Our pilot, Justin was awesome. Very knowledgeable and funny too! Best way to see those beautiful falls , rain forests , the breathtaking view of the oceans.
We had originally scheduled this flight for a birthday experience, but Maui weather was not on the same page with us. Storms and clouds canceled our flight, but we were re-scheduled to a day later in our vacation. The pilots are very knowledgeable and the helicopters are very new and clean. If you get motion sickness, take something ahead of time, because the helicopter definitely moves and swivels to get pictures of waterfalls and other sights. I don't usually get sick, but after an hour and a half flight, I was feeling a little nauseated. We took the Maui Spectacular which is 1.5 hours with a landing on the slope of Haleakala for some pineapple wine! Rick was our pilot and he was GREAT!
Anybody who likes helicopter rides HAS to take this Blue Hawaiian tour. Haleakala is a 10,000 foot volcanic peak on Maui. Views from the air are breathtaking. Driving to Haleakala take hours - a helicopter trip takes minutes. Hana is a rain forest on Maui's eastern coast. It is dotted with dozens of scene waterfalls that you can't access from the ground. Our wonderful pilot, Rick, skillfully maneuvered the draft so that all on board got a great view of these sights. 100% worth the $$$ and something I'll do again on Maui.
It was eight years between flights and Blue Hawaiian still provides excellent service and a great fun experience. Due to bad weather we weren't able to do the exact tour we booked, but the staff were extremely accommodating offering refund, rebooking or an alternative route. We took the alternative route and enjoyed it immensely. We did the tour with a stop off for some pineapple sparkling wine at the ranch, this was a highlight because you stop high up on the mountain and have plenty of time to soak in the views. The Eco-Star helicopter is perfect for this type of tour, everyone has a great view. A must do in Maui!
I didn't have very high expectations but I've liked the few helicopter rides I've done before. Blue Hawaiian exceeded my expectations. Everything feels new, well organized and definitely safe. Even though I was in a middle seat in the second row I could see everything. Our pilot was professional but very friendly. The sights were stunning - waterfalls, rainforest, coastline. It put Maui in great perspective. I recommend you do it early in your visit.
We took the West Maui Mountain tour and were not disappointed. My father had been slightly apprehensive after reading some reviews on trip/you tube that on the right hand side of the helicopter you have rubbish views. My husband and I were sat in the back on the right and I assure you we had excellent views. This was not an issue at all. It is really really beautiful. Our Pilot, Ryan made sure to turn so everyone got to see everything. He narrated and explained what we were seeing really well and let us know when we would hit air bumps to reassure the more nervous fliers in our Helicopter. The whole process felt really safe, from the moment we stepped in and watched our safety briefing to the diligence they take in arranging seating plans, and checking the helicopters. Overall a must do, I'm so glad we did this tour it was well worth the money. We also bought a DVD of our trip so we can relive it at home.
An expensive excursion, but you can't beat the views! Our pilot was awesome and really made the experience exceptional. There were 7 of us in our group, we had to split up into 2 helicopters, but we all had a great time. Seat assignments are based on weight and height to balance the helicopter. I was a little fearful of sitting in the front since I have a slight fear of heights, but I was fine. The only person who didn't have a great view was my husband who was in the back in the middle. He could not see over the seat in front of him, but still had good views out both sides. The view really helps you to realize how lush and untouched most of Maui is. You also get to land on a grassy hill for some wine (juice for those under 21) and a breathtaking view of the coast. We went on our second day on the island. I would have preferred a little later in the stay because other excursions pale after this one.
Beautiful views and the pilot handled the helicopter well. Our family really enjoyed this experience and would recommend this company.
Thank you! It was a lot of fun, beautiful, and cool facts! :) The views were spectacular and the pilot Rick was awesome. Took the Ecostar which was spacious enough, comfortable and can see pretty much everything. Would definitely do it again.
We took the West Maui, Molokai tour on the EcoStar and it was absolutely amazing! Great views for everyone. The pilot turn the helicopter so all could see from each side. We went right up in between the mountains, over the wind turbines. Great service, great pilot. Would definitely recommend this tour!
When planning to travel to Maui for our first time ever, I decided that my wife and I must take a helicopter tour. With a combination of online review and the recommendation from our resort's concierge, I elected to book a West Maui and Moloka'i tour with Blue Hawaiian. I am certainly glad I did, as I cannot imagine a better helicopter tour! The Eco-Star helicopter was beautiful. It was very clean inside, and had all of the bells and whistles that you would hope a helicopter to have. I found myself watching the pilot's displays while we were in transit from site to site! The pilot that we had was very knowledgeable, and had a pretty good sense of humor as well. That made the tour itself a lot more fun. The views in the helicopter all depend on where you sit. Unfortunately, you really don't have too much of a choice as to where you sit, because the people are distributed according to weight. I ended up sitting in one of the two "inside" seats in the rear of the helicopter, and it was the left-inside seat (my wife was in the left-outside seat). This wasn't a bad seat for me, as I am over 6 feet tall. However, if you are a shorter person, you may struggle a bit to see out the front or even out the side. If you sit in one of the right two seats, you may not have much of a view at all. Most of our tour had a left-side view, so my wife and I had pretty good views. However, there was a couple in the right-rear seats, and they complained after the tour that they could see nothing. The woman in the right-outside seat was quite short, and since most of the scenery was on the left of the helicopter, she had nothing to see and was quite upset about it. So, if you can specifically request a left-side rear seat or one of the two front seats, I would suggest that you do that. Otherwise, your view could be obstructed. Besides that, the tour itself was great for us, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to take a helicopter tour in Maui.
Well run operation. Ground crew on the flight line is enthusiastic and does a great job. Can see the sights very well from above. We took the Molokai West Maui tour and liked it.
We just finished this 60 minute tour of Maui and it was wonderful. So many things we had not seen after 6 days on the island and would have missed if we had not done the helicopter tour. Our pilot was great at explaining what we saw without being too wordy (which can be a distraction to sightseeing). The ride was unexpectedly smooth (as described by my wife who doesn't like to fly anyway). Cost was about $250 per person which included some fuel surcharges at the time. Prior to our flight we saw a brief safety video then were lined up to board the copter. Please for the benefit of all who are flying, WEAR DARK CLOTHES as their brochure suggests. One lady in the front window was wearing a red/orange floral and I had a real hard time filtering out that color reflection from the pics. If Hawaii Helicopters (or any other helo tour is reading this, have a dark towel or light blanket to cover persons next to window to allow better picture opportunities for all on board). There are typically two passengers in front and three to four in the rear seat. All seats had window views and camera shots available to make the ride fun. Headphones and a microphone allowed for communication to pilot for Q and A. $25 DVD video of trip is available on return if you want to purchase it. Not a cheap trip for a family but the absolute best way to see more of the island and understand the ecology of the island.
Most amazing experience ever! Off my bucket list! Would do it again in a heartbeat. The video we got of our flight was amazing. We relived the experience two months later. Our pilot, Justin, was awesome! If you only do one thing on your vacation, this should be the ONE thing!!
We took tour of west maui and Molokai... It was really a fun experience. My wife and I went with our two boys. My wife and one son tend to get motion sickness, so they put on some of those motion sickness bands. Must have worked because they were fine (they sat in the back). My other son, who usually doesn't get sick, actually felt queasy for half the trip (he was up front with me). He never had to use his comfort bag, but was ready to do it if needed. Was a little choppy, but not even as bad as a roller coaster. On to the flight... you get to see some really cool sites. I recommend this flight. Was great to hear about the history of the islands. The pilot, Eric, was great. Funny and informative. Would recommend you ask for his flight if you can. We rode in the ecostar, which had big windows. Other than that, the staff was good too. Unlike the experience of what some other reviewers stated, they were friendly and very thorough with us. Told us what to expect, what to do, and we were fine. They said no camera bags and had free lockers you can use. No hats, so don't bother trying to wear one. They said computer assigns seats based on weight, so don't try to change their mind... they are being safe for everyone. If you get motion sickness, take a pill or put on a patch, or don't go; don't complain that the staff doesn't care. They can't cure you. Basically, ask them questions in advance and you won't go wrong - between asking them and the information on their website, we got all our questions addressed. And lastly, you can take pictures from the air, but don't do so at the expense of enjoying the views.
