ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

I bouught my daughter and grandson a trip over the volcano on an echostar. They said they had a great time. Price was reasonable and dvd of trip was also reasonably priced. It looked and felt like a real professional operation.

Exciting to see lava
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

All staff and crew were friendly, and did their best to make it a great trip. We were in the EcoStar, which was very comfortable. We had headphones and microphones to interact with the pilot or each other. When no one was talking, there was music. Our pilot made sure to circle each spot in both directions, so everyone could get a good view. We were on the 4:00 PM trip, and were lucky to have great weather. We bought the DVD at the end of the trip for $25. It looked like the camera lens needed to be cleaned, but it's a nice souvenir. I would've rated this experience 5 stars, if it hadn't been for what I consider deceptive marketing. We bought the trip at a Pleasant Holidays orientation breakfast, where the price on the sheet was $179. After buying the tickets, we were told we would have to pay another $39 "fuel surcharge" per ticket when we got there. (This was in the fine print I saw later.) I felt this was a tacky way to make the price seem lower than it was.

The highlight of our trip to the Big Island !
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

This would have been a great tour no matter what, but our pilot Shane made it outstanding. We saw amazing lava activity and Shane made several passes so we could see everything happening live--a large section of tube broke away while overhead revealing an even larger lava pit giving us a great show. He was very detailed in his knowledge of the island, he is very skilled and we felt very safe at all times. We felt it was very worth the price, we saw the 'whole' island and learned A LOT. Highly recommend and will do so again on other islands.

Totally worth it
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

My husband was very dubious of this tour, in part due to the pretty hefty price tag. After the flight, however, he couldn't stop talking about it! We saw lava in three different locations, and the views from the helicopter couldn't be seen any other way. In fact, while we were there, helicopter tours were the ONLY way to see lava. In addition to the great views, our pilot (Roger) was very nice. He encouraged the whole group to talk so that we felt involved in the experience, instead of just passive observers. Our flight left a bit late due to some scheduling snafu, so Blue Hawaiian Helicopters gave everyone on the flight free copies of the DVD of the flight. The DVD has a very "home video" feel (certainly not high def!) but it is really fun to watch it and relive the flight. I'm so glad that we did this trip, and that we did it with Blue Hawaiian. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable, and the helicopter (an Ecostar) was comfortable and had plenty of windows. Definitely do this!

AMAZING
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

You can tell from the start that this company is a cut above the rest. Their website is more than a simple brochure. You can learn everything about each trip they offer and even see a quick video of what you might view during the trip. When contacting for questions, answers are prompt and detailed. They even called to confirm and give us reminders the day before. My wife and I did the Circle of Fire + Waterfalls from Hilo on the big island. Unfortunately we were on a day where there was not a ton of lava, but our pilot was determined to find some and he certainly delivered. He also made sure that everyone on the copter got a good look at everything. He was knowledgeable about the volcano and was up-to-date on specifics. He also was able to share some good information about the history of the island, which was a nice extra. The waterfalls are a nice bonus but certainly don't compare to seeing flowing lava. We also got a bonus towards the end of the flight. As we were heading across Hilo Harbor to the airport to land the copter, we spotted some whales and the pilot brought us over for a great view at about 1,000-1,500 feet. We were not expecting it and it was a nice addition to the flight! One piece of advice that I think is huge - take your flight at 10am - for two reasons. First, it tends to rain in the afternoon in Hilo. I doubt you want rain clouding your trip. Second, you don't want to be the first flight of the day - we were at 9am, the first flight and spent a good amount of time searching for lava, since conditions change overnight. If you are at 10am, the pilots have already spotted lava and know where to directly go.

Lava from the air - can't be beaten
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

I was bought this trip as a birthday present and loved it. We did the circle of fire tour which went from Hilo airport on the Big Island of Hawaii. The tour said we’d be in the air for 45-50 min, but we were in the air for an hour which was great. The flight over the lava fields is amazing – a once in a lifetime sight. We were lucky enough to see some lava flowing which cannot be guaranteed all the time, as lava does what it wants. The slight of a tree falling across a small lava flow and catching fire is something I’ll never forget. We also saw some lovely jungle and waterfalls as well as flying over Hilo harbour. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and we felt very well taken care of. There is a choice of 2 helicopters; we were in the newer Eco-Star which seemed to have more windows for greater visibility of the views, and apparently is more comfortable than the alternative. It was confortable. A couple of things to note; your seat in the helicopter is determined by weight (they weigh you when you check in) so you may not be sat next to the person you want to be, but they do try to take couples etc. into account. The cabin is air conditioned so no need to bring extra layers, but you shouldn't wear white as the reflection on the windows restricts your view. Some of the previous reviews mentioned bad customer service, but having checked with my family/friends that bought me this trip they say they had no problems with any of the booking. We felt very well taken care of. I got the feeling that the company running this appreciated that the cost of this for their customers meant it was likely to be a once in a life time special occasion and treated it as such. If you're not booking this for a spesific day you can get last minute deals in the resorts, so that might be an option if you decide to do it last minute, but you'd need to be flexible.

Wonderful experience
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

We did the Kohala coast tour, which was abosolutely gorgeous. The pilot was very knowledgeable and engaging. He took us to many waterfalls that were absolutely breathtaking, as well as valleys and the coast. Highly recommend them if you are staying in Waikoloa.

Don't miss this!!
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

My husband and I took a Blue Hawaiian Kohala Coast tour and it was great! It is a quick 50 minutes but you get to see parts of the coast you can't get to by car. We saw amazing cliffs with cascading waterfalls. It was alot of fun and I highly recommend it! The only bad part is there appear to be no age restrictions as a couple that was on our helicopter brought their 2.5 year old and their 10 month old --- that screamed the entire trip. Other than that it is definitely worth doing.

Incredible
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

Hawaii is so big that you really need a helicopter to see it. Even with the 2 hr tour you can't see it all, but do it anyway... We were already experienced with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters from our trips with them on Maui and Kauai. My wife was a bit hesitant based on our cowboy pilot in Kauai, but this pilot was civilian trained and a former Medi-flight pilot, so that helped her get comfortable again. Our first trip with them was cancelled due to bad weather at the volcano. The weather can change rapidly so do call before you go. Luckily we were able to reschedule for the next day and the weather was good. We took off and headed for Kilauea, the currently active volcano. While there wasn't any flow going on, we did see lava filling up the pool. It's possible that the pool may overflow later this year. we saw the remains of a building that was finally destroyed just weeks earlier. We stopped in Hilo to refuel and then headed down along the Kohala cliffs and waterfalls. What a pleasant way to spend a few hours. The views were incredible.

Unbelievable!
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

On our drive to Hilo, we stopped by Blue Hawaiian helicopter to check our their offerings. We chose the Big Island Spectacular trip (1 hr. 45 min) in the Eco Star ($$$$). Although expensive, it's the only way to see the volcano, falls and cliffs! We were luck enough to have a clear day and were taken to a rarely seen part of the valley which had magnificent water falls. The area is only accessible by air and was breathtaking! The two way microphones allowed the pilot to give us alot of history and allowed us to ask endless questions! Our pilot moved the helicopter around so everyone was able to get great pics of all that we saw. Truly outstanding!

The ride of a lifetime
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

The highlight of our two week trip to the Hawaiian Islands, this two hour trip fron Kahului was worth every cent of the US$350 plus US$75 fuel surcharge per head fee. The strength of the A$ v US$ does not hurt either. The company is VERY professional, the helicopters very comfortable, ours a five passenger A-Star, flown by Scott, a one time US Army Black Hawk pilot. We took an amazing trip over the lava fields, from Kona across the island to Hilo, around the volcanic ranges, through some of the most spectacular valleys. We flew up to the famous waterfalls along the Koliala coast, across the Volcanoes National Park, over the Pu'u O,o vent, over the East Rift Zone of Kilauea, and through the Laupahoehoe Natural Area reserve. From 200 ft to 4000ft flying hight, the trip was physically exciting as well as panoramically spectacular. The helicopters are set up for photography, and flow up to, and around, points of interest so passengers on either side get to take photos. The also make a neat video of the flight from cameras inside and outside the helicoptor, recording the Q and A's between the passengers and pilot, as well as the pilots (expert) running commentary. Unfortunaltely our recording broke down aftewr 18 minutes! Then then, we did get the most amazing weather and flew into areas not often visited. All up 2+ hours flying adventure And No,... I am not on their staff - simply a very impressed visitor from Australia.!

Jeremy gave us lots of info about the volcanos and areas we toured. I would highly recommend using Blue Hawaiian Co if/when you plan on touring Hawaii by helicopter
