I cant understand why some people will not like this. Unless is raining or you dont have a window (that will never happen). WE LOVED THIS RIDE. We bought the vide too. Brandon was our pilot. He wsas very nice, friendly,professional.....and very funny. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. If you are going to spend some money forget it about tubing, zip-lining, etc. Do this please. Almost an hour on the air. There is no other way were you can see this. The waterfalls, the Canyons etc. We were so happy that we did this. We celebrated our wedding in Maui and after that some of our guest went to Honolulu and others came to Kaua'i. I suggested my friends going to Honolulu to hire the same company and they did. They were very happy.
This was the best thing we did while in Kauai. Our pilot was extremely informative, and gave us lots of information about the island while we flew around. We also took a boat tour of the Napali Coast, and thought that seeing it from the air did it so much more justice. Additionally we got to see the inactive volcanic crater, as well as fly into some of the valleys and see a lot of the water falls (including Jurassic Falls).
A truly amazing experience (Big Island Spectacular). Gregory our pilot was engaging and informative. The views of the volcano were impressive, but please know that depending on the day, you may only see a few lava breakthroughs and not flowing red lava, and it is no longer flowing into the ocean. Regardless, the views are impressive. The waterfalls and inner valleys were magnificent. We had such a clear day we were able to go deeper into the valleys than usual. The pilot did a great job of flying by interesting areas multiple times so all passengers could see. I flew the Ecostar, which was comfortable and offered a very smooth ride. Definitely worth the extra money for me. Video of the ride was very reasonably priced as well. I highly recommend this operation and tour!
Overall a very good trip. The weather was excellent so visibility was great. They flew all seven of our family in one helicopter. We were picked up at the resort, on time, which was excellent. Everyone could see from their seat. The pilot was good and she explained everything that we were seeing on the ground. She even took us out and down a bit towards the ocean to see a couple of whales, that was nice. She flew us right up to one waterfall as well. Oahu does not have any active volcanoes so don't expect anything on that front and there is was only one waterfall. We went early in the week so we got a flavor of North Shore, South Shore, etc. We did purchase the video, which comes on an SD card. I gave a 4 star only because there was nothing exciting to see but still overall good value for the money.
This is a fantastic opportunity that people should embark on when visiting Hawaii. A very professional, well run organisation with safety and modern equipment making it a fantastic experience. The pilots appear to be well skilled and extremely knowledgeable and the whole experience is a positive one! The efficiency of booking is very good, with easy to read and understand detailed joining instructions supplied. The 45 minute trip around Oahu is excellent value for money and allows you to really get an understanding of what the island looks like and you are able to see all the tourist attractions that you may wish to visit. We did our trip on the 2nd day of our holiday and it definitely helped us scope the next two weeks in terms of where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. The time spent in the helicopter allowed us to prioritise and enjoy our holiday a lot more as we knew where we wanted to go or felt that having seen a site from the air that the land visit would not have been worthwhile. Attractions of this nature are never cheap but in our opinion it was definitely money well spent and a great customer experience all round!! Thanks Blue Hawaiian for making our holiday that little bit 'more special'!!
This might not be the cheapest helicopter tour of the volcano and the waterfalls, but I bet you will agree that it is certainly worth the money. The lava was blisteringly red hot and moving ever so slowly, certainly not viewable except from above. The narrative by pilot Dave was very informative. Seeing a full circle rainbow from the air was just a bonus. Splurge a little and create a lifetime memory.
My wife bought us tickets for the Lava tour as an anniversary gift. I've never been up in a helicopter before and I was not disappointed. Now I won't fool you it is expensive as are most helicopter tours. But if you can invest in this, even as a once in a lifetime experience...take it.(My wife saved up just so we could do this.) Anyway our guide, Marko was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. Had a great soundtrack to go along with the trip. Now my wife and got the Front Seat package(through our concierge). But from my undestanding all seats are good(plus there is a video of your trip with narration and music you can purchase afterwards.) Seriously though it is such an experience. Now unfortunately Hilo was experiencing heavy rain so we were unable to get close to any Lava(we could see some volcanic activity, but just from afar.) So because of this Marko gave us a chance to either return to base and reschedule for another day OR he could turn our tour into a Canyon/waterfall tour and have the company reimburse us for the difference. My wife voted second choice and pushed for all of us to do the Canyon/Waterfall. We totally lucked out. It was spectacular and gorgeous. He weaved us through some of the most gorgeous valleys and canyons I've ever seen. The music helped(but the experience would have been just as awesome without it. He even got us over a WWII bomber that is still sitting in a valley on the island. Please look it up on google...amazing story...totally made the change in the trip worth it. This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Hawaii(The heat/humidity killed the rest of our trip.) But like I said it's worth it if you can afford it(and try and afford it - please.) Spend th rest of your trip hanging on the beach or hiking, but make sure to take a day for this trip(lava or canyon). There was a nice shuttle service(complimentary) the they provide. We were on the Kona side of the island so this was a nice extra(especially since we had to get up so damn early that morning.)
Dale our pilot took us on our flight. He choose incredible music to make our flight even more amazing and memorable than it could have been. Breathtaking views and real efforts to let us all see everything. Thank you very much!!
I flew Blue Hawaiian helicopters in 1996 over Maui - that's how long these guys have been around. So I didn't hesitate to choose them this week with their impeccable record and glowing reviews. To begin with, my wife is slightly afraid of flying. All of that went away when we met our pilot (Shane) who told us his experience flying helicopters which included flight instruction, tours over the Grand Canyon, landing on glaciers in Alaska. He then told us how difficult it was to get a job with Blue Hawaiian, so we know how selective they are. Aside from experience, Shane was an incredible tour guide with lots of knowledge and encouraged questions from us. He was fantastic in all respects....thank you Shane! The experience itself was unbelievable. If you can spring for it, do "The Big Island Spectacular" on an Eco Star helicopter (the newest and best model for several reasons) which is the longer of the rides. We flew over almost the entire island. We went over Kilauea and were directly over erupting lava! All along the North Coast into valleys and hovered over towering waterfalls....words can't describe it. Just go and you'll write the same review!
We did a helicopter flight on the big island over the volcano and surrounding countryside. It was absolutely awesome. We had never been in a helicopter before but it is possibly the best experience I have had so far in Hawaii. We were shown a safety video before we left, and assigned numbers according to weight, and these numbers were used to seat us in the helicopter. Our pilot Coleen was great with lots of interesting facts given. She was careful to fly over areas in a formation so people seated on both sides had great views of the feature we were looking at. Well recommended activity, and good value for money.
As part of my initial visit to Hawaii, and given the short turnaround time I had before my departure flight, I figured a helicopter tour around the island of Oahu would be the best way to see a lot of the island in a short amount of time. The staff were fantastic through the whole process. They were quick to respond to my initial email query and helpful on the phone when confirming the reservation. A slight delay coming from Pearl Harbor caused me to be a few minutes late for the 10:15AM showtime. I received a call promptly at this time to ensure everything was alright and that I'd be there for the 11:00 flight. Upon arrival, the payment was settled, the staff introduced themselves, and a safety video was presented before we made our way outside to board he helicopters. Everything was well structured and done on time. Our helicopter was first to depart and our pilot/guide was Adam. He was an excellent pilot, answered everyone's questions with an impressive amount of detail and provided us with a significant amount of history about the island and the sights we were viewing. I would say Adam was one of the best tour guides I've had in all the traveling that I have done. Overall, Blue Hawaii Helicopters runs a very professional operation that is worth doing if you ever visit Honolulu (or presumably any if the other islands they operate on). One note - the price of any helicopter tour may make you consider less expensive tours or activities, but if you are willing to make an exception, this would be the one activity that is worth doing so. The sights across the island, viewed from the air, are absolutely breathtaking.
This was the highlight of Hawaii for us! The one hour flight over Kauai was breathtaking. The pilot was fantastic with his knowledge of the area. The helicopter is comfy and if your scared of flying then dont be! This is easy and you will be so amazed at what you see !!!
Before coming to Kauai, we had read every review and decided we DEFINITELY had to do the helicopter tour. We researched ever company and for the price and value we decided on Blue Hawaiian because of their Eco-Star style Helicopter (giant windows and elevated back seats) and also Costco was selling their gift-cards for (79.99 for $100) We went on a Sunday morning at 9am. There were about 2 other large groups also flying out at the same time. By no means am I not saying that Kauai is not beautiful by air It was very very beautiful. BUT all 6 of us were underwhelmed. Reading previous glowing reviews, and everyone saying it was the absolute HIGHLIGHT of their entire trip... we had very very high expectations. We we were also all very prepared-- we dressed ALL in black, and had our sea-bands and some of us even had prescribe scopolamine patches (to prevent motion sickness). I highly recommend doing that. We did not have any major reflective issues, but our skin and feet still would reflect on to the glass a bit. (see photo) The tour was beautiful.. but again we were underwhelmed... our friends who previously rode on Blue hawaiian had told us they got pretty close to the Jurassic Park waterfall, We kind of just flew over it quickly, also our music wasn't working.. it wasn't till after the waterfall I had realized this must be some kind of glitch. My friend had specifically told me how magical the ride was listening to the Jurassic park theme song while flying over to the falls. We did not experience this at all. I asked for the music to be turned up, but even then some of the songs we could hear, and some of them were extremely faint. Our pilot told us the soundtrack was a bit weird and it was just like that, some songs are extremely loud and some are soft. In our case.. some of the songs we could just barely hear, and some were completely mute. After the tour, I had asked my friends on board if they had the same experience, some said they agreed with me that they couldn't hear a thing, and one said that they could hear just fine and was surprised I asked for it to be louder. Considering how expensive the tour was.. I would have expected the music to be equalized correctly. Music has the ability to manipulate our moods, and I was throughly looking forward to that. Unfortunately... it never quite kicked in for us. Before I knew it the tour was already over. Some recommendations I would have if anyone happens to have a large enough group to basically "charter" the flight. Is to be VERY VERY vocal, and don't be afraid to ask for what you want. I had asked twice for the music to be turned up, but I wished I had just asked again until it was at a level we could clearly hear. At the time I wasn't sure if it was just my headset, and didn't want to be an annoyance to ask once again. After the trip, we were all able to communicate that none of us could hear it, and all of us were a bit disappointed. We had high hopes, and prepared very carefully for this helicopter trip... but it didn't meet our expectations. We really really wanted to love this experience but didn't. We ended up liking the Na-Pali coast tour by boat to see the caves much more. **UPDATED POST**(aka deleted and reposted) I emailed blue hawaiian about my disappointment, and they responded back in less than one day, apologizing and offering a partial refund. Kudos to amazing customer service! They explained that the pilot will do a headset check with all guest on board before departing for his or her flight, but at times the jack or plug for the headset becomes loose with the vibration of the aircraft." They said they would be informing maintenance about this. I appreciate their response and would definitely be willing to give them another shot next time Im in Kauai.
Excellent trip! We thoroughly enjoyed our visual tour of the island with Captain Craig. Breathtaking scenes and interesting commentary throughout. Careful preparation by the ground crew. Highly recommend this tour service.
This truly was an experience not to be missed, while visiting Kauai. I had read most of the information and reviews for all the helicopter companies in Kauai, and decided to go with Blue Hawaiian because of their size, reputation and the kind of helicopters they fly. They do have their detractors, but now I realize that those are isolated events from people not following the rules or being inflexible where flexibility is the key for having an awesome time. We were 3 in our group, and had requested the two front seats for my wife and my 16 yr. old son. Even though they would not promise anything until the very end, they worked hard arranging seat assignments and were able to give us our desired seats. Our heartfelt thanks to the whole crew, for their friendliness and prompt and courteous service, but special thanks to Gregg, who was an awesome pilot! He flew the bird with such elegance and skill, that he put us at ease from the get-go (no easy task with my wife, who was fearful of her first helicopter ride). Gregg took the time to explain everything to us and had the patience to circle time and time again at every landmark that we flew over, so that everyone on board was able to see everything. He took the time to converse with each of us and shared tons of interesting facts and figures (he must be a history buff). He also shared that he flies mostly on the Big Island, so we will be asking for him by name when we visit there next year, and book a tour with Blue Hawaiian (a must, now that we have had the experience in Kauai). All in all, an experience of a lifetime and one to remember for years to come.
