This was our second time on the Blue Hawaiian Helicopters in Kauai! We returned this year bringing our son with us. We did this tour on a Frommer's recommendation. The company is well organized, putting safety first! The tour was fantastic and this time, our pilot Michael, was absolutely the best ever. We purchased the DVD of our tour this time and it was worth every penny ($25) as it is an actual DVD of the tour you are taking with video of yourself in the cockpit. Don't waste your time taking your own videos and pictures as it can't compare with those on the DVD. If you don't do anything else while in Kauai, I would highly recommend taking this tour.
It was a really amazing experience. I will recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopters to anyone who travels to Hawaii. It allowed us to see so much more of Kauai. It is such a beautiful island.
The trip topped off our vacation. It was an experience we will always remember. The pilot was smooth and really made us feel safe and comfortable. The music really added to the experience. The views were spectacular.
Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour and specifically Geoffrey the pilot was outstanding! I was concerned about safety but Geoffrey set out minds at ease because he was a former military helicopter pilot and had tons of experience. He also has a calm and relaxing voice that matches the serene and majestic beauty if Kauai! The very subtle but perfected selected background music added that special touch that allowed for another sense to be part of the experience! Kauai has so much beauty that can not be seen from any other vantage point so the helicopter tour is soooo special!!!! Truly truly di not miss this!!!
Splurge and make this trip a part of our Kauai experience. We celebrated our son's 9th birthday with this helicopter tour of the island and it was worth every penny! Double rainbows, amazing waterfalls and scenery capture all of our hearts on the one-hour trip. With Jurassic Park music in the background as we came up close to a breathtaking 3,000 ft waterfall, all five of us were speechless. My only piece of advice is to book this EARLY in your trip. Tours can be canceled due to weather. We booked this on the day before we left to coincide with the birthday, and we almost didn't get to go due to cloud cover. You want to have some options of times, etc if this happens to you. Also, know that your placement on the helicopter is based on weight so you may not get to sit next to each other or where you specifically want to sit. If you have any questions or concerns about this, you need to let them know when you check in and they will do their best to accommodate.
Had the most amazing time on our Blue Hawaiian Helicopter ride over Kauai. Our pilot, Joffrey, first reassured us that safety is first (which it was) and every step of the process was easy from check-in to landing. The ride was 100% amazing as we flew over, around and by the most beautiful things on the planet, like the Waimea Canyon, the Na Pali Coast, mountains that are 5000 feet high, 2000 foot waterfalls, etc. The journey was amazing and is one of the top 2 things I would recommend to people to do while visiting Kauai! Jaw dropping experience! Thank you Blue Hawaiian!
Absolutely the way to see Kauai! The Blue Hawaiian had a courteous staff. Brendyn was our pilot and was very good at not only his craft but at also the trip narrative. He maneuvered the craft in such a way that our party of 5 was able to gain a great vantage point of the numerous waterfalls and canyons encountered on the trip. My teenagers all commented that this was a “very cool thing” to do- so that’s saying something! The helicopter seemed to be very safe and the noise cancelling headphones made hearing the music and pilot no issue. We also bought the DVD of our trip for $25. The pizza joint beside the Blue Hawaiian check-in area (Rocco's) was decent pizza and even served by the slice, if desired.... Even with the high price this is a highly recommended 55 minute activity!
We were a group of four and we wanted the helicopters with the best view. Pretty impressed by the view, though I got lucky and the computer placed me in front to the right. If you're in the back left, don't despair, the pilot turns around to give you a view too. They don't waste time. You can check in early at their offices, get weighted, go for lunch in the mall. When you come back, you sit down for a 5 min instructional video, they give you the life jackets ( no parachutes baby) and off you go to the shuttle. At the airport, the choppers from the previous group arrived in a few min. People got off, we took pictures with the chopper, and got it. Super fast and to the point. You won't feel rushed because the staff is very friendly and will help you buckle in and use your mic. My pilot was average as an entertainer, had good knowledge but isn't as funny. It's a nice touch to have music play, and they cue it up at one point when the pilot takes you to this breathtaking place. I've been on helicopter rides before and music goes so well with this activity, it seems that every shop should implement this (was it patented? Damn you anti competitive laws). I get seasick easily and I'll add that I felt nauseous on the way back after some acrobatics. My dad got sleepy. Everyone else were fined though. If you get nauseous easily or are deadly afraid of heights then don't do this activity, but for everyone else, there are two moments on this ride were my heart stopped and the beauty before me sucked the whole of my mind in. Whether you fly with this company or another, if you're going to Hawaii, this on top of my list of things to do. And invite all the people you care about too. The second experience to do would be the manta dive in Kona :)
the tour was well organized and the pilot we had (barreth) was great, very experienced and funny. the tour offers a great view of the inland island as most of it is private and unaccessible. we'd reccommend the tour and hopefully we ourself will join it again in another island (maui?) next year
Great trip. Perfect way to see the island. Couldn't have been better. Excellent narration by the pilot.
Took a tour with Pilot Geoff on the island of Kauai. Our pilot was fantastic, funny and informative with just the right amount of commentary. His musical selections perfectly described the mood and scenery. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something amazing and memorable. The staff at Blue Hawaiian were professional and friendly. They made us feel very safe and went out of there was to make this a wonderful adventure. I can not say enough nice things about the staff. Thanks again for making my 29 th birthday so special Oh and if u have an extra $25 grab a copy of the DVD. These are moments you will want to replay again and again
Hands down, this was the most incredible tour I have ever taken. We did the 55 minute island tour with an excellent pilot who explained what we were looking at as we flew around the island. It was absolutely mind-boggling how beautiful it was. The wall of tears, Na Pali coast, Hanalei bay - all just absolutely spectacular as seen from the sky in a helicopter. Pilot took the time to turn around at each key location so both sides of the helicopter could see everything. The helicopters are also equipped with multiple cameras, so your trip is recorded - absolutely amazing memory! I can't recommend this tour/company enough. Very highly recommended.
The weather was clear and perfect and the pilot was so knowledgeable. Much better than our first ride in 1996. The crater is awesome as is the Napili coast!
Blue Hawaiian is obviously the busiest operator on the Island with three helicopters running almost non-stop. Despite this, they are well organized and things move smoothly. Our pilot, Vince, called each of us by name. He was very personable, extremely polished and knowledgeable. He had the perfect balance of explanation and knowed when we just wanted to be awed. I cannot imagine a better trip or better pilot. Everyone on the flight remarked that it was the best activity we have ever done on the Island.
Hands down the high light of our trip. The cost was $200 each but worth it. The helicopters are new and large. Our pilot was very informative. The views from the helicopter are unparalled and you fly right into the crater of the island. My only complaint is that they require you to come to the office and check in, even if it appears fairly obvious that the weather will prevent the flight. If you cancel without coming to the office, you lose you're payment; if you come to the office and they cancel, you can reschedule. Perhaps all the helicopter companies have the same policy, but it might be worth investigating what you have to do to get your flight rescheduled if the weather is bad.
