My wife and I took a helicopter tour on our very first visit to Kauai, more than 30 years ago, and we weren't really planning to do one again, but the boat trip that we were supposed to go on was repeatedly cancelled because of rough waters in the NaPali coast area, and we did want to get a nice view of that area of the island, so on our last full day on the island we decided to splurge and do the helicopter thing again. I'm glad we did; it was a phenomenal experience with exceptional views of Kauai's wonderful scenery. Expensive, yes, but well worth it in terms of memories and photos. The helicopters used by this company all seem quite modern and up to date. One potential drawback that customers should be aware of is that not all seats are by the window. My wife and I were guaranteed that one of us would have a window seat, and while she did get one, I wound up in the second of two rows in the middle. (It's not a question of first-come, first-served; seats are selected by a computer based largely on weight distribution, and heavier folks are likely to get stuck in the middle.) Had I not been traveling with my wife, this would have been a real problem unless single passengers are guaranteed window seats, and I don't know if they are (I could see reasonably well most of the time, but taking pictures would have been almost impossible), but at least with her in the window seat I could stick my camera in front of her and take pictures out of her window (we had a pre-flight agreement that I could do this). Even with this accommodation, I think she had a better experience than I did, so perhaps my 5 stars should really be a 4, but I decided to err on the side of generosity because I really liked the people and the overall experience, and short of flying with fewer people on each trip (which would raise the rates, of course) I don't see how the company could do much about this issue. Weight distribution in a helicopter really is a legitimate safety issue, and while I was a little disappointed in the fact that I wound up where I was, the fact is, I do weigh a lot more than my wife. There are several cameras affixed to the copter, one internal and the others external, and the pilot switches from one to the other depending on where the best views are. Thus, for every flight, an individual video of that particular trip is made, and can be purchased for a little more than 40 dollars. (There are two options: a blue-ray, or a memory stick that you can use to download the video on your computer.) We purchased the video, which came out great and makes for an excellent souvenir. (Because of the internal camera, though, there are frequent cuts to the people in the helicopter, so be sure you don't pick your nose or anything while flying). The videos record not only great views but the pilot's excellent commentary, so at the end of the trip you know where you've been. My wife found this very helpful when she posted an album of photos that she took. All told: highly recommended. This may easily prove to be the highlight of your visit to Kauai.
We loved this tour, it was worth every penny. The pilot was informative and friendly and the views were amazing. The ride was so smooth that a young child fell asleep during it. Will recommend to others!
Brodie was our pilot and he really made the tour epic! Thanks for making our day so great. There were seven people in the helicopter including the pilot. Everyone had a great seat, I don't think there is a way to have a bad view!
Absolutely amaazing. This airline operation is truly an amazing company. From the booking through the hotel concierge to the pick up time (6:05am - exactly on time), this was simply a great experience. The Big Island Spectacular tour is not to be missed. If you are lucky enough to see active lava you will simply be amazed by it. Then, once you hit the coastline and see hundreds (yes, hundreds) of waterfalls in the countless valleys your jaw will hit the floor. The pilot's (Ian, in our case) provides a great narrative tour of what you are looking at, where to look, and what to look for. Then, he also knew when to just be a pilot and allow us to take in the views. I cannot wait to return to the Islands and book another trip, on a different Island. The Blue Hawaiian tour is worth every single penny spent on it.
This is a great way to see the island and to really get a feel for the parts you won't see from the road or an attraction. Our pilot, Marco, was great! He has a genuine interest in the island and in showing guests the wonders of his adopted home. Not cheap but absolutely worth the experience.
This was an amazing experience that I will always remember. It was my first time in a helicopter and I was uncertain what to expect. My son and I enjoyed the amazing aerial views. First we buzzed the hotels in Waikiki and then we flew over the Diamond Head crater. We then proceeded up the eastern windward side of the island and saw the tallest waterfall on the island. We then flew around the north shore of the island which is the surfing mecca in the winter months. We the proceeded south along the same path that the Japanese planes took on that fateful December morning back in 1941. We flew over to Dole Plantation and onto Pearl Harbor. We flew directly over the Arizona Memorial and you could see the full outline of the sunken hull in her final resting place. After that we returned to the airport occluding our tour. I am not going to lie. A helicopter ride is not like flying in a commercial jet at 40,000 feet. We changed altitude in a very noticeable way and some of the banked turns near the waterfall were rather severe. You might want to skip breakfast that morning if you are so inclined. All in all, a truly unforgettable experience.
We took our tour on 1-31-15 after a cancellation two days prior when weather conditions in afternoon became unacceptable. We love the eco-star heli and used same company on the big island last year. Both times we had excellent pilots and this time Trevor proved to be a very accomplished and professional pilot. At 9:30 a.m. we had just about as perfect a view as possible. We appreciate the video taken by the company since not all of your photos will be good quality due to where you might be sitting or sun glare or other. We purchased the video from our big island tour and it was good. The main negative issue that writers discuss on seating is that you will not know where you sit until you are ready to board. This seating is computer generated due to weight of other riders and distribution of this weight on heli. On big island we were very lucky to have had front seating and it is the best. This time in the back and one window seat and an inside seat are not the best for photography but we surely took enough good ones to make us happy, plus we bought the video. We don't work for national geographic, so it does not have to be perfect. The experience is enough and it is wonderful to be able to do this; especially since we are not hiking to the places you will see on your ride. We had no issues with any staff at all. Nothing is perfect, you are one of few fortunate people to be on vacation here, so relax and enjoy! They offer private tours also.
Really enjoyed this tour, I'd highly recommend it. Plus this is by far the safest tour, they have the best Helicopters you can get!
My family and I had a helicopter tour of Kauai on our must do list while we were in Kauai. We checked into a number of companies, and are so glad we went with Blue Hawaiian. The tour was fantastic, and our pilot, Shay was professional, and very knowledgeable. The flight was smooth, and the raised rear row of the Eco-Star helicopter definitely improved the view from the back row. My family and I had such a great time, I'd highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tours.
The most professional company anywhere. You feel extremely at ease with this company. Our pilot Miguel was so informative, funny and accommodating. Their helicopters are the best on the island and you feel completely safe in their care. Take the time to experience Kauai from the air- you will not regret it. It was the highlight of our trip. Thank you Blue Hawaiin
First helicopter ride, and it was incredible. There really is no better way to see this beautiful island--and the pilots get you up close and personal----right next to the cliffs and caves, eye level with the water falls. Our pilot, Shay, was super friendly and easy to talk with. You could tell how happy he was to share his island with us-- told stories, pointed out areas of interest, gave lots of information about Kauai. I was worried about feeling airsick, but it really is more of a floating feeling, and the 50-55 minute ride was just the perfect amount of time. We had great weather for our afternoon flight. Just an fyi that even wearing dark shirts, there can be some glare that shows up in pics from white socks and tennis shoes too, nonetheless, great pics are almost guaranteed! This was one of the highlights of our trip, and a must-do on Kauai!
When our zodiac tour of the Na Pali coast was cancelled due to rough seas , we booked with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters to see the island and coastline. From reservation to touchdown the tour was professionally run, organized and sheer pleasure. ( not a pun on the shear cliffs of the coast) . Marty , our pilot was informative, competent and experienced. The views were something of fantasy; Waterfalls, poi farms, weather eroded cliffs, crashing waves , this tour is a must do. I live on the Big Island and will now make sure to do the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour here. Always hesitated because of the cost but will hesitate no longer, worth every breathtaking dollar.
We booked our flight online and the process was quick and easy. We arrived at Blue Hawaiian and were greeted promptly. Everyone at the facility was polite and friendly and efficient. Our pilot, Brodie was amazing. He clearly loves Kauai and was he does. He was informative and flew the helicopter so everyone in the aircraft could get a great view. Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the worse, and our flight had to be canceled half way through. Due to our travel schedule, we were unable to rebook our flight, so our entire cost was refunded. I was surprised, as we did get about half our flight, but they refunded all our money. Additionally, they gave us the recording of our flight for free. I wish we could have done the full flight, but I understand safety must come first. Blue Hawaiian handled the situation professionally and more than exceeded my expectations. Will definitely book with them again, if I ever get back to Kauai. They were fantastic!
I hesitated to do the helicopter ride bc of the price but right before we left on our trip to Kauai I heard from a couple people or sources that it was seriously necessary to any trip to the island. You simply can't see the whole island unless you fly or are a crazy hiker person. With a 10 yr old this seemed like the better option. I was considering BH because of the recommendations I had seen but when we got to the island and I saw that you could purchase $100 gift cards for BH at Cosco for $80 each that helped with my reservation about the cost. Like went ahead and booked with the company and because I waited til we were there I was afraid they wouldn't be able to get us in. But I think they run so many flights a day unless your party is huge they'll be able to accommodate you. Our pilots name was Mark and he answered every single question my 10 year old had with humor and professionally regardless of they made sense or not. And my son through a ton at him- at the end my son thought Mark knew EVERYTHING about the island. We learned a ton about trees, land formations, the history of the island, etc. Mark was also a great source on for beach recommendations, hiking trails and what else we had to see on the island. When we landed (VERY smooth flight-I get carsick easily and had no problem) everyone in our party agreed it was worth the Splurge.
We took a cruise to Hawaii a couple years ago and contacted Blue Hawaiian Helicopters via the Internet from our cruise ship to pre book a helicopter tour of the island. They were fully booked but emailed us a day later with a cancelation at a perfect time in the morning of our arrival to the island. The location is a 5 minute walk from the dock. We got to shop at a little mall across the street from Blue Hawaiian offices. A bus took us to the heliport. And then the tour. You have not seen the Hawaiian islands until you see them via helicopter. I could do that over and over. The helicopter was huge and new. The staff were professional and safety oriented at all times. Al in all- we loved it-awsome-must do
