Captain James was great taking us to great places to see lava and big calderas. Would for sure recommend this tour.

Went in Aug 2017 with two kids (8 & 10) and my husband as the "big treat" on our vacation. It was awesome. Andy (I think) was our pilot, and he was great. Thought the kids would be scared (they aren't big fans of flying), but they loved every minute of it. We had great weather, and there was tons of lava bubbling up the day of our trip. Our pilot made sure to circle around so both sides of the helicopter got great views (there were six of us total) and lots of pictures. I loved that they had perfectly timed the soundtrack with where they expected the chopper to be -- rock music on take off, sort of brooding, spooky, intense over the volcano, something happier when looking at waterfalls -- even my kids noticed it! We drove over from Waikoloa since it was less expensive to depart from Hilo and we had a car, and we enjoyed the drive (tho do plan for 90 min - 2 hours). It was beautiful driving over, and really gave us a sense of the diverse topography of the island. One tip: do NOT wear light colored clothing inside the helicopter. It will reflect off the polarized windows, and your ghost image will be in all of your pictures. The crew told us that before we left, and thankfully, we had darker shirts for our kids so we didn't screw up the pictures you will inevitably take.

Fantastic tour. Scott H was very informative and friendly. He was obviously a fantastic pilot. Pity about not being able to take my tablet to take photos. I do not accept that it is because they are larger than a regular camera! Cameras can be big and bulky and block other passengers view. I was on a window seat and would not have been swinging my tablet around to block some else's view. Crazy rule and I am very disappointed that I was not able to capture the beauty first hand. Disappointing Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.

The ride was very smooth and calming. I was able to see many waterfalls and the lava running inside the volcano. I really liked our tour guide, he answered all of our questions and his taste of music was very good. The view was incredible and I would suggest this tour.
