This is my third trip by helicopter over the Big Island of Hawaii. It was cloudy on and off, and we had a little rain. The pilot was very good and worked around weather issues. The flight was a circle island, which took us over the breakouts on the east rift zone over the volcano, and he made sure everyone had a good view of the flows and skylights, even though they were minimal. The flight was a little longer than the 2 hours suggested as the pilot flew in a different than usual order due to weather. He gave a good narration and little known information about the island.
I'm not sure I said more than Wow over and over again during my 2 hour flight. I was amazed and awed over and over again. From the volcano to the keyhole with the waterfalls. Toshi our pilot was fantastic and so knowledgeable. I can't think of a better way to see the island
We are a family of 4 (kids 9 and 7). Took the tour to the volcano and waterfalls. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. And do the waterfall landing- it is totally worth it! Our pilot, Ian, was fantastic, engaging with the kids and really made it memorable. And the heli was first class. Definitely the best adventure of the trip!
Our pilot was so amazing. Took us on a great tour of the volcano and over the big Island. Would go on this tour again. Loved every minute of it!
My 20 year old daughter and I did a 45 min flight on Blue Hawaiian yesterday. Our experience is summarised as follows; PILOT - our pilot was Jeremy who was awesome. Very knowledgable, knew when turn to give everyone a chance to take photo's and provided a smooth ride HELICOPTER - modern, tidy appeared well maintained (not that I'm an expert) and flew well. Modern equipment including headphones and microphones LENGTH OF TRIP - I felt the 45 min trip was about right and gave us a good idea of what the island has to offer (which from Waikiki you wouldn't have a clue about) TIPPING - coming from Australia, I wasn't sure what to do, but read a few other reviews and gave Jeremy $50 (for two of us) which I think he was happy with. LESSONS LEARNED - (1) I read (on the way there at 3.30pm) in another review, to go in the morning when the weather is usually better. (2) Do this at the beginning of your visit to Oahu as the ride gave me about five other activities I'd like to do in Hawaii, which sadly we ran out of time for.
We have never flown in a helicopter and I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect. It was one of the best experiences we have enjoyed and would highly recommend it to anyone. Blue Hawaiian helicopters are very professional and have the latest start of the art helicopters. You can purchase a digital video of your flight at the end of your trip.
Julie was our pilot. She was really nice and they tell you about the turns and changes in elevation so you know what's happening. She also turned the helicopter around so everyone could see the different important sights. It's a great way to see the island.
Great pilot, very good equipment and a fabulous day. Go explore the island from the skies, it's simply amazing. We have used Blue Hawaiian on Maui and Big Island, always very happy with their quality and service. Why mess with success!
My wife and I had driven the previous day to Waimea Canyon and it was beautiful. So on Saturday January 30, 2016 I called to make reservations for 3 pm. Staff was very helpful. We were the first to make a reservation and they need 4 to fly. They took my cell number and said they would call by noon to let us know if we were going to fly. Within 45 minutes they called back saying we were flying! Auto Club would save us 10%. I said I would go to Costco and buy the gift cards to pay with. I was told "one discount or the other, can not double dip". Our total price was $492 so I bought $500 worth of gift cards for $400 at Costco. With my $8 credit, they don't give cash back, I bought a t-shirt. Well run operation and first class pilots! Waimea Canyon had rain, we didn't see the sights since it was not safe to fly in the canyon. If you have a clear day and you are thinking of doing this, DO IT!! I was going to buy the dvd of our trip, but all the rain on the cameras didn't make it worth the $40, so I will have the memories in my mind. Helicopter holds 6 guests. 2 in the front, along with the pilot and 4 in the rear. The seats in the rear are higher than the front seats. Wife was next to the door so I had to look over her to the side for that view, and then I had 2 people in front of me. Taking photos was difficult since I had a shoulder in almost every shot. Our pilot had extra time since we couldn't do Waimea Canyon so he took us out on the North Shore to look for humpback whales. He found a mom and calf and we stayed with them for a few minutes. Rain, sun shine, this trip is worth it. Costco made it affordable!
Been to Kauai before this trip, but never took the helicopter tours. There are several different companies to choose from. From what I read, all are good. Decided to take the tour this time. Would highly recommend doing this on first visit. Gives one a better perspective of the island! There were six passengers in the helicopter plus the pilot. Marty, our pilot was very knowledgeable and professional. Felt like the company was run very efficiently. We were told what time to arrive. Had a safety film and given instructions about emergency situations. Have read other comments about people not happy with seating assignments. Well, most of us learn in elementary school that we cannot always be "first in line". My husband and I were sitting in the back (no we did not have front row seats!), however we had good views . After the ride, one is able to purchase a video of the tour they took! A great way to share the sights with others!
I love the helicopter tour! You can't beat a tour where you see breath taking waterfalls and actual lava coming out of an active volcano! Our pilot Shane was great about including all the guest in conversation. He also let us hear the radio talk and explained what and why things were being said. He was also very good about creating suspense to what you were about to see, it's like the anticipation before you open a present. Very rarely does a tour both get my adridalin going and educate me. I would highly recommend this tour. I was also very impressed with the efficiency and timeliness of the procedures before and after the helicopter ride.
We did the Big Island Tour. It is expensive but totally worth it! Our pilot, Marco, did a great job! We felt very safe with him and he provided a great tour. He was very personable, great knowledge of the island, and made it a fun tour too. He told many stories of the island both historical and fun too. We recommended the tour to many people we met on the island. Great job!! The two hour tour went by way too fast!! Loved it!!
My adult son, husband and I all went on our 1st helicopter ride and what a place to do it. The 45 minute tour took us all over the highlights of Oahu. My husband, a military enthusiast, loved the USS Arizona memorial and Schofield Barracks. Our experienced pilot was Lauren. Helicopter was brand new and in excellent condition. Definitely worth the money.
Was a little nervous about flying in a helicopter since I'm scared to do roller coasters. Five minutes into the flight, I was at ease and enjoying my scenic tour of Oahu. Special thanks to our Pilot, Butch, a retired Army pilot. Our flight was comparable to a smooth drive through the park.....I highly recommend this tour - - and ask for Butch.
the only way to see the island for all its beauty is from the air.... and Blue Hawaiian ticked all the boxes, the pilot knew her history and landmarks with confidence. Our trip was also recorded via video and this was offered to us at a very reasonable cost either by DVD our memory stick...... highly recommended
