Brett, my adult grandson, and I took this tour with an extraordinary pilot named Scott. I admit, I was nervous about this flight. ( I found out later that Brett was, too.) Scott was friendly, personable, a great narrator, and played really great music. The music was a great distraction for all of us, especially Enya, my favorite. This trip was worth the time, energy and money.; The views were spectacular and Scott made sure that everyone had a chance for photos. By the end of the tour I was feeling great and had decided that I would move to Hilo and become a helicopter pilot! The staff and pilots are excellent and I I would definitely recommend this tour.
What an awesome tour. The views of the volcano and lava flows were spectacular (even though it rained a bit). I highly recommend both the tour and Blue Hawaiian. Our pilot, Scott, was so knowledgeable about the island and the volcano that it was a great learning experience. The ground crew was great and the whole experience was wonderful.
It really is 5 star - but one taken off because of lack of lava flow! Tim was an excellent pilot and guide. He took his time to ensure we all saw everything, and gave a good commentary. Great experience. Thanks - Ian and Mai Young, Almonte, Ontario.
Incredible! Jeremy provided us with a once in a lifetime experience. We are sure to recommend Blue Hawaiian to anyone coming to the islands. Mahalo Nui Loa
My husband and I enjoyed the Big Island Spectacular tour. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and friendly and encouraged participation by asking lots of questions. This was my first time on a helicopter and it was wonderful. Everyone at Blue Hawaiian was very friendly and accommodating the moment we walked in the door. I definitely recommend a tour with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
We chose the Big Island Spectacular tour from the Waikoloa Heliport on my 57th birthday! A special shout out to our pilot Greg who (even on his "day off") made this adventure the coolest thing ever! This was amazing right from the start. We chose the A-Star version as it was our first helicopter ride ever and did not want to spend even more $$ than we were already paying. While I cannot state if the Eco-Star version would have been worth it, I cannot imagine a better view/experience. The narration by Greg, the soundtrack playing in our headsets, the comfort of the seating, and the views were all impeccable! The first half was great (actually saw lava oozing out of the East Rift of Kilauea!), but the second half (after the refueling in Hilo) was even more stunning. The waterfalls and the valleys as well as the coastline was something that none of us will ever forget. After you get over the sticker shock of the total cost, ask yourself if you would ever regret doing something like this...Go big or go home!
Very satisfied with Blue Hawaiian helicopters service. We went on the volcano tour, and were super excited to see the lava, Kilauea was very active that day. Our pilot was so nice, always talking and trying to get to know everybody. My only complaint is that the dvd you buy after the ride, is expensive and has the worst image quality I have ever seen. it looks like VHS from the 90's. Any camera nowadays is much superior to that. Their camera is located on the nose of the helicopter so you have amazing shots, but the poor quality ruins it. They should upgrade their cameras immediately.
We took the EcoStar tour of the volcanoes & waterfalls. It's pretty much the only way to see hot lava on the big island right now. The EcoStar helicopter has huge windows for great viewing. We were lucky to see bubbling lava. Our pilot was informative and educational about the volcanic activity and it's history. This was my family's first helicopter ride and we all loved it. It felt very safe and stable.
I liked the bits with the helicopter, the volcano, and the waterfalls. Colleen was knowledgeable, and managed to keep up a good patter while we were all struck dumb by the sights. Ground staff was kind even when I buckled my buckle in the wrong slot. My one complaint is that there wasn't an open bar on board, my mouth was a little dry. Also I was expecting flips and barrel rolls and such. Perhaps a dogfight? Maybe next time, we still had a fantastic time. Much love, the Khougaz family.
We had never done a helicopter ride before, but figured it would be great to do a helicopter ride over the volcano as it's the only way to see the caldera. Unfortunately, it was rainy on the day of our helicopter tour, so we weren't able to fly directly over the volcano, and instead flew over some active lava flows on land instead. This would have been impressive had we not just done an amazing 6-7 hour hike the day before to see active lava flows up close (so close we were able to stick wooden sticks into the lava and watch them catch on fire), much closer than we got on a helicopter. As a result, the tour was rather disappointing in terms of what we were able to see. The tour company itself is professional and well-run, with well-organized preparation sessions and staff with lots of experience guiding customers through the experience. I felt like I was in good hands the entire time, and had a smooth experience with the company, from the booking stage to the actual helicopter ride itself. My only criticisms were that the company felt like such a well-oiled machine that there was no personal touch and it felt rather mass-produced, and that the tour seemed pretty expensive considering the short ride. That said, if anyone's looking for a helicopter ride on the Big Island, I would not hesitate to recommend this company.
Ethan was a great pilot letting everyone on both sides see the interesting things! We actually saw lava squirt up! I do not like heights too much, but the views temporarily made me forget about them. Our pilot gave us a very smooth ride!
The trip we took started on a bumpy path, our original fly date was cancelled due to weather. (They were thinking of our safety, I like that). The team was very helpful in working with us so we could arrange for another date during our stay. Our pilot Nathan was very informative and was concerned about me because I hit my head when I got in. If I hadn't been so excited I probably would not have done that. We did the Echo over the waterfalls and the volcano. My husband and I were both spellbound during this AMAZING journey!!!! We saw waterfalls that were flowing like there was no tomorrow, and we observed bubbling lava and land based flow. I am not going to say it is cheap, especially since we paid time and a half each because we are over the weight limit....even with that it was worth EVERY penny spent!!!!!!!!
You have got to do this helicopter trip! ! Birthday treat arranged by husband as always wanted to do trip over volcano. Thanks to our pilot Shane who was a mine of information about the island itself made the trip very memorable.the views were fantastic, ranging from lava, waterfalls whales & mountains.Even got to land at Hilo airport to pick up extra passenger, listen in on tower control giving us an insight into what goes on behind the scenes,Everything was explained very well and really enjoyed the day,
Blue Hawaii Helicopters runs a great operation. My wife and I flew with them from the airport in Hilo to the lava flows on that side of the island. Our pilot, Colleen, was a fabulous tour guide and flying ace. Everyone on board had a great time, got all their questions answered and were able to experience a once-in-a-lifetime activity. If you're staying on the Kona side of the island, you can choose to fly to the lava flows from a heliport close by or do what we did, and make it a day trip by driving from Kona to Hilo. We stopped along the way and visited beautiful waterfalls and spectacular sights. After our helicopter tour, we wandered around Hilo and had a great lunch at a local restaurant. Don't miss Blue Hawaii Helicopters!
Fabulous trip over the volcanoes then onto Hilo and up the east cost via gorgeous cliffs with waterfalls - stunning landscape!!! Unfortunately not a lot if red lava was to be seen...but we did see some....kids expected more, but kids want it all these days!!! . $500 for a 2 hr flight... long enough just quietly.
