Helicopter ride was amazing. Not just because of what we saw, but because of how we were treated. First class all the way. We were treated like adults and not kids. We had 7 people with two different flights. Coordination was easy. Employees very personal, pilots were top notch. A must if you visit Hawaii.

We did the open doors trip with Doug who is a Medi evac pilot. He was great, the flight was smooth and the weather awesome. Doug was really knowledgeable and kept everyone on the flight involved and informed of what was going on and where to look etc. This sort of adventure is best done early on in your vacation I feel as it gives you a better idea of what to go and see on land afterwards when in Oahu Hawaii. The complimentary shuttle bus is great as well if your staying in town and overall the experience we had was excellent. If your keen to take photos, I would suggest a wide angle lens to capture it all. Just amazing!

My husband and I took the 45 minute ride on our recent honeymoon. It was absolutely breathtaking and was the best way to see the island. I would recommend doing this early on in your trip to Oahu so you can see the areas of the island you would like to visit during your stay. The staff at Makani Kai were great - we felt like we were in very safe and experienced hands. We didn't purchase the video of our flight although I am now wishing we had - we took plenty of photos but the pilots narration was great! Although the flight was expensive, it was well worth it and was definitely the highlight of our visit to Oahu.

What a fantastic well organised trip this was. Booking was easy on line and confirmation issued. We were picked up near the port where our cruise ship was and taken to an airfield. On the way a safety video was shown in the airconditioned vehicle. We were in the doorless helicopter with another two people and we had a trip of about 55 minutes around the island and it was spectacular. Our pilot gave us commentary all the way showing different highlights including Pearl Harbour. Do it! Take advice to wear a jacket because although it was 30 degrees down on the land, it was freezing up in the air. Exhilarating!

Booked a flight with this company and it was like going with your family members. The whole staff were very accommodating. The pilot Jim was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable of the island history and absolutely hilarious to listen to. Would highly recommend this company. We had a wonderful time

An absolutely amazing experience! So much fun and Jim is a great pilot. We were a bit nervous going into it, but could tell Jim knew exactly what he was doing and made everyone feel comfortable. It was also very entertaining - lots of laughing! A great tour with breath taking views and really great memories. Looking back, we would have gladly paid more for the exact same experience!! VERY highly recommended for everyone!

Was all of our's first time in a Helicopter. Some were a bit nervous but , Jim was great at helping them forget about the nerves and injoy the flight and the scenery. Was worth every cent I'll be back for another trip with Jim. Thanks so much. Steve Sears

Viatour and Makani Kai Helicopters made this trip to Kalaupapa Moloka'i, a reality. All guests must be escorted when they visit Kalaupapa, so Viatour and Makani Kai handle all the details and one just enjoys the trip. The staff was friendly and made the trip fun. Makani Kai picks you up and brings you to the airport where you are flown over across the strait to the small airport at Kalaupapa. The trip takes about 45 minutes and we rode in a small 12-passenger Piper. Since there is no food service on the Kalaupapa side of the island, you are furnished with a box lunch, which was quite adequate. There are public restrooms available at the airport and again at the lunch stop. This will be a six land hour tour so plan for the day. Think about a hat and sunscreen and water, too. children must age 16 to visit Kalaupapa. I really enjoyed this trip and it was a great way to see lovely Moloka'i.

I flew in the Magnum PI Helicopter with Pilot Jim....most adventurous way to see beautiful Oahu from the sky! Pilot Jim was entertaining and informative in his narration of the flight. If you want to do a helicopter tour, this is the most exciting one and you get the best photos with no doors in the way of your view. I highly recommend!

Our pilot made everyone so comfortable you forget the danger. With every move he explained before he maneuvered Jim O’Donohue is an excellent pilot and love what he does. I believe he was born to fly. He and Val (sorry I forgot his last name) work to ether well. I can't wait to see the video. Mahalo Veronica

First ever helicopter flight and it was absolutely fantastic. Pilot very knowledgeable and took us on a wonderful 45 minute tour over Oahu. It was awesome to see the sights from the air two days before we took to the road to see the same. Would recommend this tour as a must do. Combined package with the Sunset Dinner cruise well worth it.

Highly recommend taking a flight with Jim (Magnum PI) at Makani Kai Helicopters. His knowledge and flight skills make a very enjoyable 1 hour round trip of Oahu.

I was a little hesitant when my husband wanted to book the open-door helicopter flight over Oahu (I would have been happier in a normal helicopter given my slight fear of heights and flying) but I am so pleased we book the open-door tour. We selected the preferred seating which meant we got to sit in the front and it was just incredible! I felt nervous for most of the flight but the pilot was very calm and seemed in total control the whole time which made me relax and enjoy the ride. Being our 3rd trip to Hawaii it was great to see the island from a different perspective and we would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a once in a lifetime experience. Don't forget your jacket though - it gets very cold and windy up there!

I highly recommend the 40 minute flight around Oahu. Having never been in a helicopter before, I found it fun and exhilarating , with stunning views of the island, giving a close up and unique perspective of the mountains, coastline, and Pearl Harbour, amongst others. Our pilot was great, giving an informative and interesting commentary throughout.

So the open door helicopter ride was an obvious pick. I love the feel of there being nothing between me and the ground. Also a reminder of the movies of the boys in the Hueys in the Vietnam war! Respect! I thought it might be a little cold as well, so did at least wear a sweater, but it was really quite cold, and the wind was coming in under my hater blockers! Anyway the scenery was fabulous, we saw about half of the whole island, I really enjoyed the sweep through the jungle gorge and then cresting the ridge at almost zero height above the trees. Great piloting, worth every cent! So much to see form the air. Do this - you will not regret it! And I don't even like helicopters, spent too long in them earlier in my career! Enjoy the buzz!
