This was my first time in a helicopter. I was a bit nervous at first, got over that quickly and really enjoyed the full island tour. You were able to experience the island like you never could on the ground because of the terrain. Amazing views of waterfalls and lava flows the entire island was beautiful, we and even got to see some red lava. Greg was a great pilot. Had a great time, I would highly recommend this to anyone.
My husband, son, and I went on a 2-hour Big Island Tour a few months ago. Our pilot, Scott, was very knowledgeable and fun, highlighting historical facts about the Big Island and points of interest. We saw amazing things like the volcanic region (the volcano was turned “on” and lava was flowing!), beautiful canyons and waterfalls, and the ocean shoreline. If you’ve never been in a helicopter before, you HAVE to do this. Even if you have been on a helicopter before, you have to do this. Two trip options are offered. We chose the 2-hour tour. Obviously, it’s more expensive but the 2 hours fly by (pardon the pun) and it’s really worth it. We also bought the $25 DVD at the end of the trip. Worthwhile for sure! We had taken a cruise on the Fair Wind in Kona earlier during our vacation and they recommended Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. We’re glad they did. This is a MUST DO when visiting the Big Island.
We researched the helicopter companies well before deciding on Blue Hawaiian and we were so pleased with the service and copter! We went out first thing in the morning and chose the 2 hour tour. It is the only way to go and you see the entire island! Our pilot was Noah and he was fantastic. I was a bit scared of going in a helicopter (my first time), but never once felt anxious. Safety is their first priority. Although the volcano isn't visibly erupting, we did find patches of lava flow which was really cool and we would have not seen it in the ground. The valley and waterfalls were my favorite and completely blew me away with the beauty of this area. Seeing it from above is simply wondrous! Noah gave us a great history lesson on the island and its many areas that was invaluable. This is a trip you cannot miss. Be aware that the seats are tight but all had great views. This is well worth the money and you won't regret it!
We actually drove to Hilo to take heli from there. cheaper. we then drove on through the volcanic area. just great. anyway. heli will take you over active lava fields. you will see a few red lava streams (you would have to hike a couple hours to see it otherwise). we took our two year old toddler. he was pretty fine, just keeping the headphones on because of the noise was tricky. very smooth ride, anyone can do it. they also took us the over waterfalls. it is expensive though.
Very awesome experiance that started with the phone call to book right through to the thank you and goodbye. Great flight, great people and great views. Can't say enough!!! You just MUST experiance Blue Hawaiian Helecopter tours for yourself! Captain Dan Gronstal United Airlines
Very professional Quality safety briefing (as someone who has flown often in professional copters) Excellent selection of sites Assured that all aboard had great visibility Terrific discussion by guide Excellent experience
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to the Big Island and took a 50 minute helicopter ride to see waterfalls, but mainly to see the active volcano. The day we went was great visibility wise, but not so much volcanic activity wise. We viewed Rainbow falls I think it was called, and then flew over to the volcano and spent the majority of the time circling. The pilot was very friendly and well informed. There were speakers and headsets provided to enable communication with the pilot and each other. He gladly welcomed and answered our multiple questions. Overall I highly recommend, great time, good deal!
Blue Hawaiian's Circle of Fire & Waterfall tour was great. Blue Hawaiian staff and crew do a terrific job on ensuring everyone is fully aware of safety procedures and comfortable for the flight. Zac is a great pilot and engaged everyone throughout the flight. Definitely recommend purchasing the DVD or Blu-ray of the flight as you can relive the experience - everything is recorded from the flight including boarding and inflight commentary.
Would recommend this to anyone wanting to see the Island from another view. Being able to see the volcanoes this way was amazing and the pilot was fantastic.
We splurged on the tour over the volcanic area out of Hilo. Good thing we did. The actual Volcanoes park was completely socked in with fog when we tried to visit it via car and hiking. This tour was loads of fun and the view of the current eruption was amazing. Our pilot, Jeremy, was knowledgeable and made the trip even more interesting. Mahalo!
This is a trip my wife always wanted to do.. We did the "Circle of Fire and Waterfall Tour". People were tour was very safety oriented, and knew thier briefings were good. The length of the tour was right. The weather was beautiful. Even though I hate flying in helicopters, I got stuck in the front seat. I was able to take some really great photos. If you don't mind flying in helicopters.. This is the tour for you
Absolutely brilliant. Worth every penny. Make sure you get the DVD of your flight, and the BluRay is a must have.
My wife and I had a great time on our tour (Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls). Our pilot, Adam, was very personable and made us feel safe. We opted to go with an Eco-Star model helicopter and were happy with our decision. There were 6 people to a helicopter (plus the pilot); we sat in the front next to Adam, so we had an incredible view of the volcano and waterfalls.
This excursion was nice and the equipment and pilot made us feel safe. But it took 3 hours for a 45 minute ride. This is about the pace of Disneyworld. Too much wasted time for the return on investment.
We flew with them in hilo and couldn't say enough good things. This flight was the opposite. They were running behind, we were offered no explanation. The pilot anna didn't give a lot of back ground and seemed less personable than our hilo pilot. for party if the flight back, the maui portion, my husband and I were in the back opposite the pilot and could see nothing but ocean out our windows, we missed the sea caves and shoreline. really disappointed. We would not have flown with them this time had we known.
