The helicopter ride was spectacular and allowed us the ability to see the island first hand before we adventured the island in our Jeep. Justin our Pilot was very informative and gave us a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

Don't go cheap here. This is the island to do the helicopters. The view of the mountains was fantastic. Waterfalls to die for. Lava lava lava. Flowing into the ocean. Erupting at the volcano. Unbelieveable. Pilot was very nice. Remember to wear dark clothes if you want your pictures to come out. Anything light in color will reflect and screw up your pics. Hopefully you get the front two seats. Go on their better helicopter, its worth it.

We took the 45 minute Circle of Fire Plus Waterfalls flight and we unreservedly recommend it. We were two of 5 passengers in an eight seater helicopter with great visibility on all sides. The preparation and boarding was very professional and the pilot (Roger in our case) very concerned that we all got to see the highlights especially the lava spewing from the vent and flowing into the sea. Apparently we were rather lucky to sight the lava flowing into the sea since it hasn't been doing so for much of the year. A spectacular experience and worth the close to $200 per head.

we did the circle of fire and water falls tour on Dec 19th and enjoyed it... only regret is that we were not covered by their video as the person in the front seat totally blocked us. otherwise we would have bought the video for an extra $45. however, our pilot Jeremy made the whole ride extremely entertaining, ensuring all of us caught the best views of the smouldering red lava in 3, 4 places in the crater... he addressed us by name and had a very interesting commentary going while manoeuvering the helicopter at all angles... saw a few water falls as well ....totally worth the money... for the 11am ride, reporting was at 10.15, we were there only by 10.30 as we were doing other sights... wished we had arrived early and grabbed the emergency exit seat in the front... but however, the pilot rode the helicopter at all angles and ensured good views for us in the back seat

My mother in law and I had a great time. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and made it great. We got cancelled the first time due to weather but the people tried really hard to fix the problem.

After making reservations the day before, we drove from Kona to Hilo Airport. The airport is small, and the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter is conveniently located right in the main terminal. We chose the Circle of Fire plus Waterfalls tour, which is a 45-50 minute flight. Our pilot, Julie, was extremely pleasant and provided lots of general information about the area, in addition to the volcanic activities. The flight begins with a quick look at a small waterfall, but viewing the lava flowing in several areas and then lava spilling into the ocean is well worth the trip. The pilot made several passes over the lava, so that everyone in the helicopter could get great views. Overall, each member of the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter team worked together to make this a fun activity, while instilling the need to follow safety guidelines. On our flight, there were seven passengers, plus the pilot. The cost of the flight DVD was $25.00.

We drove from Kona to Hilo because we really wanted to see the lava fields from the air and decided it was worth the drive to get the most bang for our bucks! Everyone we dealt with at Blue Hawaiian was very professional and service oriented and the equipment was well maintained. We each had headsets and we shared microphones for every two people so we could all ask questions. Our pilot, Tim was awesome and very knowledgeable!

Our family group of 7 booked the 7 am flight. We flew on 2 Ecostar helicopters, both with comfortable seats, great visibility for all and knowledgable pilot/guides. Erupting volcano, fabulous island geology and scenery, gorgeous, pristine valleys with 3,000 ft waterfalls - a perfectly fascinating 2 hour tour.

We did the two hour tour across the whole Big Island. Our pilot/guide was fantastic. Very friendly and very knowledgable. We saw actual lava in the main Kiluea crater as well as lava flowing into the ocean and lava in another crater that had recently blown out. Also, flew into and up the valleys on the north side of the island where there some extremely tall waterfalls.

We're so glad we sprung the big bucks to pay for the 2 hour tour over the volcano and the waterfalls of North Kohala. the weather was excellent and we saw lava gushing out of the vents and oozing out of others. Then our pilot flew us over the ocean to see lava entering the ocean over a black sand beach. A highlight was flying into the deep rainforest ravines, seeing all the waterfalls. it was like flying into Jurassic Park. The lava doesn't flow every day so you may not be as lucky as we were. But you'd see the little islands of trees among a huge expanse of old lava.

We did the tour that went from Waikaloa to volcano to Hilo and up the coast around and over Kohala back to base. The tour was great and pilot was very knowledgeable. We went when the lava was flowing into the ocean and got lots of great pictures. Flying up the east coast we got some good pictures of a whale and baby and going into the valleys was spectacular. There was lots to see. You can purchase your trip on DVD. Unfortunately ours only got half the trip from our stop at Hilo back to the base. We did contact Blue Hawaiian and they did offer to resolve the issue.

Saw the volcanoes. Lava was flowing. Tons of water falls and beautiful coast. Saw a few whales jumping. Our pilot made sure to make several passes on both sides of helicopter so everyone could see. I'd highly suggest this tour! Also, you see everything in two hours and then can be back at the pool before noon. Pilot was impressive!!

The only way to see the volcano and the valleys. Also got to see some whales too! Absolutely breathtaking and so worth it!

I was traveling with family that included mobility restricted parents and a 2y.o. and this was the best way for all of us to be able to do something together. We did the big island spectacular on the second to best helicopter and it was fine for those of us in the back row, but the front row passengers said it was a little cramped for them. So maybe upgrade to the top level copter if you are able to. We did the very early morning tour at 7 a.m. and it really isn't that early if you're visiting from the u.s., especially if you do it on one of your first mornings there because the time difference will be in your favor. Also, visibility was excellent at that time. Our pilot's name was Jason and he was great at explaining the history and geography of the island and it was not a canned presentation at all. And his flying skills are great! His confidence put us all at ease. This is really the only way to see all the valleys and waterfalls on the big island so for us, it was everything we wanted it to be.

We had some trepidation because we wondered if the cost would be worth it. Happy to say it certainly was! We flew over active lava cauldrons and saw breath taking views that we would never have experienced otherwise. Our pilot, Noah, provided a great commentary of the landscape and island history. We left Waikoloa and stopped in Hilo about an hour later to refuel. From there we had the opportunity to stretch our legs and get to know the others on the ride with us. The highlight of the first leg of the journey was seeing the active volcano from above and the second part of the trip yielded absolutely spectacular views of the Kohala coast and valleys. We were able to buy a dvd of the our flight and all the commentary b/w Noah and those on the flight was included. Spend the money. It will be a memory you will cherish. I recommend the dvd also!
