My partner and I chose Blue Hawaiian for our helicopter tour of Kauai on our recent trip to the garden island. •We chose Blue Hawaiian based on reputation and the type of helicopter we flew in. As a photographer, I was tempted to go with another company which lets you ride doors off. However, at the end of the day I was glad I did not because the weather was not great during the time we flew (rainy and windy). •Every flight experience will be different based on weather, flight conditions, time of day / year, etc. All I can really do in this review is give you advice based on our flight experience. So here it goes. •Arrive at the time they suggest (or even before). The check-in process is pretty quick and efficient and they group you on your flight pretty quickly and then you are off to a training video and they start prepping you for your flight. It was crowded and loud at the facility when we were there. Pay attention and listen for your tour as we missed our original call for the tour and therefore we almost missed the boarding process for our flight because we were not in the right spot at the right time. •Wear dark clothes. Black if possible. Taking photos from inside the helicopter generally is going to result in photos with reflections of some sort. You can minimize this by wearing dark color clothing. It is worth noting, that even if you are not concerned about taking photos (or having photos with reflections in them), I would suggest wearing dark clothing still for out of consideration for the others on your flight. •You cannot pick your seat on the helicopter. It is assigned by load / weight. You really don’t have any control on this, so there is not use worrying about it / arguing over it at the counter. Sure, the seats along the windows are going to offer the best views, but I don’t think there is a bad seat on the helicopter. You should be able to see from any seat. •You also cannot control the weather (or predict it for that matter). Along our single 50ish minute flight the weather ranged dramatically depending where we were on the island – from clear and sunny to cloudy and raining (and everything in between). Just remember, every flight is unique and offers something different. •We ended up being the last flight for the day (the remainder were cancelled due to bad weather). So we did luck out with our timing and it would have stunk if our flight was cancelled. But, that really is out of your control and you cannot be mad at Blue Hawaiian for cancelling due to weather conditions. Safety should be their priority. So now it makes sense why people say schedule early on your trip (in case you have to reschedule). I would try and do that if possible. •The helicopter itself was nice / in good condition, the flight was pretty smooth and the pilot was super friendly and interacted with each person on the tour. What you see on the flight does not need much description / explanation – nor could words do it justice. See the pictures and you will know what you are in for. It’s a super cool experience that will show you the many different sides of the island from above. The inclement weather prevented us from flying into the inactive volcano at the end of the tour (we knew this was a possibility), but everything else was as described / advertised on their website. So based on our specific experience, we would recommend Blue Hawaiian to anyone considering them for an aerial tour of the island. The sights were amazing (duh) and the whole experience was pretty seamless from start to finish. It seems like they really know what they are doing and are running a pretty well-oiled machine there in Lihue.
We travelled during the Thanksgiving break... and it was fairly decent weather. Cloudy but could get a lot of the views.. I did not have the best seats on the copter due to which i could not take good pics and also the pilot did not take any additional effort for all to enjoy the views , I was not able to see the Jurassic falls since we do not turn around that spot... Overall i gave 3 stars since they take you to all the locations they advertise.. and the visibility and the overall views depends on the day and the weather. THe coastline is definitely gorgeous and worth the ride!
My family and I took a 9 am flight on the first day or our trip. It was the highlight of our stay! Our pilot was Shay (Shea) and he was awesome. I was a little nervous, never being on a helicopter, but Shay immediately put us at ease and it was the smoothest flight, baring noticing when we took off and landed. He was very knowledgeable about the island and gave us great ideas for day trips. Would highly recommend!
My husband and I did a tour on our first full day in Hawaii. We had a beautiful day although it was on the windy side. We were impressed with our pilot's (Scott H) knowledge of the island and how well he could answer our questions. He gave some suggestions of places we should check out for hiking and nice beaches. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I felt safe the entire time. I definitely recommend Blue Hawaiian to everyone looking for an informative helicopter tour!
Even though helicopters and I don't see eye to eye (on the count of my fear of heights) this was a great trip. The island is just stunning and it's wonderful to see all the places from a completely different view and beaches, waterfalls and parts that you can only see from a helicopter. Definitely worthwhile.
We picked this particular operator based on the description of the helicopters. We were lucky to have a clear blue sky and an excellent pilot. The ground team were very friendly yet professional and the ride was very comfortable. Our pilot was very knowledgeable and engaged everyone on the plane. We got to see parts of the island that we would never have had the chance to see it were not for the excursion. it was one of the highlights of our trip.
This was a fantastic, awe inspiring experience. The island is truly stunning and it is impossible to see the true beauty of it without touring it by helicopter. Our pilot Brian, while being an excellent pilot was also a brilliant tour guide. I would highly encourage anyone travelling to the islands to take advantage of this tour.
My family and I have been coming to Kauai for over 10 years and finally took a helicopter trip. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD. First, I am terrified of small spaces and get very motion sick- so I almost didn't go. But I am so glad I did. The helicopter is actually pretty spacious and they have air vents, which helped with fresh air inside. Barrett (sp?) our pilot was a born on Kauai (which I LOVED), made me feel so safe and comfortable and made me feel like this was this was most important tour (even though he has done a million). But most of all, seeing Kauai from the air in nothing short of magical. Kauai is one of the most beautiful diverse places on earth and so much of it is untouched- and seeing it from above is breath taking. It is true that some pictures did have glare, but 90% of mine came out perfect. Wear black!! For a first time helicopter rider I was happy to have the doors one, so a few bad pictures were totally fine. Just go. You will be in awe.
How cool for our family (adult children) to have Beth be our pilot on an amazing helicopter tour, a tour in which we learned so much about the geology, current events, and entertainment factors of this island! This is a professionally-run operation. Seeing it from the air helped us to organize our travels throughout the rest of our trip. And having a female pilot was the icing on the cake!
We didn't intend to do a helicopter tour, but we couldn't resist doing it once we realized how extensive it would be. Tony was our pilot and he was extremely knowledgable and answered all our questions. We were so fascinated with his wealth of information! The sites were something out of a travel brochure, they were that spectacular. We got bunches of pictures and even bought the commemorative video. The trip was worth every penny we paid for it.
We have been talking about doing this for years, but my mom has always found some reason no to, this time we just booked and she had no choice! And boy is she glad we did!!! This was the most amazing way to see the island! Our pilot Scott H. was the best, actually all the staff was. My mom was SUPER nervous but they all made her feel calm and taken care of! There is some amazing views to be seen. Some tips..... definitely wear dark clothing, that's a must so you don't end up taking pictures of your reflection. Don't be afraid to ask questions while in flight the pilots are very knowledgeable. All in all this was a GREAT experience and we would totally do it again!!!
This helicopter tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii. It was a great way to see Kauai and Marty was a great pilot/tour guide. I highly recommend taking a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour. It's an even better experience if you can get the front two seats. It can't hurt to request.
We had an awesome tour with this company, and will never forget it. Our tour was rescheduled once due to poor weather, and we really appreciated that this company takes safety seriously. Our pilot was engaging and informative. We would absolutely do it again!
I was there on one of the lucky days--clear weather everywhere with no clouds around the summit. Hence, in addition to the "normal" amazing scenery, we got to fly right inside the caldera of the volcano--a truly awesome experience. Our pilot (I think he was Bryce--but I'm notoriously bad with names) was very knowledgeable and entertaining. All-in-all a once-in-a-lifetime experience well worth the time and expense.
