My wife and I wanted to see lava so we booked this tour through Sheraton, Kona. Many Thanks to Garry whom I never met at Sheraton. We were more than satisfied with the Helicopter tour. Our pilot was Toshi. He was friendly and was informative. He conducted the tour as if we were all one family. We never felt nervous and didn't want the tour to end. We had a DVD. I will always remember Blue, remember Toshi, the wonderful ladies who prepared us with orientation before we boarded. A big thumb up to the shuttle driver who drove us to and from the Port. I highly recommend this tour highly.
We toured the Maui Island and Molokai Island by air. It was great! We talked to the pilot while flying. Eric, our pilot gave was comical and gave a great tour. He flew us so close to the waterfall to take great pictures. We purchased a DVD of our flight. Awesome!
Our pilot was Greg and he was great. Before doing this we were very nervous about riding in a helicopter. Once we took all fears were gone instantly. I would recommend doing this before doing other island excursions. This trip allowed us to see things that we would not have seen otherwise. A great way to see the volcanos. Plus the valleys.
Very professional and a great tour. I would definitely recommend it! pilot was knowledgeable. Spectacular tour! This is a complete island tour, I could see everything, the landscapes, waterfalls, beaches, etc. Mahalo Blue Hawaiian.
In September we spent our 35th wedding anniversary on Maui. Needless to say, the island is unbelievably beautiful. The highlight of our 6 days was the helicopter ride around the island. Eric was our pilot and an absolutely terrific guide. It was much more than a tour, it was an education with some humor thrown in. If you do this, I would recommend getting the DVD that is offered. We just watched it for the first time, and were surprised at how much we had missed. This is an actual video of your trip....awesome.
This place seems to know its business..their helicopters seem to be top of the line and their pilots are fantastic! (at least ours was!). The ride is smooth and I felt completly safe at all times. However, the company could work on their pre-flight orientation---they showed a video that tried to say too much too quickly...it was hard to understand all the information they tried to feed you. The major drawback was the 45 minute flight around Maui. Much of Maui is dry and rather unspectacular and much of the flight time is over that type of area. Finally, when one gets to the rainy (and green) part of the island, it almost all looks the same. There was only one point where the ride was truly thrilling...it was when we flew near a spectacular waterfall..it was then I really felt I was in a helicoptor experiencing something that I could not experience any other way. Available for purchase after the flight is a video of your journey. The video is edited with the scenery and with scenes of you inside the helicoptor reacting to the flight. Please be aware that the video is 98% scenery and only 2% you. I would have liked them to put far more scenes of my family reacting to the flight than the scenery (remember, much of the scenery is unspectacular).
In a Chopper! At age 62, my first helicopter ride. (thought I'd be afraid) Wish I had done it sooner. What a ride! Our pilot was "Rick". Very safe, skilled and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend you take your helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian. Thanks to the office staff and ground crew as well. All very helpful and friendly!
My husband and I took the 30 min tour. We both agreed 15 mins would have been enough for us. It wasn't because of the tour, it was how it effected us. If you have any sort of motion sickness, it's not for you. I was fine the first 15 mins, but after looking out the windows and taking pics, I just felt sick. Unfortunately, they make a video of your trip, so the last part of the video you can see me leaning over to the air vent to cool my face! Haha, I REALLY didn't want to use the dreaded "bag". Luckily, I didn't have to. The tour itself was beautiful and I did get some really nice pictures. The staff was very knowledgeable and made the trip very interesting. I would recommend going on this tour...as long as motion sickness doesn't effect you :)
First of all I have to thank the great staff for arranging everything at the last minute. We had not planned this in advance. I called them up around 12:45PM and was told that there is availability in 2:30PM flight. We were staying in Lahaina so it was about an hour to the helipad and took even longer with the ongoing construction on Hwy 30. We got there late, around 2:10PM; but they pushed the flight down by 15 mins for us and we flew at 2:45PM. Our pilot, Glinda, was great and went in great detail about everything including answering at least hundred questions from our younger 8 year old son who is very knowledgeable for his age when it comes to aviation. The views were amazing from the top. We were in Eco-Star helicopter with Bose headphones so it was quiet. The only thing I am not completely satisfied with is the video. We bought the Video on SD card and was hoping to get a single edited video instead we got three AVI files. There is also audio issue with the videos but that may be specific to Windows 8 computer I am trying to run it on. I would recommend the helicopter tour but would advise to check the videos there itself. Also we couldn't find the address in our GPS and had to figure that out using road signs; there is a tiny "Helipad" sign which can be easily missed so do that research ahead of time.
We took the West Maui Molokai tour. It was a great way to see the island and get a bit of a history lesson. We were on a cruise but booked direct and saved a lot. Eric was a great pilot and had a great play list for the tour. Our 3 year old took a very expensive nap. She loved it. The EcoStar is worth the extra because they have more room and larger rear windows. We ride in the front and the views were great.
Did a 2 hour Maui/Molokai tour. This is the only way to see the road to Hana, from the air! After seeing over 600 turns in the road from the air, we will pass on the drive. This was the highlight of our trip so far and the pilots make it sooo much fun with their dose of good humor. well worth the price.
We did the Maui/ Molokai trip yesterday. I chose this based on thinking we may drive to Hana and didn't want to repeat and we needed a shorter trip since we had our 5 yr old son. If I could redo, I would have done the Hana tour instead because even though our trip was beautiful, it was a lot over the ocean with nothing to see BTW, our son fell asleep within minutes due to the vibration and Dramamine! The risk all parents take with these tours, but he enjoyed what he did experience. Something to note if your kiddo falls asleep on the truck! :) As for service, it was easy to book, the folks were very friendly when checking in and the pilot knew the area well and was entertaining. These trips are always so expensive, I'm disappointed in myself for not doing the other, the risk of tours, only myself to blame on that one. Safety was apparent and felt safe for sure.
Blue Hawaiin met all of our expectations and then some! The flight was exactly as advertised and the view of the West Mountains and Molokai were amazing. Can't recommend Blue Hawaiin enough. We went with a tour on the Ecostar and didn't buy the video.
What an incredible experience! Some pre-flight details... Blue Hawaiian will give you directions as to how to get to their location. Google maps also provides great directions. The helicopters are temperature-controlled so dress comfortably but wear dark clothing to minimize any window reflections. If your flight includes a landing at higher elevations, bring a sweater in case it's chilly. Hats are not allowed to be worn around the helicopters as they can fly up into the rotors and damage the aircraft. No purses or fanny packs. Cameras/recorders are fine. They do not allow iPads or other tablet PCs for use as photographic devices as they can impede the view of other passengers. Smartphones may be used as a camera, but will need to put it in airplane mode during the flight. A 24 hour notice is required for any change or cancellation by calling 1-800-745-2583 between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm Hawaii Standard Time. Tour times may vary according to wind and weather conditions. No scuba diving within 24 hrs. of departure. Parking at the Heliport is $2.00 per hour. They try to seat couples and families side-by-side as much as possible but cannot guarantee particular seating as it is often dictated by their FAA approved “weight and balance” program. Be prepared for questions about your height and weight. They will weigh you when you check in. From the moment you walk into the building to the moment you board your helicopter to the moment you leave, you know that Blue Hawaiian Helicopters have spared no expense to make your time there relaxing and enjoyable. The building itself is welcoming. There's an aquarium just as you enter the door and there's a beautiful garden area with water falls where you can sit and relax. Marketing is excellent with a wide variety of gifts to choose from. Don't forget to purchase a Blueray DVD of your trip for $25...much better than getting the SD card (which is not always easy to play on your home equipment). Staff are welcoming and wonderful and very professional. They all contributed to my husband's surprise for me when he decided to come along for the trip too. (Originally he was going to stay behind and wait for me.) We took the Complete Island Eco-Star tour with Rick as our pilot. Rick was great! Very knowledgeable, a terrific storyteller; a great pilot! He answered all of our questions and then some, taking us to some pretty special areas all over the island of Maui. Booking online gets you a discount. See: http://www.bluehawaiian.com/maui/tours/complete_island/ Complete Island (60-65 minute flight) The highlights of both East and West Maui are united in this unique aerial tour of the complete island of Maui. Explore deep, meandering valleys set in the rainforest of the ancient West Maui Mountains. Knife-edged ridges with mist-shrouded peaks separate the spectacular valleys that give Maui its nickname, "The Valley Isle." Waterfalls cascade down from towering cliffs into the streams running along the rainforest floor. Learn about the history and culture of the sights from your pilot, who is also a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Explore Haleakala Crater, Oheo Gulch, Hana Town, Hana rainforest and the rugged shoreline of Northeast Maui. What a trip! The Eco-Star is an awesome helicopter. It has a 23% increase in cabin space over the A-Star and affords significantly greater personal space for guests, along with improved visibility with over 65 square feet of glass for 180 degree unobstructed views. It also features raised rear seating and wrap-around glass cockpit, for significantly improved visibility from every seat. Blue Hawaiian provides each passenger with aviation-grade, BOSE electronic noise-canceling headsets. The result is incredible quiet—so you can totally enjoy the magnificent CD music accompanying the phenomenal sights you'll be seeing, along with your pilot's knowledgeable, informative narration. Each tour is recorded on a DVD. Four, 3CCD chip cameras are mounted in the helicopter, one in the nose, one on each side of the helicopter and one in the cockpit. The pilot selects the appropriate camera during the tour with a toggle switch mounted on the flight controls to capture the most interesting scene during the tour. Brief takes are made of passengers during the tour to capture expressions to what you are seeing. All music, pilot narration and the microphone communication between you and the pilot are recorded. The music is specially chosen to compliment the changing scenery. This DVD recording system is unique. Blue Hawaiian has continually upgraded their video system to incorporate the latest technologies and have invested over $700,000 in the development and implementation of this system fleet-wide. No other company can offer the quality of video recording available from Blue Hawaiian. The DVD is demonstrated at the end of the tour and passengers have the option to purchase it. Again, I highly recommend the DVD over the SD card. Be sure to fill out the guest review form before you leave. With Blue Hawaiian Helicopters, you will not be disappointed. They are Hawaii’s #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA’s coveted “Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award” every year since 1998. No other helicopter tour company in Hawaii has ever received this critical recognition. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for a record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first “Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award.” And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense. Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. So, when you go with Blue, you go with the best, and you get the best. Enjoy your tour with Blue Hawaiian!! Mahalo to everyone at Blue Hawaiian Helicopters! You're the best! :)
My husband booked a tour from our cruise that included a drive on the road to Hana. Then we were picked up there by the helicopter, flown over the area of Hana, the crater, Lahina and back to the Airport. The copter was very clean and new looking, pilot skilled and had an informative talk for the flight. They played music thru the Bose headphones when he was not talking. They make a video that you can buy later on a DVD or on a chip. The copter holds six passangers and you are seated by weight to balance the craft. This is not an activity for the obese as they have a weight limit of 240 lbs.
