Best experience I had during my trip. It felt like I was flying on a magic carpet through the beautiful canyons, waterfalls and Napali Coast of Kauai. Not only was the actual ride breathtaking and smooth we learned a ton of fascinating facts about the island from our pilot (Shea). He was so mellow during the entire flight; the dramatic background music made it feel like I was in a movie. I had a ton of questions and special requests to accommodate my 1 year old and all the workers were so sweet and helpful. We went with this company over the others due to safety records and price. You can't leave Kauai without experiencing the Napali Coast, waterfalls & canyons and there is no better way to do it! Tip: Wear a solid dark top/shirt otherwise they'll have you wear a black T-Shirt over your clothes to prevent glare in pictures.
They provide an exceptional experience to compliment the amazing views of The Garden Island. I highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopters! Our pilot (Miguel) was extremely personable and provided plenty of interesting info about the island. He delivered a smooth flight and stunning views of this amazing island. Most importantly, we made a nice and smooth landing! The waiting area is super comfortable, clean, cool, organized, and inviting. The check in and safety briefing were very organized and easy experiences. They offer nice souvenirs, but they don't beat you down with upgrade or add-on offers, and you get a fantastic experience for your standard ticket. The optional personalized video of your flight is a nice addition at $25, but I wouldn't say it's a must-have. The standard DVD has some amazing views and history of all the islands.
Blue Hawaiian had excellent customer service! We did the whole island tour which was 50 minutes, well worth every penny. You get to see what seems like hundreds of waterfalls that you would never see from driving the island. Some are thousands of feet tall! Our pilot Barrett, was extremely knowledgeable about the whole island, lots of fun facts. They fly you right up to some of the waterfalls and a caldera. I was focused on taking really good photos which is tough to do from inside a helicopter with glass between you and the landscape, even though everyone was wearing dark clothes to minimize glare. I was able to get some good shots but it was difficult to eliminate glare. If your really into photography I would recommend doing a tour with the helicopter doors off. Otherwise this tour will work just fine.
My daughter (11) and I took a helicopter tour of Kauai at the end of June at 8am. It was quite expensive, $433 for the two of us, so I had high expectations. I found the employees professional and courteous, but not as friendly and engaging as most other people on the island, especially in the tourist industry. The flight was beautiful, made more interesting and educational by our pilot, Brody, who provided us with history and information about the island, the culture and the topography. I enjoyed hat he was a native. I was very disappointed that the billed 50-55 minute flight landed after 45 minutes. It wasn't just our helicopter; the one that left minutes before us had already landed as well. I also felt that my middle, back seat had too obstructed a view and the glare on the Windows made it difficult to take photos. It was a fun experience, but unless you've got money to burn, I'd recommend a hike along the Napali Coast or a boat ride instead.
Our family of 6 took the tour of Kauai earlier this week, filling one helicopter. Our pilot, Geoff, was a retired Army pilot and a proud Kauai native. He was very knowledgable about the island, its' history and answered all of our many questions. We had been warned about the air traffic by friends, but he put us at ease and was clearly a very skilled pilot. There was not a time where we felt too close to other aircraft or anything but safe. We warned our kids about the dreaded "middle seats" and explained the seating was pre-determined by size and age. Even our one son and my husband had a great flight and wonderful views from the middle seats. The helicopter had a lot of glass for great views and was very modern and comfortable. Two of my sons had GoPros and they got great footage & we took a lot of gorgeous photos as well. Cameras were allowed, but no stick mounts. We appreciated Geoff's easy going but professional manner and all the local information he gave us - we took many of his suggestions and loved them all. Would definitely recommend Blue Hawaii and our specific pilot to anyone for incredible aerial views of an unbelievably beautiful island.
I don't know what I could possibly add to what has already been said, except if you are coming to Kauai, you MUST view the island by helicopter. The grand beauty of the island is best viewed by air. Today, we flew with pilot Shane and he is great. I want his job. I am lucky to be here visiting with my parents and sister's family and this will definitely be a highlight.
Worth every penny spent! We were in the EcoStar and it was a very comfortable ride. Greg was our pilot and was super friendly. I was impressed that he remembered all of our names, too! We were able to see great views of the lava and the waterfalls. I would definitely do another tour with Blue Hawaiian!
It's hard to compare companies as we only did 1 helicopter ride and it was our first ever. Since everyone we spoke with up front recommended Hawaiian Blue and since many news networks and National Geographic work with them a well, we also went with them. The reception staff is not the friendliest by the rest of the staff is great. To void reflection in the cockpit they recommend to wear dark clothes (blue/black) and my wife had brought nothing like that to hawaii. They gave her immediately a clean blue loaner shirt. No regrets of taking the investment in this tour, in contrary we had the most amazing once in a lifetime experience on the Big Island Great Spectacular 2hr tour. Professional staff, very safety oriented, great and highly experienced pilot (Shane), gorgeous 'Ecostar' helicopter with great views in each direction and at the highlights (so many highlights) the pilot ensures that all sides of the helicopter had great views of the sights. He explained a lot and answers all questions fired at him. I easily get air/car/seasick so I took medication for that and had no issues. The helicopter maneuvers smoothly and the little noise is filtered greatly due to. Noise canceling headphones. We were extremely lucky with the clear and calmest weather we had! Also the other 4 tourists who flew with us stated it was their best experience ever as they all had done helicopter flights before. The interaction between pilot and the tourists is phenomenal and the personalized DVD is a must. Very well organized and safe trip - one we will never forget. We recommend to do this experience early on during you vacation as it might alter the plans for the rest of the week as suddenly you understand the island much better and new highlight will be added to your further on ground experiences. Big Island-spectacular it is!!!
Our pilot, Steve, was awesome! He flew us over fresh magma spewing out of the active volcano and gave us interesting information of the Big Island. Our youngest child has a fear of heights but he put her next to the pilots seat for the duration of our 2 hour trip and she did well! So much to see on this beautiful island and there's no better way to see it than from a helicopter!!! It is worth every penny
AWESOME! Our pilot Dale was the best and so full of knowledge and fun! All 6 of us had our own Eco-Star helicopter and had a blast on the 2 hour tour of the volcano, lava flow and waterfalls. Request Dale as your pilot and tell him the family from Tennessee said hi! Aloha!
Big Island Spectacular tour on Eco-Star worth every penny!
I'm way overdue in posting this review. I guess that's what happens when you leave the oasis that is Kona and return to every day life. I first took a Blue Hawaiian tour two years ago while on a trip to Kona, Hawaii. It was simply spectacular. The tour was to Koala Falls, which were magnificent. I was really nervous, never having been in a helicopter, but the safety demonstration and confidence of the pilot quickly put me at ease. As soon as we started lifting off the ground I was in LOVE with it and knew I would do it again. This year, we booked on Blue Hawaiian again, and it was just as incredible for very different reasons... The weather was not great during our trip. Tours the previous day had been cancelled due to bad weather. Our tour was not cancelled, but we were given the heads up that if something changed while we were in the air, we would return to basecamp. Well... the winds shifted and the tour was cancelled while we were in flight. Our pilot, Tom, was super cool about it, explained the situation and started to turn the chopper. Then we saw the most magnificent thing--a pod of humpback whales, 7 of them--swimming in the ocean. One was swimming upside down (you could see the silver under-fins) and others were breaching the water. I was so excited I didn't even realize my camera lens was touching the window, which made the images blurry. That said, the memory of it will remain in my mind's eye forever... Bonus points to Tom and his sense of humor... as we were flying back he put on the theme to "Top Gun" followed by "Ride of the Valkyries" (Apocalypse Now). We laughed all the way back to the helipad.
This is the best way to see the Big Island. We flew in an Eco-Star helicopter and our pilot, Toshi, was amazing. From the volcanoes, waterfalls and seeing whales breaching... Wow! We've been to the Big Island before but have never seen it like this. Highly recommend Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour!
The flight over the big island was absolutely breathtaking! I had Scott as the pilot and he was very knowledgeable and really nice! He was willing to answer any questions and encouraged the passengers to have a pleasant conversation during the flight. It was truly unforgettable and a must if you visit the big island
We were glad to have booked our helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian. Their helicopters are modern, and our pilot, Tom, was awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Kohala Coast.
