There were six of us in our group with 4 adults and 2 children. Our pilot was Grant and he immediately put our minds at ease about his level of experience. He is retired from the CA Highway Patrol and also has flown Life Flight missions in Texas. He was so good at making sure we all understood the safety aspects and also the microphones we would use to talk to him with. He really made our two hour ride over the Volcano National Park and Kilauea Volcano one to remember forever. Our ride was very, very smooth. In fact, we were all surprised at how smooth it was. After the volcano, we landed in Hilo at their airport for a potty stop. Then, off to the Kohala coast to see the waterfalls that we would never see unless we were in a helicopter. Yes, this is expensive, but we suggest you not wait for the "planets to align" or some specific milestone in your life. Book Blue Hawaiian NOW! It is well worth the expense for an unequaled experience in the beauty of Hawaii. Highly recommend Blue Hawaian Ecostar! I honestly cannot put into words how I felt as we were flying along with beautiful music playing in our ear phones and we were seeing magnificent beauty!

Scott took us for the two hour flight over the Big Island, overlooking the volcanos, the steaming vents and lava drips at the top as well as near the ocean. We than flew over to view the magnificent valleys and the tall waterfalls. Scott's command of the helicopter was perfect, allowing all of to take a good look at all the important things to see.

This is really the only way to appreciate the ever changing spectacular landscapes of the Big Island. Starting with the lava covered fields, flying between the Mauna Kea and the Mauna Loa in our way to Kilauea, where we were able to follow the lava flow, along a line of vent holes with smoke, all the way to the sea. It was surprising to see a few houses built on the dried lava area; very cheap real estate on this area. After a stop at Hilo, our pilot, Shane, took us to his favorite place, the Waimanu Valley and we saw the Waihīlau Falls; one of the tallest single drops of a waterfall in the United States. The greenery and mountain slopes is a wonderful lush landscape, so different to the lava fields that are so dry and lifeless. And I can't forget to mention the bright blue green color of the sea where we were lucky to spot a school or pod of Dolphins. We had a blast and this kind of landscape is so unique, that we can say this was the highlight of our trip.

So we got what we paid for that day, there was lava going into the ocean, we got to see magma underground from a skylight and flowing on the surface, the views were spectacular. Gives you great perspective. We did purchase the video, and it was funny to watch ourselves but it was nicely done. The pilot is working hard to interact with everyone and give a lot of information. Coming from the aviation and HEMS industry, with only our 8 year old never being in a moving helicopter before we were impressed. They were very professional, took a lot of precautions which we hoped for but weren't sure what to expect, but ended up being very satisfied.

We took the Blue Hawaiian Circle of Fire and Waterfalls tour from the Hilo airport. Although we were staying at Waikoloa and a longer tour was available from Waikoloa it was neary twice the cost, so we chose the shorter ride from Hilo. The views are worth it, and we chose the helicopter specifically to see the active lava flowing. In our experience, it is a challenge to see active lava flowing, either requiring a long, challenging hike across old lava flows (treacherous footing) or a relatively expensive boat cruise from Hilo. The helicopter did the trick for us. We had a good experience with Blue Hawaiian on Kauai a few years ago and selected them again. We were not disappointed, although I feel the tour on Kauai is more spectacular. We were on an Eco-Star both times and felt very safe and had great visibility.

We had a 1 hours trip across the vulcano and waterfalls becasue I could not get my wife to take a longer trip (her first trip in a helicopter). We had a very serviceminded girl that made big efforts to show us the activity of the vulcano and history of the area. Felt very safe and can be recommended. We had the Eco flights that perhaps gave better view than the standard. Expensive , but worth it.

EXCELLENT! We went with 3 kids, 7 y.o. twins and 9 y.o. The kids loved it! The pilot, Jeremy, gave a very nice tour of the island and was able to show us lava flows from all the angles. Lava flowing in the ocean was magnificent! We highly recommend this company to everyone who is looking to seeing lava flow.

Super amazing. Our kids (5 & 6 yo) were wide-eyed and inspired the whole time - the adults too! There is nothing quite like seeing the Earth form right before your very eyes. Very special. Our pilot, Scott, was great - engaging, knowledgeable of the area's geology and history, and very entertaining (a downright hilarious guy). Thank you for a great experience!

My family and I went on the big island spectacular in May of 2013. We were looking forward to this tour. My wife and I tried to do the volcano tour during our honeymoon in 1997, but it was rained out and we did not have the time to rebook. We scheduled the tour early in our time on the Big Island luckily, since it was rained out again. Blue Hawaiian rescheduled us and even upgraded us to the bigger helicopter, which was a real bonus. Our pilot James was very knowledgeable an fun. The sights were incredible and many were only accessible from the air. We had a great time, it was worth the wait. Seeing the volcano from the air give a real perspective of the size and power of it. Seeing the remnants of villages destroyed by the lava flow was incredible...you can really see the power of mother nature.

Hands down the best way to experience the variety of landscapes on the Big Island. it may be expensive but it's worth every penny and trust me, you will regret not doing it once you are home! We had the 2 hour tour with our pilot Shane and it was amazing! There's nothing like seeing an active volcano and lava pouring into the ocean followed by insane waterfalls in secluded valleys! Also, a big thank you to our pilot Shane who went out of his way to make sure we made it back to the Heliport in time for another engagement we had that day. Our tour left a few minutes later than scheduled and we were able to save some time by doing a quick refuelling in Hilo and we did not miss any of the amazing sights! Top Notch! Mahalo!

Our pilot Jason gave us a fantastic tour! Very funny and informative. Beautiful sites! Our tour was cancelled from the original schedule due to weather, but the company did a great job of getting us back in the next morning. We did the 7 am tour and then made our 11 am flight!

Brilliant! A must do experience! The team were very experienced, knowledgable, informative, and friendly. The big island spectacular took us over an active volcano, past previous volcanic eruptions, to the sea (where the lava was pouring into the sea), past Hilo, and through valleys showcasing some of the tallest waterfalls in the world! I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is visiting hawaii - as they have tours on other islands too :)

We went for the gusto on this helicopter ride, opting for the longer Big Island Spectacular, in the more expensive helicopter (EcoStar), and it proved to be a great choice. Unfortunately the stars didn't line up correctly, so my wife and I were in two of the back seats rather than the primo front seats next to the pilot, but that is what the weight-balancing computer edicted. The good new is that the EcoStar has REALLY big windows, so even sitting in one of the middle seats (my wife was by the window) I was able to see a lot and get some good pictures. Our pilot, Tom, did a great job of making sure both sides of helicopter got a chance to see all the great sites, and responding to specific request for views, photos, etc. He also was very knowledgeable about the Big Island, and his low-key not overly chatty style was perfect for the tour. We toured the volcano part of the island first, which was what I thought was going to be the highlight, and it was very interesting, especially the site of molten lava oozing up and the steam rising from where the lava enters the sea. The surprise for me was that the tour of the rainforest waterfalls and narrow valleys in the northern part of the island was actually even more a highlight than the volcano. The valleys were really beautiful, and the waterfalls were amazing. It also becomes pretty obvious that about the only way to experience this part of the island is via helicopter. The views were incredible, and I can't imagine how else they could be achieved other than from the window of the helo. We were also fortunate that all 6 passengers were OK with bypassing the "break" in Hilo, opting for additional flight time, which gave us a chance for more rainforest sights. Bottom line: If taking a helo trip in the Big Island is part of your plan, I would definitely opt for the Big Island Spectacular with the EcoStar. Blue Hawaiian earned their high ratings.

Although pricey, this tour was amazing! We got up close and personal with lava, saw fabulous views of the coast and towering waterfalls. Our pilot made certain that everyone in our Eco-star had a chance to see everything. Great experience.

From check-in to pre-flight instruction to take-off/landing and all points in between, just an absolutely fantastic, once in a lifetime experience. Our pilot - Jason - was first class. His knowledge of the Big Island was only overshadowed by his flying skills. The scenery left me speechless. Highly recommend.
