This was a great tour and worth the money. We chose the more updated tour package, with the more up to date helicopter. There were 8 of us on board including the pilot. The pilot was very knowledgeable and told a lot of history about the island. We were able to see whales and go into a valley to see waterfalls. He also took us over the active volcano. Even through my husband was disappointed with the amount of lava flow that he saw, overall the trip was well worth the money spent.
We took the Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour this morning and it was a spectacular experience! The entire operation was well organized, customer focused, and safety oriented. From calling to book, through purchasing our much anticipated DVD of the trip, everything was easy and convenient. The tour itself...priceless. Shea was our pilot and he did a FANTASTIC job describing the breathtaking sights. It was an unforgettable experience and I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Kauai.
After having 2 boat trips canceled due to rough waters we decided to book the helicopter. Called around a bunch of places, but Blue Hawaiian had the best reputation and reasonable price. There were companies that had cheaper, but found other ways to stiff you, or others that were far more $$. Excellent tour! Great views and pilot Geoffrey was very friendly and informative!! Would recommend! Got some amazing photos and the 50 minute flight with relaxing music seemed longer than it was.
I'm afraid of heights but had no trouble on this tour. It was actually quite smooth. Trip from Waikoloa to the waterfalls on the east side of the island take you over the Parker Ranch (over 100,000 acres), rural estates, and then to the wet side of the island. The waterfalls were flowing heavy, offering great photo ops. We also flew along the east side of the island and could see groups of waterfalls (several hundred feet tall) falling into the ocean. You just can't see these waterfalls from the ground and can't get as close in a boat. After the waterfalls, we flew back to the dry side of the island and viewed whales just off the coast. The tour offers a unique perspective of the island. I will note that you will be there viewing a safety video and waiting for about an hour prior to boarding your helicopter.
We enjoyed the ride and found seeing Kauai from the air was well worth the money. We took some spectacular photos and had a beautiful day for a flight. Mark was our pilot and he did a great job showing us the sights and flying very smoothly. We were in one of the newer helicopters and the bigger engine really made flying up and into the valleys almost seem easy. The flight was smooth and turbulent free. We would highly recommend Blue Hawaiian again.
The flight was absolutely amazing! Breathtaking scenery, an excellent and knowledgeable pilot, and well-worth it. Shay took the time to interact with each of us during the flight, and made it a memorable experience. We'll have to fly Blue Hawaiian on the other islands when we visit. This is definitely an anniversary to remember! Mahalo!
This was our second tour with Blue Hawaiian, having used them a week earlier out of Hilo to see the lava flow, we had no hesitation booking with them again on Kauai. We were not disappointed! The scenery in Kauai is so breathtakingly beautiful from the air almost anyone could run a helicopter tour and score 5 star reviews. The good thing about Blue Hawaiian is they run an impressively tight operation with great equipment and great staff, making the experience thoroughly enjoyable. Our pilot, Marty, was a true professional and flew beautifully, ensuring everyone had an opportunity to see and take photos of all the major sights. We learnt a lot about the island as we made our way around it. The Na Pali coastline is breathtaking from the air and Marty was able to show us some incredible valleys in a way you can achieve only in a helicopter. The aircraft was a 2013 model Eurocopter EC-130 "ecostar" which was air conditioned and comfortable. I had one of the middle seats in the row of 4 at the back which was fine providing whoever is next to you doesn't mind you leaning over them to take photos. They are fitted with Bose noise cancelling headsets which allow you to hear the pilot's commentary and a surprisingly well thought out soundtrack. You can ask questions as you go using a microphone. The company provides a thorough safety briefing before departure and will lend black shirts to anyone who is wearing light colours to avoid reflections ruining everyone else's photos. You can't take any bags on board, so fit a wide lens with a polarising filter to your SLR before you go. Highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Kauai (and Hilo). It's a great operation and was one of the highlights of our trip. PS. We were able to get a discounted rate for being employed in the airline industry. Take your ID and ask when you make the reservation.
Out of this world.....great experience!!! pilot was a great guide and knew the ins and outs of the island. Views were unbelievable. Recommend to anyone. Brought a video of our flight, cameras in and out of helicopter so you have the whole experience on film to buy (DVD). Music plays in your ear, along with talking to pilot back and forth in your earphones given to you at the beginning. Safety is a big factor so you are instructed ahead of flight as to what to expect. This made my whole trip!!!!!
We had a flight with Blue Hawaii after the door-off helicopter was cancelled due to bad weather and unable to reschedule with Harters again. It seemed the Blue Hawaii was very attentive on safety briefing and they provide lockers and black shirt..what was not perfect is the helicopter do not have small sliding windows for taking pictures...Further, I purchased the video disc and they provided me the wrong disc. When I come to their office for a change, they said their system was in trouble. They deliver me the disc by Fedex and charged me for the delivery,,,A little disappointment on this,,,Except all this, the flight is good and it is a good company...
I've been visiting/staying on Kauai for the last 20 years and have always wanted to see it from the air. I've been on plenty of boat rides around the island, all the back roads by car or hiking, and practically every beach on the island but knew I was missing out on the inaccessible interior of the island. I was lucky enough to have Waimea Plantations Cottages finally set up a helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian and it was amazing! Like many reviewers I'm afraid of heights and had never been on a helicopter tour and I was totally at ease and appreciated our pilot Mark’s composure and calm demeanor as it calmed me as well, the smooth smooth flight didn't hurt! Even after having spent so much time on the island I was amazed at seeing it from the air. I'd recommend this trip to anyone and really think it's the only way to have a complete visit to Kauai. The new Blue Hawaiian facility was lovely and made the whole experience feel top notch. Mahalo!
I'm terribly scared of heights- but I knew this was an event not to be missed! How often can you FLY over Hawaii? The safety training before was great but our pilot was what made the difference! He was calm and made us feel safe. I was lucky enough to get a window seat (seats are assigned by weight and distributed around the helicopter by assignment). The views are breathtaking!! Do this trip no matter what! It's worth every penny and will be something you remember forever and ever! TIP: if you go, please wear dark colored clothing so that you don't reflect on the huge windows causing glare for picture taking.
We have visited Kauai many times in the past several years and have always planned on taking a tour of the island to see other 65% that we have never seen. We flew with Brodi yesterday and were so impressed with his knowledge and history of the island. The fact that he grew up on Kauai made it even more special. His compassion and personal attention to every guest (by name) really made us feel like Ohana. My wife does not like to fly… after the flight she asked to take another… that says it all for us. We definitely recommend Brodi.
I'll be honest, it wasn't my idea to do this. I was pretty much encouraged by my husband. It wasn't that I was scared...well, maybe a little...but my main objective here on the amazing Island of Kauai was to hike the NaPali Coast and we'd done that. I just wasn't sure a helicopter tour would add all that much more (besides expense). I was wrong. For one thing, you see so much more than the NaPali Coast (although that stretch of the flight is worth the money alone). Some tour books I read recommended doing this early in your stay but we found doing it after we'd hiked the Coast and canyon was especially cool because we could see where we'd been. Our pilot, Mark, had 26+ years of flying experience and had us feeling completely at ease. I even enjoyed the music selections he played at various points in the tour mixed in with him telling us about the Island. We had microphones and could ask questions but I kept quiet (unusual for me!) because I was in such complete and total AWE from lift off to landing. Actually, I'm still in awe. I'm also still in Kauai or I would have included some pictures I took. Most every picture turned out beautifully despite the window. We went on a pretty clear afternoon, 3:30 flight. Check in was 2:45 and you watch a safety video before hand. Flight itself was about 50-55 minutes and, again, I cannot say enough positive about Mark. He made sure both sides if seating good spectacular views and opportunities for photos. The entire staff and setting was geared for safety and making this a once in a lifetime experience. Wow. Really. Do it.
We did the Big Island Spectacular with the optional waterfall landing. What and experience! I booked the entire helicopter for the four of us. The choppers hold six guests so we had two empty seats which was nice. The pilot was terrific. We flew over the volcano and saw the lava flowing. Our pilot made sure that both sides of the helicopter had great views. We then proceeded to the coast and went to the waterfall landing. After getting out and taking pictures, we loaded back up and flew through some of the most beautiful valleys full of waterfalls on our way back. This tour is well worth the money. Don't miss it!
Pilot "Julie" was a wonderful pilot...explained all of the points of interest as we flew around the island! We always wanted to do the helo tour... sure glade we chose Blue Hawaiian Tours! :) We thoroughly enjoyed our tour flight with Julie...she's the best and your ground crew also did an outstanding job greeting us with the Aloha spirit, performed a professional brief before the flight and ensured everyone's safety while on the flight line! Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours is the BEST in my book! :) Mahalo to the entire staff!!! Chris & Marlene from Littleton, Colorado
