The best Helicopter Company on the Islands!
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

I lived on the Big Island for 10 years and had the pleasure of taking several trips with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. I must say, they are the best! The most luxurious helicopters. There is never a bad seat. You have the ability to talk with the pilots and ask questions. And to top it off, they offer an excellent CD of your exact tour so you can share your experience with family and friends. If you are visiting the Big Island and looking to view the volcano, a helicopter is the best way to see it all. Trust me...you won't regret it!

Great tour but might make you nauseous
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

It was a great way to see the island. Would defensively recommend not to go if you get nauseous.I usually don't feel nauseous at all but I was still extremely nauseous halfway through the tour...so were the other passengers.

Lava viewing from Helo
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

We took the flight from Helo because it costs over $200 less a person that leaving from Kona side. First off let me say that our pilot, Rodger, was very friendly and we liked him a lot. He did all he could to make our experience an enjoyable one. Everyone had a good view from inside the helicopter and it was comfortable. They play music during take off and when the pilot was not talking. I especially liked the Hawaii 50 theme during take off. We took the tour hoping to see big rivers of lava, but we only saw one small patch of glowing red that looked about as big as a coffee table. After that we flew by the Rainbow falls, which is in the middle of Helo for the most part, right next to the Hospital. It does not look very impressive from a helicopter. If I considered this a lava tour it was a disappointment, but if you considered it a helicopter tour of Hawaii then you can justify the cost. If I had it to do over again though, I would have rather spent the time hiking the inactive volcano.

A ride of a a lifetime
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

We took the Big Island Spectacular tour on July 20th. Our pilot was very friendly and engaged us in conversation while giving a thourough overview of what we were looking at, some Hawaiian history, and a geological overview of the island chain. The helicoper was very comfortable, and we all had scolomine patches, so not even a hint of motion sickness. We saw molten lava bubbling, looked down into the active volcano crater and followed the lava pipe. Then onto to the waterfalls and, because the weather was good, we were able to tour the back valley's - wow - we were stunned at the beauty. I really cannot describe the view, but it looks untouched. I would definately recommend this trip if you can afford it.

Great tour; amazing sights
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

We ended up doing the Big Island Spectacular on the a-star helicopter. The difference between the a-star helicopter and eco-star is essentially more spacious seats, and nicer and more modern looking helicopter, all for $50-100 difference depending on the tour. The nice thing is the location was really close to all the resorts in the Waikoloa area, which is where we were staying (5 min drive total). Our a-star helicopter fits 6 people (2 front plus 1 pilot, 4 in the back) - fronts seats are the back, but those are usually assigned to lighter weight folks for balancing the weight for the helicopter. The pilot was pretty friendly, cracked a bunch of jokes and was engaging in providing an overview of the island and different sights as well as some Hawaiin history. He was very professional and I felt safe throughout the ride. He also made sure to provide the right viewing angles so everyone had an opportunity to take good photos. There were two sections of the tour. First was the volcano and second was the Kohola Coast (waterfalls, cliffs, and valleys). During the volcano portion, we got to see a few different volcanoes and in a few instances, some of the red lava flowing - in a way, I was hoping for some serious lava flow, but in reality, you get to see only pockets of lava from a distance. Other than that, you end up seeing volcano hills, lava rock formations, and lots of gas. If you haven't seen volcanoes before, its worth to go see, but if you've seen volcanoes before, you may actually consider skipping this. I ended up enjoying the second part of my tour much more. We got to see various deep valley and waterfall landscapes that were truly stunning. Many of these waterfalls cannot be accessed by driving or walking. In a way, many of the waterfalls reminded me a bit of the waterfalls you see in the movie, Avatar. This was the highlight of the tour in my eyes - just jaw-dropping landscapes and waterfalls. If you're in the Big Island, it's definitely worth doing the helicopter tour both for the experience of being in a helicopter but also for the scenery you get to see. Given the high cost of doing a helicopter tour, I would recommend doing at a minimum the Kohola Coast Tour. The Big Island Spectacular Tour is great, but felt like a lot of money to throw down.

Greg and Blue Hawian simply rock!
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

We just returned from the most amazing adventure. Active lava flows, lava spouts, rainforests, valleys, waterfalls and the big island cooperated the entire two hour ride. The flight took us from the launch heliport at Waikaloa to the calderas in the volcano national park. We paused for fuel water and some excited post lava spotting chatter, pilot Greg included in Hilo. We joked that he must have pushed the lava button. We took off out of Hilo to the Hawaii 5-0 theme song which was a really cool moment and headed up the coast toward the big waterfalls. Greg always took plenty of time so everyone on both sides got great views and plenty of photo ops. Very educational and fresh information about current conditions and recent island activity from rain, washouts to some eucalyptus logging. All that and yet Greg knew exactly the right moments to just let the views speak for themselves. Bucket list worthy trip! Greg many thanks from your friends in Indiana. Ethan, Owen, Pat and Kim. You are great at your "not working" job. Mahalo!

Amazing Views and Experience
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

This is an excellent way to see the volcano and lava. It is a great way to start your day off before going to the Hawaii National Volcano Park. You can see lava fields and paths of previous devastation. They even throw in some water falls and views of the coast from the air, We took the hour tour and loved it. I wish we could of afforded to do the more expensive one. This is a family friendly excursion and I highly recommend this one to anyone visiting Hawaii.

Great service where I didn't expect it!
ビッグアイランド - ワイコロア

While visiting my in-laws, I got lost on a long jog and ended up on Queen K Hwy right by Blue Hawaiian. Walked in exhausted, asked to use their phone to call a taxi. They expressed concern for me and I reluctantly explained that I got lost on the long road from the condo where we were staying (Waikoloa Beach). I had no money, cell, or ID on me and had run out of water 20 minutes prior. To make matter worse, I was about to be late for an appointment with my in-laws! To my surprise, the reps at Blue Hawaiian offered to shuttle me back to the condo since it was right down the road from them. While this does not tell you about their helicopters, it speaks volumes about the quality of customer service you will receive! They still care enough to take care of people, even one who is not a prospective customer. The lady who shuttled me back to the condo saved my bacon in a MASSIVE way today! Will definitely use Blue Hawaiian for my next helicopter tour if the opportunity arises. -mcs

Must do !!
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

We took the Circle of Fire and Waterfalls trip from Hilo, which is about a 50 min ride. This was the first helicopter trip for our family. It was a great experience. Ethan, our pilot, was very friendly and was very knowledgeable about the area. We flew over the Kilauea crater, where we were able to see some magma shelves and also were treated to the great sight of lava entering the ocean. Thanks to the weather, we also were able to get a great view of the Rainbow falls.

Exciting to see lava
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

All staff and crew were friendly, and did their best to make it a great trip. We were in the EcoStar, which was very comfortable. We had headphones and microphones to interact with the pilot or each other. When no one was talking, there was music. Our pilot made sure to circle each spot in both directions, so everyone could get a good view. We were on the 4:00 PM trip, and were lucky to have great weather. We bought the DVD at the end of the trip for $25. It looked like the camera lens needed to be cleaned, but it's a nice souvenir. I would've rated this experience 5 stars, if it hadn't been for what I consider deceptive marketing. We bought the trip at a Pleasant Holidays orientation breakfast, where the price on the sheet was $179. After buying the tickets, we were told we would have to pay another $39 "fuel surcharge" per ticket when we got there. (This was in the fine print I saw later.) I felt this was a tacky way to make the price seem lower than it was.

The highlight of our trip to the Big Island !
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

This would have been a great tour no matter what, but our pilot Shane made it outstanding. We saw amazing lava activity and Shane made several passes so we could see everything happening live--a large section of tube broke away while overhead revealing an even larger lava pit giving us a great show. He was very detailed in his knowledge of the island, he is very skilled and we felt very safe at all times. We felt it was very worth the price, we saw the 'whole' island and learned A LOT. Highly recommend and will do so again on other islands.

Totally worth it
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

My husband was very dubious of this tour, in part due to the pretty hefty price tag. After the flight, however, he couldn't stop talking about it! We saw lava in three different locations, and the views from the helicopter couldn't be seen any other way. In fact, while we were there, helicopter tours were the ONLY way to see lava. In addition to the great views, our pilot (Roger) was very nice. He encouraged the whole group to talk so that we felt involved in the experience, instead of just passive observers. Our flight left a bit late due to some scheduling snafu, so Blue Hawaiian Helicopters gave everyone on the flight free copies of the DVD of the flight. The DVD has a very "home video" feel (certainly not high def!) but it is really fun to watch it and relive the flight. I'm so glad that we did this trip, and that we did it with Blue Hawaiian. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable, and the helicopter (an Ecostar) was comfortable and had plenty of windows. Definitely do this!

AMAZING
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

You can tell from the start that this company is a cut above the rest. Their website is more than a simple brochure. You can learn everything about each trip they offer and even see a quick video of what you might view during the trip. When contacting for questions, answers are prompt and detailed. They even called to confirm and give us reminders the day before. My wife and I did the Circle of Fire + Waterfalls from Hilo on the big island. Unfortunately we were on a day where there was not a ton of lava, but our pilot was determined to find some and he certainly delivered. He also made sure that everyone on the copter got a good look at everything. He was knowledgeable about the volcano and was up-to-date on specifics. He also was able to share some good information about the history of the island, which was a nice extra. The waterfalls are a nice bonus but certainly don't compare to seeing flowing lava. We also got a bonus towards the end of the flight. As we were heading across Hilo Harbor to the airport to land the copter, we spotted some whales and the pilot brought us over for a great view at about 1,000-1,500 feet. We were not expecting it and it was a nice addition to the flight! One piece of advice that I think is huge - take your flight at 10am - for two reasons. First, it tends to rain in the afternoon in Hilo. I doubt you want rain clouding your trip. Second, you don't want to be the first flight of the day - we were at 9am, the first flight and spent a good amount of time searching for lava, since conditions change overnight. If you are at 10am, the pilots have already spotted lava and know where to directly go.
