What a great way to see the Island! We did the Hidden Oahu Flight (Doors on) and the sites that we were shown were unbelievable! Unfortunately I can not seem to remember our pilots name (It might have been Margo), but she was very informative and funny. I would highly recommend doing a helicopter tour through Makani Kai Helicopters. We booked through Hawaii Discount and everything was just perfect! Hopefully one day I can make it back to do the Doors Off tour.

I am a very hard person to impress. I've done a lot of things including jumping out planes. I've also been on helicopters before. But I've never been on a helicopter that didn't have the doors on it. I loved it. You can get great pictures and videos. However, you have to have a strap around your neck or wrist because it is so windy up there. You will lose your camera phone if you don't. I am disappointed because I wasn't prepared with a camera and all I had was my iPhone. They have clear cell phone bags that you can buy for around $5.00. That has the strap around your neck that keeps your phone in the bag. It was great otherwise I wouldn't have anything. But the windy air gets in the bag,so the photos are a little rippled. And the companies logo is on the cell phone bag,so it was even harder for me to see what the hell I was shooting at up there.(That's how windy it gets.)So if you have a camera that has a wrist strap definitely take that instead of the phone.The phone is annoying. Also, dress warm. I brought clothes in a bag with me and changed in the bathroom when we got there. I had layers on. I wore sweatpants over my yoga pants & a sweatshirt & golf jacket. Jim was our pilot 👩‍✈️& he was a perfect ten as far as his piloting skills, knowledge of the island, and personality. All of the guys working there were all professional. Even the driver that picked us up who normally doesn't drive. His name was Pete. He had the Aloha spirit too. The company even helps people in wheelchairs get in the helicopters. They are amazing. I really can't say enough about them. This was the highlight of my entire trip. And after living in Hawaii before,I've done a lot of fun & adventurous stuff. I'll tell all my friends this is a must do when in Honolulu. P.S.Theres also helicopters with the doors on. Aloha! Diana

We booked this thru Molokai Outdoors. It included a 7 minute ride from Tiny Molokai airport in a 6 passenger plane, bus tour of Kalaupapa and a 4 minute return flight. It was stormy weather, the ride bumpy,the female pilot was professional on her first Kalaupapa landing, an instructor beside her. The landscape and water are stunning. Norman was our engaging and excellent bus driver, giving us a meaningful tour of this very spiritual place. Like the writer above, we met the mule riders and hikers who joined us in the bus. The turkey, cheese sandwich was as above. A huge rainstorm overshadowed our lovely tour, but it was still fantastic. We met a nun at the bookstore who told us an excellent story along with Norman. You can only visit this former leper colony with permission, it's part of the National Park Service, there are some former patients living there, but they are out of view, you can only get there by mule, hiking or tiny plane. We got a break in the storm in order to make our flight back to topside Molokai, 4 minutes. Off the beaten path, rare, amazing, memorable!

Arranging this helicopter tour of Oahu was the highight of our holdiay. Doing it two days after arrival allowed us to work out where we wanted to visit later. Pilot Jim made the trip fun, educational and enjoyable from the moment we boarded the aircraft, not only is he extremely knowledgable and funny but also a very safe and professional pilot. The priviledge of seeing Oahu from above was one that I will treasure for many years and one that I certainly recommend. While there are other tour companies I found Makani Kai professional, caring, safe and friendly. From the moment they picked us up at the hotel in their free shuttle bus until they returned us to the same spot we were made to feel valued. At no stage were we inconvenienced or made to feel unwelcome. Looking forward to receiving my DVD of the tour in the mail soon. HIghly recommended

What a great time. We went on the 45 minute (doors on) flight with Evan as our pilot. My group consisted of my wife and I and our 72 and 83 year old mothers. We all had a great time. From the time we booked this excursion to the time we were returned to the hotel, the staff of Makani Kai Helicopters was polite, professional and courteous. Evan did a great job pointing out everything with knowledge and some humor. When in the sky you get to see Oahu from an advantage point that is amazing. The perspective of the Oahu Island from the air is breath taking well worth the time and money

We had an excellent experience with Makani Kai! Our pilot Margo was great! Anyone considering a helicopter tour needs to do "doors-off" for the full adventure! This is a MUST-do for any 1st timer to Oahu!!

My wife & I booked a helicopter flight as part of our Princess Cruise. These guys were great! They went out of their way to work with our schedule, picking us up at the ship terminal and dropping us back there afterwards. All of the staff we met there were both very personable and professional. The day were at Oahu was cloudy and a little rainy. We were concerned that our tour would be cancelled, but our pilot, Margot, assured us we'd be okay and took us up anyway. We were glad we booked a closed door helicopter. Despite the weather, Margot took us all over the island, pointing out landmarks, giving us a lot of island history, and doing it all with a smile. We loved her sense of humor all along the way. Margot made our tour awesome! If you've ever wanted to take a helicopter tour in Hawaii, I highly recommend Makani Kai Helicopters!!!

Our first time on helicopter, such an amazing experience, the view is unbelievably beautiful, the pilot and the staff were so nice and friendly!

This open door flight is the only way to go, an adrenaline rush. Our pilot Evan was great, a great way to see the island.

My family and I have been on a helicopter tour almost every time when visiting the Hawaiian Islands, and going with Makani Kai would absolutely have to have been the best one so far! Our pilot, (I cannot recall his name), would have to have been one of the most knowledgeable people i all of Oahu short of a Hawaiian native. No questions asked by any of the passengers was too hard or un-answerable. The rest of the staff were also amazing, friendly and helpful. Without a doubt, the best way to see the Island of Oahu, no questions asked.

We love helicopter tours and booked the Makani Kai trip at our hotel. Their shuttle picked us and returned us to our hotel. We opted for the smaller, doors off tour. It was a tremendous experience. We had to pay a little extra for the front seats but I think the back seats would have been fine too. Our pilot, Jim, was quite a character and really made the tour special with his sense of humor, and of course, his expertise in piloting the helicopter. We highly recommend this helicopter experience and especially the doors off option. You will not be disappointed!

Aerial views allow for a greater appreciation of things. Combine that with the beauty of Oahu and you create memories that will last a lifetime. Makani Kai took it a step further with their helpful staff, hotel shuttle, and an amazing pilot in Eric. I do recommend that you read the fine print and double check your reservation before booking. Most bad reviews I've read were correlated to misunderstandings with booking procedures and policies. There's also a strict policy on objects that can be brought on flight so make sure you have proper wrist and neck straps for your phones or cameras. The tighter the strap the better. If you don't, you can buy on for $5 which works but not ideal for die hard photographers. Btw the doors off tour is worth every penny.

I was gifted the helicopter tour as a surprise for my birthday. It was booked for our very first day in Oahu just after arriving at the airport and it was the perfect way to start our holiday! My partner and I did the tour together and it was breathtaking. Incredible bird's eye views of the island from gorgeous beaches to the mountains and north shore. The pilot really makes the experience worthwhile as they provide running commentary throughout the 45 minute tour. We paid extra to have the seats upfront and it was certainly worth it. We had beautiful views the entire time! Highly recommend this trip, especially for first timers to Oahu as it gives you an excellent idea of places and things to do while you visit.

Me and the wife loved the helicopter tour with our pilot Jim aka Murdoch! You get to see all of Oahu from the skies and places where they filmed Jurassic Park etc.

Thanks to driver Mycah for pick up and intro to tour to the airport and for helping us prepare for flight. Our pilot Evan is the man! What a great experience to see 45mins of beautiful Oahu today by helicopter and to learn more about the island that we didn't get a chance to see while on holidays here. It rained but no damper to tour. It was great to see The Dole Plantation, Jurassic valley and even a waterfall - perfect way to end our awesome holiday! Mahalo Makani Kai Helicopters!
