If you only take one helicopter flight in your life – this is a good choice!
ビッグアイランド - ヒロ

Our hotel concierge recommended Blue Hawaiian’s eco star (with doors) as one of the newest (purchased 2017), safest and most comfortable helicopters on the island, with clear viewing windows. We booked about 7 days before flying. I searched local tourist magazines and couldn’t find any discount vouchers for Blue Hawaiian. Our concierge was able to obtain tickets a little cheaper (about $8 pp less) than the advertised rate, and with a free T-shirt and DVD. Children (over 2 years) are the same price as adults. Most operators won’t allow children under 8 years on doors-off flights. Despite the comfort of the eco-star, my husband who is prone to seasickness, vomited after circling the volcano. This was despite wearing travel wrist bands and taking anti-nausea medication. So if you are prone to travel sickness, be warned. Vomit bags and refresher wipes were readily available. Seating allocation is based on weight and size of passengers. It’s unfortunate to get a middle seat, but it happens. You can put in a request to have a window seat, but I really don’t think it makes any difference to seating allocation. It’s best to wear dark-coloured clothing to reduce reflections in the windows. Blue Hawaiian lends passengers black t-shirts if needed. Our flight was at 10am. About 7 helicopters took off at this time – so the waiting room was full for the safety demonstration. I was surprised at the number of people. You are only allowed to take cameras and sunglasses on the helicopter. All bags (even small ones) are stored at the counter. I believe that helicopters are the best way to see the volcano. We had a really great view of the molten lava in the caldera, and we could also see trickles of orange lava flowing into the sea (even though it was mid-morning). It was also incredible to see the damage that previous lava flows had created, which were clearly visible from the helicopter. While we were on the Big Island, we visited the Volcano National Park, stayed at Volcano House, and visited the Jagger Museum viewing platform – but the views from the helicopter could not be matched (and Jagger Museum comes in at second). We were advised that the boat trips are not particularly safe (the boat is in hot water) and that trekking is a long, hot and windy journey over challenging terrain (which our short trek to the petroglyphs confirmed!) Two of the three children on our flight slept for most of the tour. I felt sorry for their parents who would have paid over $US 300 for each child to sleep! This is a once in a lifetime adventure for most people – and I would highly recommend it. Even for my husband, who will probably never go in a helicopter again, this was the place to do it! We did the Circle of Fire and Waterfall tour. One hour was sufficient - especially for my husband.

Fantastic way to see Kaua'i - if you follow the clothing rules

I will lead off with my only complaint. If you don't already know, wearing brightly colored clothes on a helicopter tour is a no-no. The clothes will reflect off the glass and mess up any photos or videos taken by the wearer (or more importantly, those around them). I start with this comment because that is my sole complaint about our experience on Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. The two passengers next to the pilot were wearing a white shirt (her) and a salmon / white striped shirt (him). So, I have numerous videos and photos of the salmon colored shirt that was CONSTANTLY reflecting in my photos. So, for those who don't already know - wear dark colored clothing on a flight to minimize (no way to reduce fully) the reflection "noise" in the windows. That aside, our pilot Shay was phenomenal and the views of Kaua'i just amazing. This company is friendly and efficient and fly top-notch aircraft. We had a perfect day, weather-wise, and were able to see all of the wondrous sites this island has to offer. Shay was knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting and helpful information. Very smooth ride and we had a great time.

A bit pricey but, it was worth the price. It truly gives you a totally different perspective about the Island. We got to see waterfalls that are inaccessible and cannot be seen from the road. A truly fascinating experience.

A must do if you are on Kauai. It was absolutely amazing and a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our pilot was so much experienced and explained us so many things of the island. We could really feel that he likes his job very much! We could ask him everything we wanted. The Blue Hawaiian Helicopters heliport is just next to the airport of Lihue and easily accessible by car. There are a lot of parking spaces available. We discovered first the island (by car and hiking). So to do a helicopter tour after theses activities was very nice, since we could see then the visited venues from a totally different perspective. It was a gorgeous flight. THANKS for everything!

Great ride

Blue Hawaiian is efficient and runs like a well-oiled machine. The tour of the Nepali Coast was incredible and worth the money for sure. 55 minutes is the perfect amount of time and the pilot made sure to circle around so both sides of the helicopter got to see everything. Word to the wise.. if you booked as a two-some, only one of you is going to get a window seat.

One of the 'MUST DO' activities in Kauai!!

Very glad I took the helicopter tour in Kauai. I had very limited time in Kauai but wanted to see the island as much as I could. Came across Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tour while browsing Tripadvisor and thought I'd check out their website. After watching some short videos I've decided to book with them. To be quite honest I thought for $200+ USD it's a bit steep considering the experience is roughly one hour. Only after the tour did I realize it was a steal. I got to their location (conveniently located right beside the airport) and they have a very quick check in process. Afterwards we were briefed on safety we boarded the helicopter and off we went. Everyone has to wear headphones as the pilot will be explaining/narrating the whole trip. The feeling I got from the pilot is that he is very experienced, humorous and knowdgeable. We visited various filming spots of Jurassic Park (Jurassic Park theme song playing in the background, how fitting), historic sites and MANY jaw dropping scenic views of the island. This tour is definitely one of my highlights of this trip! HIGHLY recommended!

Our pilot Brodi was amazing as was the only way to see most of beautiful Kauai. My first helicopter ride and I’m guessing nothing else will ever compare. Thanks Brodi!

We went earlier today on the 50min tour on Kauai that left from near the airport, and it was absolutely amazing and worth every penny! Our pilot, Beth, was super friendly and was a great narrator of everything we were passing. It was just a magical time, and there's truly no other way to see the island. It brought tears to our eyes how beautiful it was. So.. the one thing that really annoyed us was the gentleman sitting in front of us near the window had a bright green shirt on. They TELL you to wear dark colors for a reason, his stupid green shirt is reflecting in all of our videos and pictures. I think the company should have a shirt for people to throw over if they can't remember to wear dark colors because it really ruined the photos and videos we took and there was nothing we could really do about it :( so please don't be rude and listen to the instructions for this once in a lifetime flight!
