we did the big island spectacular tour on the eco star helicopter. They picked us up from our nearby hotel and even provided T shirts to cover our bright clothes that would have made glares in the picture. The ride was amazing. we had never been in a helicopter before. got to see some lava flows which were actually kind of underwhelming, cool to see but it sorta just looks like a forest fire, not flying over a volcano like we had been imagining lol. but the ride into the valleys and the landing at the waterfall were incredible. one of the coolest things I've ever done! our pilot Carl was great. informative and entertaining. There was even a soundtrack synced up to the ride. just wish we had purchased our tape when we had the chance.
When you get to the Big Island you have to take a helicopter ride over the island, especially the volcano which is oozing lava. The view from the air is breathtaking and these guys really know their stuff. Most of the pilots are ex-military and flying is in their blood. This was our most expensive indulgence but the ride was no five minute sampler, it went for almost 45 minutes and was worth every cent. This is a memory I will have when I'm 64 sitting on the porch watching the world go by.
Agree with all the other reviews. This was the highlight of the trip. Blue Hawaiian stood out from the other helicopter companies nearby - it definitely appeared to be the most professional. At all times I felt completely safe and relaxed. Shay was our pilot and had a VERY nice voice :-) The commentary and music were excellent and made it a trip I will never forget. Do recommend making this the last thing you do before you leave Kauai (we did a 3pm ride and arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare for out 630pm flight).
Lorne was a fantastic pilot. Very experienced and knowledgeable. An experience not to be missed and the views were unbelievable. Definitely would recommend this company
We did the 2 hour Big Island tour today with a valley landing. The pilot, Eric, was awesome. He was informative, a great pilot, and dealt well with small kids asking questions. The helicopter itself was great (the EcoStar) and not a bad seat on it. We really enjoyed the time and saw SO much more than if you spent a week on the ground driving around. Worth every penny!
The tour was great and pilot Julie was very knowledgable. It was one of our favorite activities. When we booked, we were told we could purchase either a dvd, blu ray or high quality recording of the tour on a USB device. When we went to purchase our high quality recording, we were to,d that our helicopter only had dvd capability. Our recording was showing on one screen while the recording of the tour that left at the same as ours, was playing on the other. The other helicopter had the USB option. The difference in quality was UNREAL and very, very disappointing! We received a poor quality, drab and poorly colored recording. When we expressed our disappointment, we were told "well on the bright side. It's cheaper!" We just paid over $400 for the tour, I don't think saving $15 to get a crappy recording is looking on the bright side. Had we known this ahead of time, we would have specifically scheduled our tour on the other aircraft. It was a once in a lifetime experience and while we have the memories, we are very disappointed in the recording we were so excited to show our friends and families.
Our travel book on Kauai said that (loose quote) going to Kauai and NOT taking a helicopter tour was like going to the Sistine Chapel and not looking up! I am so glad we had this view from above of all the natural sites that were on our "must see list." I am also very glad that we chose Blue Hawaiian for this incredible trip. # 1 plus for their pilots and aircraft is that I DID NOT GET SICK! I have vertigo & not once did I feel the least bit queasy. The helicopter was completely enclosed. It could only carry 5 passengers. The flight was smooth and the route we took could not have been better! The guide was very personable and informative. Seeing the sites we had already visited from above gave us so much more perspective. We all had headphones and a microphone for asking questions. This is great way to learn more about the island and its geography. Being overwhelmed by the views and totally engrossed in the pilot's verbal information may have helped my dizziness because I never once thought about the movements and maneuvers of the helicopter. I did not plan on taking pictures. I just wanted to enjoy the ride. However, I took several photos because the views were so spectacular. I used an iPhone 6 for taking pictures and only a few had reflective glare. Dark clothing helped prevent glare. I needed sunglasses & water. You can buy water in the lobby but it is not provided. The registration, preview & security training were very efficient. I cannot think of any improvements needed. Great tour, pilot, route, vehicle, and experience.
We just got back from our honeymoon in Hawaii - Maui and Kaua'i. All along, we knew to take a helicopter tour in Kaua'i. We prepaid ours over a week in advance to get the additional discount. I advise folks to choose an earlier time in their stay, as weather can sometimes alter the schedule of the tours. We happened to luck out as ours stayed on-time, as scheduled. The things that impressed me about Blue Hawaiian was how organized the operation was, how they had a professional building (versus say a tent of other places), how cool and calm our pilot Shay was, how everything was synchronized to music, and lastly, how it was all videotaped in HD. We definitely recommend buying the video. It came on a USB stick for about $40. Showing our families the tour by posting to YouTube has been great, as they too could ride along at home. :) I'd definitely take another tour with BH if given the chance.
This was the highlight of our trip to Kauai. Our pilot Brody, a native of the island, was so knowledgeable, and still in love with his island -and really passed along his passion for the beauty and intrigue of it to us. Seeing the NaPali coast from the air, and seeing the crater - birthplace of Kauai was so moving - many of us were in tears. The music was an amazing,, moving accompaniment to the tour. I was also very impressed with the cleanliness of their facilities, and the professionalism of all the staff. I was worried about my first helicopter flight, but I had no air sickness, and I felt their dedication to safety was top notch. They also had to reschedule our first tour due to bad weather, but they got us rescheduled very quickly, and made sure our tour later was special. Our son's birthday was that day, and they made him feel very special. Can't say enough about this outfit and this tour. Book now!
We strongly recommend Blue Hawaian Helicopters. We utilized their service on the Island of Kauai. First of all, their based of operations is at the heliport. You register at the site and walk out the back door to board the chopper. The pilots are very skilled delivering a very smooth ride as well as being very knowledgeable in explaining all you see via two way communication headsets. The helicopters are top quality with very open lines of site. Blue Hawaiian promises 50 to 55 minutes, but our flight was 60 minutes. It was worth every penny. We have used all the helicopter services at Kauai and BLUE HAWAIIAN IS THE BEST!!
This was our first time on a helicopter (after choosing not to do one on the Big Island a coupe of years ago). We are so glad we took the plunge and did it, it was truly amazing. We picked Blue Hawaiian due to other reviews and were so glad we did; all the staff were great, it was easy (some companies require you to park offsite and then be transported there by their own van), the helicopters had huge windows and even though I was seated in the back middle (four seats in the back, two in the front) I still had a fantastic view. The pilot (Mark) did his best to ensure all sides had a fair view. We would highly recommend spending the money and experiencing this at least once. Travelled with a 3 year old and a 18 month old and they were very accommodating.
After a weight check and safety briefing, you are strapped into the helicopter, and the pilot gives you an amazing tour of mostly inaccessible Kauai. It's full of canyons, waterfalls, places made famous by 600 movies, and the pilot will even set down somewhere and let you walk in the wild. The entire flight is videotaped, and you can buy the DVD after.(Recommended) The headset plays music or the pilot narrates what you are looking at. You can ask questions via a shared mic. I didn't want the flight to end and I now think helicopters are the only way to fly (my first time.) This is a must for a trip to Kauai.
I can't say enough good things about the beauty and excitement of the tour. Kauai is a beautiful island and the pilot did a great job of helping us enjoy it.
My husband, two sons and I went on a 1 hour tour of Kauai with Brody as our pilot. I have never been so amazed! We were so lucky to have had Brody as our pilot. He is a native of Kauai and loves his island so very much. It was evident in the outstanding experience he provided for us. He was so knowledgable and showed us everything he could. We saw countless waterfalls, the canyon, the Nepali Coast and much more!! We have driven to many of these sites, but nothing compares to the up close and personal experience of a helicopter tour. Also, the staff at blue Hawaiian is friendly and knowledgable as well. We will definitely use them again some day when we return to this gorgeous place!
Unbelievably great way to see Kauai! It was like watching a movie unfold at your feet. We had Brodie, a Kauai native, who has perfected his narration to enhance the spectacular sights as they arose. His piloting made you feel safe yet exhilarated as he rose to the edges of ridges and sunk deep into the valleys. I literally cried as the beauty of the island unfolded before me. My only suggestion is to skip taking pictures and just buy the video they custom make of your trip - the reflections off the glass made many of my pictures not worth the effort - I should have been watching instead of trying to get a shot. Would do it again in a heartbeat!
