Had an excellent tour of the volcanic activity, waterfalls, and coastline. Not everyone gets to see an active volcano and lava this way. The pilot was very knowledgable and friendly. She engaged each passenger by name. The helicopter itself looked to be the best option, just judging from the other companies' I saw. Tinted windows reduced reflection & glare. It was climate-controlled and spacious. This 5'10" girl had leg room to spare.
I'd never been on a helicopter before which probably isn't shocking. I bet you haven't been on one either. The helicopter is definitely the best and safest way to check out the lava stuff around Hilo, including that crazy guy's house. The scenes are awesome. That being said, you are not Sir Richard Branson riding your private helicopter with the interior done by Gucci. It's not uncomfortable, but neither is it the lap of luxury. Prone to bad motion sickness? This may not be for you.
This company is totally professional, from answering all questions to ensure you get the right trip desired / booking to walking you off the tarmac safely and suggesting a great place to grab a "local style" lunch. My family of 4 did the "Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls" with Capt. Brant Roberts. He was very knowledgeable and kept everyone comfortable and engaged in what he was showing us the whole trip. We were fortunate to see several breakouts (one moving like a slow river), simply astounding to me. All I can say is I don't think you can really appreciate or mentally grasp something like that until you experience it firsthand. All the TV shows and documentaries I've ever watched just can't impress upon your brain how massive, powerful and deadly volcanoes can be. I would definitely recommend this company and particular tour to family, friends or anyone wanting an amazing experience.
Our daughter & son in law gave us the EcoStar Circle of Fire & Waterfall AM Deluxe tour. We were on the Kona side of the Big Island to renew our vows after 43 years and weren't going to take the ride because of the expense. It is TOTALLY worth every penny!! Our excellent pilot, Gregg, has over 10 yrs. of military flying and gave us a beautiful ride and amazing narration of what we were seeing as well as a little history. You won't be disappointed!!
Awesome. Friendly. Good tour. They play music along the flight. Great piloting. Very comfortable. We did the short flight which was awesome, if it were longer it might not be worth the extra cost. Would do again for sure to a different location. Aircraft seemed like they were in great condition. Very smooth piloting despite some rough air.
this was really a well-organized trip. and there is not a bad seat in the plane because it's mostly made of "glass" windows. maybe plexiglass. my main disappointment was the misleading title of the tour "Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls" - no circle of fire at all. at no point do you ever see fire. the volcano you fly over is not erupting. you do see some lava flow on the ground, which is cool, but it's just very slight hints of orange. i totally understand mother nature is unpredictable, but they should update the tour name accordingly. also, the pilot was nice, but 99.9% of the time he was asking questions about the passengers' stays in hawaii, like, "Are you on a cruise? where are you from? How many days are you staying? are you at the beginning or end of your stay? what else are you planning on seeing?" and on and on and on and on and on. i was really irritated because i really wanted to learn more about hawaii and what we were looking at - i could care less about the tourists on our flight.
This is the only helicopter tour I've ever taken so I have nothing to compare it to. I am giving them 4 stars simply because we had a good time. The service was great, very informative and friendly. The staff here all seem to be positive chatty happy people who try to make your tour as pleasant as possible. They even took pictures for us with the helicopter at the airport. Our helicopter captain/tour guide was Tim and he was very nice as well. He answered whatever questions we had during the tour, and provided detailed information on where ever we flew by and looked at. The tour was a bit delayed due to some problem with the helicopter. I was fine waiting since safety does come first! My hubby's headphone wasn't working right and they fixed it right away. They worked hard to make sure the experience is as perfect as it can be for the customers. I probably won't do it again because of the $$$ and I did get a bit sick in the helicopter (even though it seemed like I was the only one getting helicopter-sick), but I recommend everyone to do it at least once. It was quite an experience!
A super special experience! Must go when you visiting Hilo. Our pilot Greg was a really nice guy, knowledgeable and patient. I really enjoyed the flight, the view of the volcano was stunning! Although it's a little bit pricey, it's really worth. The helicopter is very new, I felt very safe during the flight.
My wife and I were gifted this helicopter tour (A star, circle of fire and waterfalls). Blue Hawaiian runs a very efficient operation, and it seemed like safety was their number one concern (as it should be). Our pilot, SCOTT was awesome. Very personable and knowledgeable. We were graced with another day of nice weather in Hawaii, so the ride was smooth. We were able to see an active lava flow tearing into some trees and shrubs. Overall, it was a great experience and we highly recommend Blue Hawaiian.
We booked the volcanos tour in Hilo--pricy, but a fabulous experience. Had a great pilot , Christy, who did a wonderful job, not only of flying, but entertaining us as well. It was a plus that she was a woman! Flew around the crater several times, out to sea, over lava fields, etc. The water falls are not as exciting as those on Kaui, but that is not the tour company's fault. The harbor was beautiful. Overall a great bucket list experience. Everyone was very nice and professional. Only criticism is that for the price, feel the CD should be included.
Our pilot was great! I forgot his name, but he tried to ask the entire group questions during the flight. He was very knowledgeable and tried to show everyone in the helicopter the different sights (volcano & waterfall). He would turn the helicopter around in circle (right turn) then will do it the other way to make sure everyone was able to see the view. Sights we saw: a lot of smoke, lava flow in a crater, rainbow, waterfall, different types of lava
I took the amazing tour over the big island. My pilot was really funny. He was very talkative, and told us facts about the island. We flew over molten lava, waterfalls , and circled the island. This was my first helicopter ride since childhood. It was a tad awkward having to be weighed before the flight to make sure everything balanced out. Having the birds eye view was really neat. Our helicopter had a glass bottom, so we could view from more angles . Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has a high safety record and a professional flight crew. They provide a great service.
Great experience across the board. Heli was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our pilot, Jeremy was friendly and gave a great tour of the volcano. No complaints and would highly recommend to others for the tour.
When our friends and family found out that my husband and I were going to Hawaii they all recommended that we do a helicopter tour. Based on the countless suggestions, we booked a volcano and waterfall tour and were not disappointed. The pilot (I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out) was fabulous and full of information. She flew us over the active volcano and waterfalls on the East side of the island and made sure to do multiple circles around each area so that everyone on the helicopter got a great view and an opportunity to take pictures. She referred to each of us by name ("James, if you look down and to your right you will see..") and told us stories about past volcanic eruptions. The take off, flight and landing were unbelievably smooth. The landing, in particular, was so smooth that I didn't even know we had touched down! My only complaint is that the tours are very pricey. They were comparable to other helicopter companies on the islands, but I still think they are too much. That being said, we are glad that we did the tour and we made memories that will last a lifetime.
My aunt and I took a tour a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Our pilot was Ethan and he was entertaining and very informative. This was my second island helicopter tour in 2 weeks. I did one on Kauai as well. It is a must on these trips to really see the island in depth.
