We had the pleasure of using `Blue Hawaiian Helicopters' in KONA, Big Island Hawaii, during X'mas 2013. Our pilot was Greg Fredericks. The entire tour, `big island tour' was spectacular. From the beginning to the end, Blue Hawaiian Helcopters crew were superb, professional and on time. I cannot say enough about our pilot, Greg, he was simply the best. Friendly, knowledgeable and funny. He kept our sons entertained throughout the flight. Thank you so much Greg, we will be sure to travel Blue Hawaiian in the other Hawaiian islands in future. We read somewhere that 80% of Maui is accessible only by air, so a helicopter flip seemed to be the perfect Christmas gift to ourselves! We went on an early morning flight in the Eco-Star and it was truly amazing. Moloka'i with its dramatic cliffs and waterfalls is even more jaw-droppingly beautiful then you imagine it to be....We felt extremely safe as we zipped over the lips of several volcanic craters / calderas, past rainbows and past sights we would never have seen otherwise. The pilot was cool and knowledgeable, and we'd definitely recommend using this company. IMPORTANT: The Eco-Star has two rows of seats with four seats in each row (including the pilot's). You get to see all the sights even from the two middle seats in the back row, but the window seats are definitely better especially for taking photo's. Ask for a seat in the front row and, if possible, the emergency exit front row seat as it has the best view (both out the front and side window). The people on our tour who had requested the front row seats in advance were given preference (although they supposedly calculate the seating based randomly on weight distribution) so that would be a good tip to remember. The front middle seat beside the pilot has a good view but you likely won't sit next to your partner if you are travelling as a couple.
We were scheduled for 9:30 am tour, told to check in by 9:15, at check in we were told our helicopter that we were to go on had A/C problems and our flight tour was cancelled. But all Ok in end, Drew the manager at Blue Hawaiian was able to reschedule us, actually created a new not on schedule flight at 4:30 as all other flights were sold out and we were leaving next day. Our pilot was Justin , a young, personable and knowledgable tour guide gave an Awesome tour of the West Maui and Molokai Island. Drew the manager also threw in the DVD of our personal tour and the Hawaii bluray as a goodwill gesture for inconvience of rescheduled tour. Customer Service at its best! Highly recommend Blue Hawaiian/Hawaii Helicopters for any tour, would use them in future again.
We took the west Maui flight and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The helos are as comfortable as hellos can be and the headphones cut out all the noise. It was a great day for flying and there is certainly plenty to see. The commentary by the pilot lacked enthusiasm and was delivered in a detached and slightly bored style which became annoying.Overall, we came to see not to listen and loved the experience.
We had never been in a helicopter (sort of scared to do so), but this was the one to try. The office was quite professional to deal with. The ride itself was simply awesome...we did the West Maui mountains and Molokai and the Molokai portion was probably the best part. We also saw several whales from above (our pilot Tim took us down a bit to see them which was great). Tim had alot of great information about the islands and his comfort and confidence made it more enjoyable. A few members of the family felt motion sick by the end of the ride, so maybe a dramamine beforehand would have helped (did give it to my one teen who usually gets sick and he was fine, as was I). While it's a pricey adventure, when and where else can you get those kind of views?
we had an awesome time in Kauai flying over beautiful vistas and in and out of a crater. our group consisted of a mixture of kids, grandparent, adults, etc and all had a great time. Our pilot Geoffrey was awesome!
We did the Blue Hawaiian flight in Kauai last year and it was fabulous, but the Big Island flight we did today was disappointing---not much lava flowing. Our pilot, Jeremy, did fine.
The trip was excellent but the SD Card we purchased about the flight was a big disappointment. We consulted with a computer specialist in order to download the recommended video player but the sound still did not function properly. It was impossible to hear any sentence of the narration completed. There were so many breaks in the narration that we would recommend that if you buy it, ask the staff to show it to you on their computer. The scenery is spectacular but it's disappointing not to be able to hear where you were flying. We went with Sunshine Helicopters 3 years ago on our honeymoon and we continue to enjoy the DVD of our flight with them.
A highlight of a transpacific family reunion...if you knew how good it was you would kick yourself for missing it. Highly professional; safety conscious without being scary for the novices; comfortable seating and excellent noise cancellation on the headphones; great visibility; knowledgeable informative commentary throughout from ace pilot John. You must buy the flight video too- there was just so much to take in on one pass. Ground staff helpful and courteous - as well as multilingual. A happy experience - and we were blessed with good weather. A caution - do not allow over-indulgent parents to prime your grand kids/nieces/nephews with fruit slushies, fudge sundaes or milkshakes before the flight - the comfort bags are fine, but it can mar the flight a little!
Went on the Maui Spectacular tour and it was truly Spectacular. Tim was an excellent pilot and guide.
We did the hour plus tour of Maui with a stop in the middle for some champaign. It was amazing. The pilot played music that made it even more like a beautiful dream. LOVED IT!!
We took the west Maui / Molokai trip and loved it. The helicopter was brand new with glass from overhead down to your feet (so maybe not for you if you are queasy). Our pilot was excellent and also served as a very informative guide. He did check repeatedly to be sure that his turns (which were gentle) were not upsetting any of the passengers. I could have stayed on board all day. It's expensive, but well worth it and you get the sense of a well-run, safety-focused organization. The only quibble i had is that we also had to pay to park in their lot -- really ?? At $250 per person, I think the parking fee should have been included.
We did the complete island tour of Maui. Our pilot was Eric. The flight was fine but could have been a little more lively. It just seemed to be just another trip around the island for Eric. He did point out various sites but in all it was a fairly dull trip. Can't say we would do it again considering what you pay for this experience.
A great way to see and learn a bit about the island. I am afraid of heights so I was very nervous but once we got up in the air all of my fear went away. Much more enjoyable then I thought. A must for first time visitors for sure.
We chose to do the full island helicopter tour and it was worth every penny. It was absolutely breathtaking. Our pilot was very knowledgable and our flight was smooth. However, I do get motion sick and recommend anyone who does have motion sickness to take some Dramamine before hand.
