift of Kilauea!), but the second half (after the refueling in Hilo) was even more stunning. The waterfalls and the valleys as well as the coastline was something that none of us will ever forget. After you get over the sticker shock of the total cost, ask yourself if you would ever regret doing something like this...Go big or go home!
Very satisfied with Blue Hawaiian helicopters service. We went on the volcano tour, and were super excited to see the lava, Kilauea was very active that day. Our pilot was so nice, always talking and trying to get to know everybody. My only complaint is that the dvd you buy after the ride, is expensive and has the worst image quality I have ever seen. it looks like VHS from the 90's. Any camera nowadays is much superior to that. Their camera is located on the nose of the helicopter so you have amazing shots, but the poor quality ruins it. They should upgrade their cameras immediately.
We took the EcoStar tour of the volcanoes & waterfalls. It's pretty much the only way to see hot lava on the big island right now. The EcoStar helicopter has huge windows for great viewing. We were lucky to see bubbling lava. Our pilot was informative and educational about the volcanic activity and it's history. This was my family's first helicopter ride and we all loved it. It felt very safe and stable.
