We did this tour in Kauai in October 2012, well worth every penny. The crew were amazing, very friendly and very knowledgable. You get to see places you cannot see by car or boat. Well recommended 5 stars all round, made our trip to Hawaii!

We just did our very first tour of Kauai. Nathan was our Pilot. He was informative, friendly and knowledgable. He answered almost all our questions before we even asked, although any question we did have he answered no problem! Would we do this again....hum, YEAH. So many beautiful places, mother nature at her best. Nathan made sure everyone was given the opportunity to get lots and lots of incredible pictures. Loved it so much, just got off the phone with family telling them it's a MUST next visit. All the staff is friendly. Great job to all of them.

We thoroughly researched all the helicopter tours available on Kau'ai and chose Blue Hawaiian. It was truly a highlight of our trip! We checked in 30 minutes prior to our flight at 2pm at a small shopping center close to Lihue airport. After a safety briefing and video, we were shuttled over to Lihue airport with several other passengers. The helicopter holds 6 passengers and the pilot very comfortably. The pilot and two passengers in the front and 4 passengers in the back. Seating is arranged based on each person's weight. But even if you sit in the back seat, the views are incredible. Don't wear white or bright colored clothing, as you will get the reflection in the photos that you take!! Our flight was just under one hour and our Capitan was very knowledgable. Everyone wears a headset and microphone so you make ask questions and communicate. It is best that you book your flight prior to leaving home, and, be advised that your flight may be cancelled due to bad weather. I would suggest taking your flight early in your vacation and be flexible in case you need to be rescheduled. Although we took a lot of amazing photos, we purchased the video for $25. The helicopter's cameras are attached outside and inside so you get a great perspective of the flight and get to re-live the experience. You may view the video prior to purchasing which cuts out any chance of being disappointed with your video. There are bathroom facilities at the check-in office. Other than your camera, no other carryons are allowed. You may safely store your camera bags and purses at the check-in office. Blue Hawaiian was a very professional outfit that I would highly recommend to anyone!

This is our third trip to the island of Kauai and wanted to see those spots we've missed out on. The choice of Blue Hawaiian was easy with their spot running on the local network and National Geographic choosing them. Nathan our pilot was professional and informative. He was knowledgeable of the islands history and landmarks. The views offered by the helicopter cannot be seen any other way.The Blue Hawaiian staff was warm, helpful and very professional. On a side note for photographers, wear dark clothing, turn off flash on the camera. Bring a mid range telephoto.

What a wonderful ride. It's the only way to see the inner parts of the island. It's a little pricey but for a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, it's worth it to splurge. The ride's a bit bumpy but I think that's just the nature of a helicopter ride. We had wonderful weather so it wasn't that. Makes it tough to take a clear picture sometimes but if you take enough of them, some will come out good. Just don't spend all your time with your camera. Enjoy the view. I'd recommend buying the DVD of your actual flight so you can relive your ride whenever you want. Enjoy!

I flew on my first-ever real helicopter tour today. What a great thing to do on the first day of a trip to beautiful Hawaii. The Blue Hawaii operation, currently located in the Harbor Mall shopping center in Lihue but with a new building being constructed at the Lihue airport, came across as quite professional. They do schedule your arrival times so that no one is late for the safety video or the bus. I'm sure this is due to people underestimating the time to move around the island at lower speed limits than the mainland might offer for inter-city driving. It makes the front-end of the trip quite predictable, which is a nice thing. We enjoyed browsing the model trains and other items at the hobby and toy store across the mall (50 feet away). Bathrooms were two doors down from the store. The warm-up video (as people were being seated) featured fabulous HD aerial footage accompanied by Hawaiian history and legends. The safety video was interesting, since I've never ridden on a helicopter tour. We donned our PFD "fanny packs" and headed out to the bus. The bus was a well-equipped Ford E350 van (V10 Triton engine!) and took us to the airport, which seemed just a few (<10) minutes away. We were quickly assigned to a 'copter and seat number (weight distribution must be calculated) and, after a minute or two, ushered to the helipad. One by one, we were called to board the helicopter, strapped in with four-point seatbelts and given our noise-cancelling headsets (which make a world of difference given the amount of noise inside a helicopter; we heard the pilot and a soothing variety of well-chosen tour-music, like Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries). The boarding operation took perhaps five minutes before the pilot explained a bit about the helicopter and then revved up for our take-off. Of course the scenery was astonishing, the pilot's narration was fascinating, and the entire experience was fabulous. I can't say enough nice things about it; you must experience it for yourself! I found that my tummy didn't like some of the short-term descents, although this is nothing serious. I think the thing that really impressed me most was the pilot's (Jimmy) professionalism and skill. He made it look so easy while telling stories of landowners, geology, history, movie production (lots of movie stories), flora, fauna, and more. He was truly a skilled professional. Our return to the store was delayed by one of the three helicopter's tourists, as that flight had left late. C'est la vie on vacations, eh? Instead of photographs through the glass windows which keep you protected not only from falling out but also from the outside weather, the nice folks at Blue Hawaii make available (US$25, total) a video of your own actual flight (you can see which camera is 'filming' at any given time on a monitor at the front of the helicopter). I haven't viewed mine yet, but I'm told the music we listened to and the pilot's narration (and tourists' questions) will be on it in addition to the footage from all the sights we saw exactly as we saw them. We had a pleasant lunch at The Feral Pig while Blue Hawaii checked and reproduced the DVD. All-in-all, I thought Blue Hawaii was running an extraordinarily competent operation with top-notch helicopters and pilots. I felt safe and properly managed throughout the experience and, despite a 20 minute delay in returning to the store, would recommend them without reservations. Enjoy it early in your stay so you can make sure you know what you want to see on the rest of the island.

We heard that the only way to see the Napali Coast and Waimea Canyon was by helicopter. They were spectacluar, but you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it! It's a once in a lifetime experience - worth the investment. The crew, and our pilot Brandyn were great - photos galore - the breath-taking scenery and even some whales playing off the coast! Big wraps to Brandyn and his best attempts at trying to teach me how to speak Texan! :-)

We had booked helicopter tours on both the Big Island (Hilo) and Kauai through NCL. After our helicopter tour in Hilo (different helicopter company), we were not expecting much. Boy were we ever wrong. I was so glad I ordered the DVD of our flight beforehand. Jimmy was our pilot and he provided great narrative and music for our flight. We saw the entire island from the air. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend this tour, and be sure to buy the DVD so you can relive this amazing journey.

I must admit I was very nervous about taking a helicopter ride, but this company put me at ease as soon as we arrived, and I could not be happier I took this tour!! This is the only way to see Kauai, absolutely incredible views I can't even describe. I thought it was expensive, but it is worth every penny for this once in a lifetime experience. We lucked out and sat in the front seats - it is all done by weight and you can't request seats, but I was thrilled to be in the front! I get motion sickness VERY badly in all types of vehicles, but I took Dramamine before the flight and had no problems at all. Jason was our pilot and he was awesome - funny, informative, and answered all of our questions. We chose Blue Hawaiian because our guidebook, Kauai Revealed, said it was the best - it was. When you see the Blue Hawaiian helicopters next to all the other tour company's helicopters, you will see what I'm talking about. The helicopter was comfortable, spacious, had air conditioner, Bose headphones and microphones so we could talk to each other and the pilot during the ride. Do not miss the opportunity to see Kauai by air and do it with Blue Hawaiian!!

Great Flight, Pilot Geoff was very informative & made us feel safe. This was my second Heli trip on Kauai and it never get's old. Worth every penny you spend.

Very good tour, at least if you have a window sit (like me). It's a nice and modern 6 sitter, but I am not sure you can see much if you have a middle sit in the second row. THEY decide where you sit, not YOU (to balance the copter, etc.). The tricky part is to find their office at Harbor Mall, but most people manage it. Another trick is to make sure you get YOUR flight recorded on DVD, not a generic flight. Otherwise, it's a fantastic experience, and the only way to see the island at its entirety and full beauty. Eco-Star helicopter is very convenient, you'll feel safe at all times whether you are a 10-year old or an 80+.

This was an AMAZING trip! It was an incredibly way to see the island. We were a bit nervous but after our pilot told us he flew helicopters in the US Armed Forces while being shot at...we realized we were in really good hands. We loved the soundtrack too. I would recommend this trip to EVERYONE! What a way to see and appreciate this beautiful island!

Our pilot Geoffery's less-is-more commentary style and deadpan jokes combined with stunning scenery and unparalleled smooth flying made this a fantastic tour. When in Kauai, this is the thing to do... Don't second guess, go for it. You won't regret it!

I'll admit I was a little nervous to take a helicopter ride, but was strongly encouraged by other friends to do this while in Kauai. Nate was an EXCELLENT pilot and guide for Blue Hawaiian Helicopter company. We give a special thanks to Nate for providing his superb qualifications as a pilot (previously flew in Iraq with the military), and for navigating in such a way that all could see and enjoy the beautiful sights. The overall tour was well done from start to finish - organized and efficient. Wonderful experience!

Not too long ago I lived and worked in Hawaii as a Helicopter Tour Pilot. I get asked all the time by my friends and colleagues about the Tours and advice when visiting Hawaii. For those of you lucky enough to fly I would give you the following counsel; 1.) Always call the Helicopter Operator DIRECT, and ask for the DIRECT BOOKING PRICE! If you use the old fashioned Yellow Pages and call direct, you will ALWAYS save $$$. This is because ALL of the Helicopter Tour Companies pay enormous commissions to Hotel's that book your flight, as well as "Tour or Activity Desks". This coupled with the Time Share people ensure that Helicopter Companies pay out Commissions to them on YOUR flight. The commission rate is all over the map, but it normally is around 30%. 2.) Fly Early! In the morning the air is nearly always cooler and calmer, it usually is also much clearer and visability is better. For those of you that get airsick easily this is a must. You improve your odds greatly of not getting sick. If you fly in the morning you should have better visability and a smoother ride. If you do start feeling sick, 1.) look straight ahead at the horizon 2.) BREATH NORMALLY! 3.) Don't bend forward 4.) Dont cross your arms or legs 5.) Relax, your in Hawaii! 3.) DONT FLY IN A STARS! Most of the operators fly these French Helicopters because compared to American built Helicopters they are cheap. Blue Hawaiian and Tropical are my two favorites. Blue still flies a few AStars, but mostly the Echo Star. The Echo Star is French, but it is a good aircraft and it is safe and comfortable. A Stars in my opinion (I have good reason) are Bad Birds...(Dangerous). The best helicopter in the air there is either the Echo Star (Blue Hawaiian) or the Bell 407 (Tropical). Both companies have had accidents, as have nearly every company in Hawaii. This doesn't mean its too dangerous, it is still far more dangerous to go swimming than flying. Blue and Tropical are obsessed with safety and quality, and both are family owned and wonderful people. 4.) Tip your Pilot - As a former Tour Pilot I can tell you that this is literally how we survive. Tip your pilot no different than you would a waiter in a fancy restaurant. 15% to 20% is good. The companies in Hawaii don't pay as well as they say they do. Most Pilots in Hawaii make around $60k a year with the older Vets making about $80k per annum. This includes tips and although it sounds like a lot, is not a lot in Hawaii. Hawaii is REAL expensive and that $20.00 tip you gave will likely contribute greatly to the Pilots monthly grocery or fuel bill. It is good Karma and Pele will insure the rest of your vacation is a delight! 5.) Last but not least, drive yourself if you have a rental car to the Helipad. Sometimes there are temporary weather delays or a last minute mechanical issue (Don't worry). This way you can jump in your car and run to the store or grab a bite to eat while you are waiting for the Tour Company to call your cell and give you the green light to return.
