I'll split the review into 2 parts as the title represents two different experiences. First is in regards to scheduling. For those who are planning trips and excursions during their time at Kauai, you typically will need to plan a fair amount ahead of time as these fill up fairly quickly. So we booked our helicopter tour about 2 months prior to our trip. As a family of 4, I booked 2 standard tickets plus upgrade 2 tickets to a guaranteed front row seat. . Our tour was for 11:15am on a Thursday morning so it was disappointing to say the least to receive a call the EVENING before indicating that our guaranteed front row seats were not guaranteed as someone had "booked" it a few days before us. Needless to say, I was not happy, not necessarily with that information, but more so that they had 2 months to work it out and notify us prior to this and perhaps we could reschedule. When I asked for potential rescheduling, the only potential option was another day on our trip at 8am. They also want you there an hour before so that would mean that we would have to be at the airport at 7am, which I didn't feel was reasonable. Otherwise, they simply said they were booked for the remainder of our stay and they could refund our money. We ended up keeping our original reservation because our boys were very excited about doing it and had been talking about it for weeks. After arriving, I could figure out some bad luck played into this as well as they actually had THREE helicopters at the same time so basically we got shut out of three opportunities at the guaranteed front seat. Ok, my mini rant is over, now on to the experience. We checked in an hour prior and interestingly enough, we found out the 2 folks that took our front seats actually had the time wrong so we thought, maybe we have a chance? Ultimately they did arrive on time and it was difficult to hold any grudge because they were on Kauai for their 30th Wedding anniversary. I feel that there is a certain amount of "Hawaiian" time built into the hour prior because we waited around for 20-25 minutes and then watched the safety video. My wife actually had a lot of fun during this video because it turns out that one of the ground crew (Ashley) saw that she had a BTS (k-pop band) related keychain and that she was also ARMY. I assume whomever is also a fan knows what I am talking about because I'm not even sure I get what I'm referencing to. Also, in case anyone thought of bringing a GoPro, you can bring the GoPro itself but can't being and selfie stick type accessories. After the safety video, they gave us our life jackets, which we strapped around our waists and we went outside to the waiting area. It was a bit of a thrill to watch the helicopters come in and land as the previous group disembarked. After a few minutes, while the helicopter was being refueled, our pilot, Greg, came over and introduced himself. We then walked out to board the helicopter and the configuration of seats was 2 in the front and 4 in the rear with the 4 in the rear was slightly elevated to provide a better view. As a family of 4, we had the 4 rear seats and 2 of us boarded first, got strapped in and their headphones on, followed by the other 2. This was the first time anyone in our family had been on a helicopter and it was pretty thrilling to hear the sound of the rotors gradually speed up and then we took off! As the helicopters are located right next to the airport, it was interesting to fly right about Lihue airport and then to begin our counter clockwise trek around the island. Greg was also very engaging and very quickly, again to the thrill of my wife, apparently he also was well versed in being part of ARMY, as his wife was a big fan. So there were a few exchanges that basically no one in the helicopter understood besides the two of them. Greg provided some great insights, both to the agriculture and history of Kauai as well as point out and recreating where movies had been shot and the flight path if applicable. We started off on the West side of the island and flew above many of the mountains and got a great view of Waimea Canyon. Then we moved to the Na Pali Coast area where we also got some gorgeous views of many waterfalls that we could see would take some hiking to get there, but would be a great payoff if you were to go. On to the North Shore, with some fantastic coastal views before heading past Hanalei Bay and Princeville. Hanalei Bay was great because we had planned to drive up there a couple of days later and jump off the pier, which looked absurdly small from the helicopter but normal sized when we did the jumping. We finished it off by flying into the caldera that originally created Kauai but was long since dormant. We headed back and safely landed back on the pad. A couple of thoughts in conclusion. The experience itself was very thrilling. Getting a birds eye view like that definitely gives a different perspective and we enjoyed every minute. Well, the others in my family enjoyed every minute. I suffer for getting motion sickness and even though I had the prescription patch, I got hit with some of it about halfway through. In hindsight, I applied the patch the morning of but I probably should have done it the night before. Greg was engaging and entertaining and my wife still mentions her conversations with Ashley to this day. It is a bit expensive, especially for a family of four, but I felt the experience was well worth it for the reasons mentioned above. There was also another reason as we were either going to do this or a Na Pali cruise but the fact that we would have had to take nearly the whole day for the boat cruise made it an easy decision. What a fantastic way to experience the island! My fiancée and I had the best experience with them. She was actually my girlfriend then and I proposed at the landing zone half way through the trip! Our pilot Marco was great and showed us so much of the island that it's really the only way to experience Maui. One minute we're in a rainforest like environment and the next we're flying over a beach and then the next we're flying over volcanic rock. Can't wait to go back and when we do we'll definitely have to charter with Blue Hawaiian again. Mahalo!
Was definitely the best adventure I have had while in Hawaii. It was everything and more than expected. Really enjoyed landing at beautiful waterfall. Would definitely say go. The pilot very informative, professional, easy going and just great. Best way to see the island.
How is this not a 10 star!? Just amazing and worth while. Such an awe expiring experience. Truly moves you in a way you never thought possible. Hands down the most memorable experience of my life!!
Had an outstanding trip yesterday with my son. Toshi was great. He was very helpful and friendly. He took the time to engage with everyone. Truly an asset to the team. He even talked with my younger son who chose not to fly. I could see that he truly enjoys his work and providing exceptional customer service.
This was the spectacular! Such an amazing way to see how the volcanic activity has shaped the land on Big Island. Our pilot Ethan was so knowledgeable. We learnt heaps!
I have flown with other less expensive companies and, like most times, you get exactly what you pay for! Their Eco-Star machines were specifically designed for touring, very high visibility, very smooth & stable in wind, and super comfy. The pilots have all been very personable and knowledgeable thru the provided hand held mic that allows for questions or commentary from anyone on board.👍Gotta add that each pilot choreographed their own music for the flight. Never been disappointed.. We also flew Blue Hawaiian on big island with the waterfall landing. No matter what it takes...DO THIS FLIGHT! And trust me here...Spring for the front seats. It's a bit more...but most definitely the best money spent for the experience. And one more thing...wear a black long sleeve shirt so your reflection doesn't mess up the viewing for the other people.
Esperienza pazzesca, avevo grandi aspettative e sono state largamente superate! Non è un’attività economica ma vale ogni centesimo speso, la vista di Kauai dall’alto è semplicemente mozzafiato, mi sono commossa tantissimo e di sicuro sono immagini che non dimenticherò mai
Absolutely fabulous! The staff when we arrived were very helpful and friendly. Toshi , our pilot, was so informative and made sure everyone could see all the attractions. He explained everything very thoroughly-- made sure everyone was comfortable- just a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Highly recommend !!!
If there is one thing you need to do in Kauai, you need to take a helicopter tour of the island and you need to go with this company. The check in was easy and their helicopters are really spacious and comfortable. Our pilot Aleo gave us an amazing description of the entire island and was really experienced navigating the helicopter. Really recommend this excursion.
This company has the larger cockpit of any other service which means in turn best air conditioning! Awesome pilot awesome music great historical and current facts of the lay of the land. Just do it!
Breathtaking! This helicopter tour was something out of a movie. Beautiful way to see the island of Maui and hear more about the ‘aina’ and it’s climate. The staff were exceptional. We had a little delay because the AC wasn’t working in our chopper took them 15min but they comped us photos and video from our experience. Definitely worth every penny. Highly recommend this company and this adventure.
This was truly spectacular! I don't have the words to describe this experience. Worth every penny! Major shout out to Greg our pilot who made this experience that much better. He was kind, knowledgeable, and very warm hearted. He took extra time and care making sure my mom was comfortable on her first helicopter tour. Greg was a 5 star pilot! The crew from start to end was terrific!
The landing up on the mountain was absolutely breathtaking. Our pilot Matt was fantastic, and I’d definitely recommend asking for him.
Our pilot Shane was warm, professional and very knowledgeable. He welcomed questions. The ground crew was top notch as well. One of our party needed a little extra help boarding and both Shane and the ground crew were respectful and helpful. The flight was spectacular, just as advertised. A lifetime memory. Nothing at fault at all. A+
