If you love thrill rides, then this one is definitely for you! You get a fabulous scenic tour added to the most exciting ride ever - it is probably one of the best and most exciting experiences I have ever had. However, it isn't for everyone as you are in a small helicopter (like the one from Magnum PI) with no doors between you and the ground below and only a harness to hold you in - there were four of us and only three of us enjoyed it - the other one was totally traumatised! However, if you like an adrenaline rush, then go for this one - the pilot threw the helicopter round the skies at amazing speeds , dropping out of the sky into valleys and towards the sea - our views were amazing, including seeing a pod of dolphins just below us. It cost us about £160 each but it was worth every penny - I would so love to do it again! Thank you, Makani Kai - you made my holiday and honeymoon as we also got married whilst in Oahu!

I was really looking forward to my doors off helicopter tour of Oahu last week while on a short visit to Honolulu. The copter is really nice and the pilot, Jim, was very entertaining, informative and competent. Unfortunately I ended up in the seat directly behind the pilot and so for a good part of the flight I was facing the island side without the ocean views that I would have found more appealing as a photographer. If you take this tour and you want photos, ask for a right hand seat.

Margot was our pilot and we had a wonderful trip, Margot made us feel very comfortable and explained all that we were looking at . It was a wonderful experience and I will highly recommend it to anyone who asks me or I hear is going to Honolulu.

We wanted to do a helicopter tour on our Honeymoon to get a better idea of the island early on from arriving as had never been. My now wife had previously not had a good experience with a flight in Vegas where she got very hot and sick. As such I wanted to ensure that any flight had as much fresh/cool air as possible. A quick TA search found these guys with a doors off flight, not only that but it was the the heli from Magnum PI!! A childhood favourite TV program of mine. I emailed well on advance of the Honeymoon to ensure we got the best possible experience. The team were great with all the advice and a trip was booked. Everything on the day went very smoothly. Pick up from the hotel was on time. Safety briefing was given on the mini-bus prior to the arrival. The pilot played up to the theme by modelling himself on Tom Selleck. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and good fun. The flight was fantastic, very exhilarating and a great way to see Oahu and the BEST way to see Pearl Harbour and the Arizona. An amazing experience!! Would definitely do it again!

We did the 45 minute Hidden Oahi tour, no doors off, and 6 passengers plus the pilot. We were interested in the 1 hour Ali'i Sacred Falls but I didn't book early enough and all the slots were taken for the days we wanted to go on tour. Book early and online to get the tour you want and also the discount - $35 per person we would have saved. They picked us up in front of our hotel and it was a short ride to the area of the airport. This is one of the best ways to see the island! The left side of helicopter in my opinion allows for the best views as the helicopter flew counter clock wise on the island. Margot was our pilot, She was great. She was very knowledgeable about all the sites we were seeing and was entertaining. She remembered all of our names and made each of our experiences personal. One of the reasons why I chose Makani Kai over the others is that they show the flight path for each tour. As someone who is not familiar with the island, trying to decipher one tour and land mark from the other was difficult.

We were due to be picked up at 11:00 and they were bang on time. A couple more pick ups and we were on our way. Upon arrival of the airport we were quickly sorted out and shown aboard the helicopter. Our pilot was great and very knowledgeable about the island, it's history and apart from talking to atc we had a running commentary throughout. The flight was great and we were shown lots of great places and we did lots of gentle 360 degree turns so all aboard could see the views and get pictures. You can't take anything apart from a camera on the helicopter but there are lockers available to use when you arrive. These cost 4 - 1/4's. I did not see any mention of this on the website but they promptly answered my email question and I thought it was worth mentioning for others. Great trip - Thanks! !

I am not a great flyer. However, my husband wanted to do the doors off tour and I decided this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So I went. I am so glad we did. Our pilot was fantastic. I was not scared a bit. Smoothest flight ever. From what my husband told me, he researched all of the helicopter tours in the area and these guys have a clean safety record. If you are on Oahu you need to book a tour with these guys.

What an exhilarating RUSH! This was truly an experience of a lifetime!! We were able to see the whole Island of Oahu in just 50 minutes and covered all different types of terrain, from beautiful coastlines & beaches, lush tropical valleys, stunning waterfalls and historical landmarks in Pearl Harbor. With the doors off you are "flying high" on adrenaline!! The colors you are seeing are so much more vibrant because you don't have any glass to look through. We even saw a full circle rainbow below us when we passed through some light rain showers. Our Pilot, Margo was AWESOME! Her expertise and light humored narration made a lasting impression on us. The whole experience from the ground crew to the actual flight was amazing and we didn't want it to end!

It was everything and more. I got picked up right on time from Hotel and nice 20 minute ride to the Choppers. All staff were friendly and very professional. Flight was awesome and Pilot knew what she was doing. I received free upgrade from 30 min to 45 min flight. Will do again.

We did the doors off tour of Ohau and it was one of the best experiences! I would highly recommend doing this! Margo was wonderful

This was my first time on a helicopter and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pilot was very knowledgeable of Hawaii and its history. I was very comfortable and would recommend any helicopter tour with this company, especially for first-time riders and vets alike.

Was my first time on a helicopter. The pilot was the narrator and ours, Jim, rarely took a break in talking. Maybe a little more peace and quiet would have been enjoyed but he surely has a ton of information to impart. All of the staff, from ground crew to pilots, van drivers, assistants, just everyone has the Aloha spirit. Felt like I was a welcome visitor, not just a paying customer. Only negative, which I think everyone would agree on, is the amount of space inside helicopter. You really feel cramped the whole time. Also someone should take some time to be sure the headphones fit properly - mine did not and didn't have room to take off and find out what to do to make them fit better. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR A HELICOPTER RIDE.

Our helicopter tour with pilot Jim was the highlight of our trip to Oahu! Jim really made the trip. Besides making me feel secure, I'm a bit afraid of heights, he had so many good stories and interesting information to tell. We did the doors-off tour and got lucky enough to sit upfront first-class. In 50 minutes plus we saw the whole island, even got some action with a forrest fire. Pick-up at hotel seamless. I absolutely recommend this tour, it's worth every penny.

The team at Makani Kai were absolutely brilliant!!! Every staff member we dealt with was so friendly and helpful. Our pilot for the adventure was AMAZING lady named Margot. Not only was she hands down the best helicopter pilot I've ever experienced (the whole flight was so smooth and her take off and landings were flawless!), but she was also a fantastic tour guide. Her narration as we flew around Oahu was informative but also funny. She engaged with with every single passenger on a personal level, so we all felt so safe and were able to just sit back and enjoy the ride. After the flight was finished, she also happily stood and had photos taken with passengers inside on the terminal in her own time! I I would without a doubt highly recommend both Margot and Makani Kai Helicopters to everyone I know. (p.s. the upgrade to front seat passenger is a MUST do!!!)

Totally amazing!!! Pilot Jim is the best and made the flight so entertaining along with providing a step by step funny and very entertaining commentary of what we seeing and information about it as well as ensuring we knew why the helicopter was doing what it did E.G wind, other air craft dropping jeeps from the sky etc hehe, (True story) Highly recommended.
