Carl was a great pilot and tour guide! Our ride was smooth and absolutely beautiful. Thank you for helping Kurt pull off his proposal in the air - we'll never forget it!
Great flight around the island with Joffrey, very informative and funny. One suggestion - if people arrive wearing light coloured shorts, ask them to cover up with a dark blanket to avoid the reflection!
We had a great experience with Blue Hawaiian. They are very professional, and offer a great tour. I will definitely fly with them again if I make it back to Hawaii!
We tried three years ago to visit the Big Island to see the lava flow, it was much, much slower in 2015. In fact, by the time we arrived in 2015, the lava had stopped. 2015 - Still, we took the Circle of Fire Tour and saw amazing sights - the caldera, the Pu'u'o'o vent and previous lava flows. We also flew through canyons and over beaches and near too many waterfalls to count. It was spectacular.2018 - A couple weeks ago, I took the Circle of Fire tour with Blue Hawaiian and had an entirely different, and yet a once again spectacular experience. This time we could not go to the caldera or the Pu'u'o'o vent because of the danger - these were now "no fly zones." Our pilot, Esther, did, however, take us right to where the action was. There are 22 fissures that have opened up since May 5, 2018 and the most active is/was fissure 20. We flew over and around fissure 20 several times, I would estimate that we spent about 15 to 20 minutes just over that area. The lava was bright red, orange, yellow, and even white as it spewed forth from fissure 20. We could see steam coming from many of the other fissures as they stood in a row, almost pointing to fissure 20. From fissure 20, a river of lava came forth. It cut a path through the big island in the shape of a huge seven mile (an estimate?) long letter "C" and headed into the ocean. The lava appeared silverish in color from the air and I suspect that is because it cools as it flows downstream and hardens on top while the under current continues to carry it to the ocean. We flew along the 7-mile C and followed it to where the lava poured into the ocean at seven points. Again, an estimate, but I would say that the lava was flowing into the ocean from many places along a strip of land for about a quarter of a mile. Approximately 720 acres had been added to the big island real estate since May 5th, in the form of black lava rock. While spectacular, it was also extremely disheartening to see all of the devastation. Over 500 homes were destroyed leaving number without a home, and now, without land that they could ever return to. This volcanic event brought with it wonder, excitement, and anticipation along with anxiety, ruin, and sadness. Although this was a bucket list item that I was finally able to check off ... I think I will be doing it again. Thanks Esther, and thanks Blue Hawwaiian Helicopters - Hilo, for a memorable experience.
Actually 4.5 stars. Thanks Adi (pilot) for an exhilarating flight. Wonderfully smooth. Adi was extremely informative. Flight time 50 mins. Videos available. Seating is by weight so there is no worrying over attempting to get a good seat...4 have amazing window views, the middle two in the back have a good view. Video of flight available. The only downside was the waterfalls were not impressive sea cliff falls that I was hoping. We saw two falls which were across Hilo bay and easily viewed (And better viewed) by driving to them. Not sure why rainbow falls was avoided as it was more impressive than the two we saw, I'm assuming operational reasons such as minimum flight altitude or something like that. There are two helicopters, eco star and a- star. My trip was eco star and it seemed to have more glass than the a-star.
The pilot was very knowledgeable with the Island and gave positive motivation to others whose first time riders....
Wonderful one hour flight from Princeville airport which incorporates visit to crater, canyons, Napoli coast and Hanalei bay. Whole trip is recorded and available for sale on USB stick for $42 If you book through Expedia travel you also receive either a Blue Hawaiian tee shirt or DVD Recommend highly. Better than Grand Canyon flight
We have been visiting Hawaii for ten days and during this time have participated in a number of excellent excursions. Of all the activities the helicopter tour of Oahu has been the most interesting. To begin with the introduction by the ground staff and the attention to detail was thorough and impressive. Once underway the pilot Chris supplied an excellent, low-key commentary both informative and humorous. It was a wonderfully clear day and we had an excellent overview of the coast and the rugged mountains complete with breathtaking waterfalls and impenetrable rainforest. All in all an unforgettable experience.
We had one of our best moment in Hawaii / Oahu during our flight with Blue Hawaiian helicopters. Our pilot (Loren) was very good and our ride was amazing. It is true that most of Hawaii can only be seen from the sky and what amazing views you get! I would undoubtably recommend to go!
Loved the tour! Our pilot was very imformational and the helicopter ride was smooth. Would definitely recommend as a must.
The whole thing was perfect beginning to end. The tour guides are all very knowledgeable. The route is great so scenic and peaceful! Landing on the volcano and having champagne was the best part!
As always, Blue Hawaiian out did themselves. Check-in was friendly and easy and Capt. Rick was super knowledgeable and accommodating. This tour is call the Hana SkyTrek and it had us flying with Blue Hawaiian out to the Hana airport where we met up with our Temptation Tours luxury van driver Tony. It was an indescribable start to the day as Capt. Rick showed us all around Haleakalā, waterfalls, and rainforests. If that wasn’t enough, Tony with Temptation Tours answered all questions we could come up with for him (and there were plenty) and showed us incredible/special places all the way back to the heliport as he navigated the Hana Hwy like a pro! If you want adventure, funny/friendly guides, and an experience of a lifetime. This SkyTrek is for you. Mahalo nui loa !!
Great and smooth flight with wonderful views of the volcano and the waterfalls. Even the rain in the north was lucky on us as it produced nice rainbows. We took the early morning (7 am) flight, getting up early seems to be a good option to be on the safer side with the weather.
Fantastic flight with a great pilot. What an amazing experience!
What an amazing experience for my family and I. The highlight of our vacation. Amazing views, and Greg was full of information.
