Got to see lava ! Great Time ! Copter was quiet and clean, staff was very friendly and professional.

took helicopter tour, not cheap but good value for money when taken into account. flew over crater and managed to see some red lava and understood more the massive destruction being caused by slow but non stop moving lava, also the respect for the mountain doing its own thing, being a person who lives in a modern society asked why anything was not being done to divert the lava and protect towns and villages, a slight silence followed and it was explained that you dont upset the mountain gods. back to the heli tour we flew over the crater due to much slow down of activity the risk is minimal and steam levels low, the views are breathtaking and a very informative and experienced pilot would put any unnerved person at ease, we took journey on september 13th 2014 and pilot Jax tour called cfw (circle of fire and waterfalls) all your flight including you is recorded onto a dvd for you and available to purchase when finished, we then flew onto waterfalls and saw from above some fantastic waterfalls. if there is only a limited amount for a tour then this one has to be the one, hawaii and volcano are a marriage and can be seen as one on this flight, this company takes safety very serious had no cause to worry about anything, just sit back and they look after you, relax and enjoy a unique experience, dont hesitate to ask questions, i will give a honest unbiased answer john and heather

As noted by other contributors, this is really the best way of seeing volcano action at the moment and Blue Hawaiian is a very good company. While not nervous about the trip, I wanted to make sure the good safety procedures and experienced pilots were used and these needs were well met with good safety briefings, clearly cared for equipment and a pilot who checked in frequently with his passengers to make sure we were comfortable. Volcanoes have been totally fundamental to Big Island's environment and it's from the air you can get a brilliant overview of the current crater, but also the lava paths and the other volcanic cones on the island. It's important to understand what you're going to see - currently there's no lava flowing dramatically into the sea or spurts of lava rising high from the crater. But our pilot did a great job of showing us some lava hot spots, explaining what it's like to live in this environment and giving us a great sightseeing trip over the island.

I really don't know what to say here other than it was amazing! Not only did we see lava flow but we saw awesome waterfalls! My boyfriend and I took this tour, along with another couple and their son. The pilot would circle around each lava flow or waterfalls so that each person had a chance to see the beauty from the sky! This is definitely well worth the money, and something we will most definitely do again!

This was great! We actually had our tour out of the Kona location. We did the Kohala Coast tour, which lasted about 45 minutes. Our pilot was John and he was great. He helped point out the sights and had some cheesy one-liner jokes that helped keep the mood light. We were in the Eco-Star which didn't feel too cramped. This really was the perfect way to see parts of the island that you can't get to any other way. It was my first time in a helicopter and I loved it. If you can stomach the fee, you'll love the ride!

this was awsome way to end our trip my boyfriend and I wentg on the heli ride with greg he was very informative great music on flight and was amazing to see the damage being done by the volcano coming from california I have never seen anything like that I have a whole new perspective on what it would be like to live near hilo very sad to see so much damage in such a small area. We flew out of Hilo with Scott. He was an excellent pilot, tour guide, took us for a very smooth ride out to the volcano. We had extra time and so he flew out to see some of the local waterfalls. This was a highlight of our stay on the Big Island.

This was a terrific tour. I would highly recommend Tim for your pilot. It is always nice to see someone who can make a difficult task seem effortless!!

The recent news about the lava moving towards a residential area and possibly cutting the only road out made the helicopter flight very current and exciting (not for the people down below) however the flight was incredible and the site of lava red and molten pushing up out of the earth made for some great photos. The pilot spent plenty of time allowing our group close and clear views of the area and turned the helicopter around so each side of the helicopter got a good view, ours held 6 people and the pilot.There was a DVD available after the flight, we also looked at some water falls and flew over our ship in the harbour, once again getting some more photos. Well worth the money even thought it is quite expensive.

One of the most romantic, life changing views is the waimea valley area. The helicopter pilot went easy on our bellies, slowly navigating the 3000 foot waterfalls and majestic valleys. Worth every penny. Our pilot was a guy named Greg, had a wonderful time. THIS is a MUST!

Totally professional operation with a personal touch. I swear they picked the people going in each helicopter so they would get along well. Tour was amazing and worth the gasp inducing price. We did the full island tour and I'm glad we did. I would have picked lava over valleys if we had only done half but I ended up loving the valleys the most. Special thanks to Wes for making my dad's dream of a front row seat a reality.

We took a 2h tour of Big Island including the Volcanoes National Park. The pre-flight preparation is very well organised. We flew aboard a modern Eco-Star chopper. The 2 hour tour is amazing and made us visit from the air about 70% of Big Island. Our pilot was a true professional and was an amazing entertainer. Even the music during the flight was orchestrated according to the places we flew over. Really worth it!

Wife and I booked them for a helicopter tour and were impressed. We did a volcanoes and waterfalls tour and the scenery was great. They took us over the June 27th flow and the pilot was both engaging and professional. They have a great safety record and are easy to find at the Hilo airport. We had a great time and thought that they ran a very tight ship.

We took a different tour to see the volcanoes national park, so we decided on the Kohala Coast for our helicopter tour. The tour was about 45 minutes long and was AMAZING! We saw so many beautiful waterfalls and flew into and around the DEEP valleys. This was well worth the cost! We flew in the A-star helicopter, with one less person, so it was really roomy and the views were great all around. Kiwi, our pilot, was super friendly. At one point during our tour the young lady onboard with us didn't get a picture of the waterfall, so he spun the helicopter around so she could get a picture! What a nice thing to do. The ground staff, shuttle driver and reservation agent were all helpful and friendly too. I would recommend a helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian!

We did see some red hot lava on the field. But we did not spend a lot of time seeing this new flow. They did NOT take us above the Caldera, So this was a Huge disappointment. $1000.00 for 2 adults, and we were told that we would be flying over the caldera when we booked. So no, I would not book this flight again. We always felt save, the pilot was informative.
