My wife and I would suggest that you take a ride on Blue Hawaiian when you arrive on Kauai. This fantastic trip allows you to get a good perspective of the many sights of the Island and to plan your adventures with first hand knowledge. Our pilot, Nathan, was highly skilled and interested in pleasing the passengers. He flew through a double rainbow twice so we could see both ends of the rainbow. The ride was comfortable and scenic as we flew over canyons, mountain tops, beaches and waterfalls. This is our second trip with this company, and we highly recommend them.
To be honest, there are few things you can see or do on Kauai that will cost more than a trip on a Blue Hawaiian helicopter. However, in the same vein of honesty, I assure you that it is worth every penny. In a tourism-driven place like Hawaii, helicopter tours are a dime a dozen and many are very, very inexpensive. However, with such low fares I have to wonder how much money those companies invest in maintenance, safety and pilot training. There is no doubt with Blue Hawaiian as we were whisked into the air above Kauai in a state-of-the-art helicopter piloted by a 20-year veteran helicopter pilot with the U.S. Army. Needless to say, we were in safe hands. The tour lasted about an hour and included everything of Kauai you could imagine seeing. In truth, so much of the island is inaccessible by land so unless you take a helicopter tour, you'd be lucky to experience maybe 20% of Kauai. Blue Hawaiian takes you along the shoreline, weaves in and out of the Na Pali coast, cascades over waterfalls and into a dormant volcano crater and still has a few surprises up its sleeves. If you're visiting Kauai and even just considering taking a helicopter tour, don't hesitate and do it. Just make sure it's with Blue Hawaiian...
I recently visited Kauai and got to take a Blue Hawaiian ride. It was FANTASTIC! Loved the entire tour. Our pilot Brandyn was the best! He was great at explaining every sight. We saw whales and spinner dolphins! So beautiful. The music was awesome. Definitely recommend it! Would love to go again.
Jimmy was our pilot and I felt like I was in the hands of a true pro. The whole experience left me awestruck. There is simply no better way to see the 90% of Kauai that is just raw nature. I felt blessed to see the Na'pali coast, complete with a 360 degree rainbow, from the air. It's worth every penny!!
Blue Hawaiian is 1st class operation with phenomenal staff. Our pilot was Nate, with an extensive background of flying heavy helicopters in the National Guard. He really made the experience memorable with his knowledge of the island and interacting with everyone aboard. The views were amazing and was a great way to see the island within 1-hour. TIP - Try to do this on the first day or two of your vacation for 2 reasons: 1) You get a great idea of what areas to drive to and scope out further. 2) The weather can be a little unpredictable so if your flight gets canceled, you have plenty of time to rebook. There are several helicopter companies to book with - They are all probably about the same, however we were told and believe from our experience that Blue is hands-down, the best. The rest of the competition are probably close runner-ups. It's an expensive (approx $200) excursion but well worth it. Everyone had a huge smile on the face exiting the helicopter.
This tour of Kaua'i was absolutely amazing. It was such a thrill to see the beauty of the island from the air - it was breath taking beyond my wildest dreams. I would highly recommend it to anyone, don't miss it.
Great helicopters and pilots. By far the best flight we have taken in Hawaii! Incredible scenery along the Napali coastline. The immense amount of private lands on Kauai make this flight amazing.
I didn't think a one hour tour would be long enough, but the pilot covered the entire island without us feeling rushed. I've never seen so many waterfalls in my entire life. The views of the Na Pali coast and of the Waimia canyon were unparalled.
We went with anxiety, returned in awe. The ride was smooth, musical, entertaining, and enlightening. Barrett the pilot was knowledgeable, well spoken, informed, and complimented the breath taking scenery perfectly. The music was well choreographed to the land details and presented us with one of the most spectacular activities to date.
Taking advice from our guidebook, our group of six did our ride the morning after arriving in Kauai. We booked online, more than 5 days in advance, which saved us some money. There may be other deals through condos, etc... that may save more. But the price was ~$210/pp which seemed reasonable. For the most part, the different companies are going to fly the same basic routes. They may do things a little differently during those routes, but you're going to see similar things. The differences are going to be in the helicopters and the guides. The ECO star helicopters were nice. The prime spot is the front middle. The right front is a little tight, but has good views forward and to the right side. The best in the back are the sides. Wear dark clothing to reduce glare, since any photos will be shot through the glass. I've been in a few different helicopters and these are about as good as you're going to get from a tour company. If you're a serious photographer, you'll want a tour that goes with the doors off. I had a Garmin GPS watch on me that I started about 10 minutes into the ride. Elevation ranged from about 1000' to 4500' - of course the terrain also varied. Speeds reached around 120 mph top when transitioning to different areas and down around 30 mph when getting up close to the sights. Overall, the tour covers about 100 miles of territory. I brought the mid-range zoom for my DSLR, but it was a little overkill. I wish I would have brought the standard lens, as you'll be pretty close to the views. Most of the time I found myself wishing I'd brought the smaller lens. Everything went well, they were very professional, and everyone had a good time.
We had a great pilot. Retired chopper pilot who was obviously well versed on all the area's of the island and had a historical reference of the area's we flew over. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, is it pricey, YES, but considering the fact that you can only see about 20% of the island by driving and hiking, this was well worth it. I highly recommend that you buy your ride DVD to show others the amazing ride.
What a way to see the Island of Kauai. Fantastic views!!! Very professional. A must do. Well worth the price. O-H I-O
This is a fantastic trip, This volcano has been active for 30 years and is still going strong we flew through the Vog over lava tubes to the ocean where you see the lava go into the sea. The flight was about 50 minutes and very interesting this is an unforgettable trip they provide Bose headphones to reduce the noise from the Helicopter you can also purchase a DVD but if youre from England you will have to get the DVD converted to our region
This helicopter ride was well worth the money! We travelled around Kauai with pilot Nathan and he was fantastic with knowledge and making you feel safe.
I went with my husband, his brother and parents (ages 30-60). We had 7 people total in our helicopter, so one other couple. I was very nervous, but as soon as you get into your seat, you put headphones on that have nice soothing music to calm you down :). The entire trip was so exhilarating. The sites, breathtaking. The pilot, very nice and entertained us with fun facts throughout the flight. Highlight of our trip!
