Absolute must do on the Islands!

I read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews and they all seem to be concerned about cancellations or poor visibility. I can understand this, but we were well prepared by our hotel and knew the risks. The island weather on the windward side of the island can change very rapidly and the current volcanic activity means that the pilot have to be cautious about sulpher dioxide and visibility. So they literally may have to cancel a flight while you are there, but this is a little unusual. We lucked out with an excellent weather day. We got a fantastic view of the coast. There was only one volcanic vent working while we were there, but it was very impressive, shooting lava 500 feet into the air. Our pilot was very friendly and informative and we had a nice family with us on the ride, so were were fortunate. This is the largest operator on the island by far, but they did not lack the personal touch. The person walking us to the aircraft was very friendly and helpful. I would pay attention to the recommendation. If you don't wear a darker neutral color, they will give you a pull over. Don't try to bring any backpacks or carry ons. Listen carefully and follow instructions and you will have an excellent trip. There are no bad seats! It is very unfortunate that so many people have lost their homes. If you fly you may want to consider a few relief dollars with the Red Cross or a local organization. It would be nice of the operator had a provision for this.

We spent 2 nights in Hilo, with a Blue Hawaiian Eco-Star "Circle of Fire and Waterfalls" flight as one of the anchor experiences. Fellow pilot Mike S was phenomenal. Besides being an extremely safe and proficient pilot operating in a challenging environment, he went out of his way to make sure both sides of the aircraft had opportunities to see and photograph the landscape, lava, and other points of interest. He recognized and appreciated that I had brought a large professional camera onboard and really worked to set up the shots for me. Despite weather, volcanic hazards, and temporary flight restrictions, the flight was a highlight of our vacation. We were able to see the "laze" plume from the ocean entry (photo included here), active lava flows, lava fountains from fissure 8, and more. In one somber moment, we also witnessed a home burning down, which really hit home and brought into perspective the human toll and consequences for the local residents impacted by the volcano. As a serious amateur photographer, pilot, and travel lover I would highly recommend this tour.

Awesome. Best thing I did during our wonderful trip. Worth the drive from the Kona. Jeremy, our pilot was very friendly and knowledible. Saw the erupting volcano. Soul moving. Too awesome for words. Best way to see it.

The flight was amazing! Jeremy was such a great tour guide and pilot. Unbelievable views and the close ups made you speechless. I would recommend to anyone...I would do it again and again.
